Is there a mathematical formula to always win at casinos? And is there a perfect bet? To answer to these questions, today, we explore the scientific origins of the world's best gambling strategies.
If there is a way to be sure of winning at gambling, then science must have the answer. Skilled gamblers have always applied mathematics to assess the risk in each game based on the mathematical properties of probability, odds of winning, expected value…
But it was only in the sixties that, leveraging Kelly's criterion for optimal betting strategy, Edward Thorp found an elegant way to apply information theory to blackjack. His book, Beat the Dealer, is still one of the cornerstones of gambling today, and has inspired numerous stories, films and legends.

Not impossible to count through 6-8 decks. Though not easy either. Shannon, Kelly, and Thorp were all geniuses!

U can still count cards with 2-3 decks,..... . Untill, the security and manager ask u leave and blacklist u on Blackjack tables for counting... The House never lose...

What would it be the expected value of a random hand for example if they shouffle the deck every hand and every card has equal probability of appearing?

@@GustavoMaldonado42 No, it is not. You can't be arrested or fined for counting cards, but the casinos can kick a card counter out because it's private property.... they don't even hafta have a reason to anyone out

In principal I wouldn’t count cards in a casino because the casino loves to entice you with clever marketing, comps, free this and free that in order to get you to gamble but then if you start winning and beating their asses real good; ….they will then ask you to leave and never come back again and the smiles and friendly behavior will immediately stop. I refuse to support such hypocritical behavior on their part so I won’t participate in it in the first place even knowing that I can win money from them.
