When playing EAW, I really hate those things. Usually flying units can just win the match easily but those things just have to ruin your day. Even worse when those things are defending landing points. Good thing the ai didn't spam this unit.

Long ago, Steve Jackson Games had a mini-game called Ogre which headlined a gigantic tank against a host of various tanks, artillery and infantry. The Ogre would usually be destroyed by the end of the game but maybe only one or two opposing pieces would be left.

Very interesting. Explains why the XR85 is so damn hard to kill in Thrawn's Revenge. I mean, I've resorted to not using any armour against it at all because even several T-4B heavy tanks are destroyed before it can do any meaningful damage. I've resorted to commando unit spam, because about half a dozen commandoes per platoon have an anti-tank rocket launcher. To me, heavy particle cannon rings Star Trek bells, like Phase Cannons and Phasers. Makes an interesting change from plasma based blaster weapons. Also explains why they do so much damage in TR as well.

The absolute best part about this channel is how eck gets right to the point instead of reading 4min irrelevant back story to try and boost the video length.

Because having a high center of gravity on a little set of tracks... what could possibly go wrong?

Perfect timing. Just saw it in the Empire At War Thrawns Revenge mod

A few points... this would be a decent weapons platform IF it had anti grav control units installed to deal with its massive weight. Some civilian settings aren't outfitted for heavy machines. We found that out in Iraq when an Abrams tank with crew was lost when it fell through the bridge into the euphrates River. It doesn't have an escape hatch underneath so they died from either impact or drowning. The treads are well thought in size, they'd be needed for that much weight and equipment. Hopefully it also carried repulsorlifts to let it hop over structures or be deployed from a star destroyer or carrier without having to land.

I think this looks very intimidating. I would have loved to see it in live action.

There can be an easy in-universe explanation for a lot of the Dark Empire technologies and the lack of their implementation after Palpatine's final death, one which another prominent sci-fi/fantasy/meme universe utilises almost ad absurdum. The knowledge lost. We know Palpatine wasn't known for his generous nature and sharing, don't we? It wouldn't be a far stretch that after Endor, he started hoarding technology and all of his R&D at his new base at Byss. Thus with the loss of Byss, the Imperial Remnant lost most of those technological advancements or access to technologies and resources that would have been necessary for building them, and probably found out that the tech couldn't be even reverse-engineered due to numerous in-built failsafes or complexity of such designs, or because some of the tech might have been tied to some Dark Side shenanigan like Sith Alchemy (after all, living Sith Lords with that particular knowledge were getting excessively rare due to a minor case of death by lightsaber).

With how tall and fast the tank appears to be I can only wonder how it handled sharp high speed turns, and I am wondering if there were mentioned instances where New Republic forces would try to force it into said turns in hope that it would tip over.

The ignoring of things like center of balance, and making a nice, tall target, that's a pretty abysmal design. A late mode BOLO (Keith Laumer) would eat it alive, because it's systems assume it will be hit, and it will take damage. Nothing is indestructible except a black hole, which you could argue is the embodiment of destruction. That's why I like Halo more - Master Chief isn't indestructable, he's just so lucky that he's reset the universe's probability calculator. :)

Dark Empire has the most comic book appropriate vehicles in Star Wars

The height of the vehicle is just ridiculous. It's bulk would also limit armour, particularly for the superstructure. IRL such a massive target would quickly be taken out by anti-armour weapons or attack by air.

Well, I am now thoroughly unnerved by the Dark Empire. As if I already wasn't before...

This thing is so tall with such a high centre of gravity that if it tried to stop from 70kph it would fall forward onto its face. It also so large that the best way of beating it is with Starfighter bombing runs.

Man, Rogue Squadron 64 , the memories of me speeding up to avoid those missipes, the Droid Tanks were also significant smaller in the game. That game separated gamers from broken controllers.

I buy it as a seige/assault weapon for static targets like cities or bases. I wouldn't call it a tank though. Definitely mobile artillery and entirely vulnerable to heavy attacks because of it's mass and high profile. I couldn't help but think a nearby bomb strike might even knock it over.

This makes me believe that the AT-M6 is like a canon version of this monster
