Three great ones Carl, Duane and Raul . Music that is real music, not the lost crap they mostly have in our day. The Mavericks with Raul Malo are the best!.
I'm just sitting in front of my computer and my feet are dancing up a storm. This recording is really off the charts and out of this world. This should be released
Carl Perkins is known as one of the foremost rockabilly singers of all time This song is a classic though not as legendary as its singer ( this is far from Spam ) this music may have been before your time but when it was new it was the most hip music of its time and was considered to be the music that began the Rock n Roll era
Carl Perkins was best known for Blue Suede Shoes, which was one of the most influential rock and roll songs ever, but I wouldn't be surprised to find that more people have covered Matchbox. A great rockabilly standard, and part of the legacy of one of the all time greats. Like Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Lemmy, he found what he was good at and did lots of it really well.
Now thats what I'm talking about, good ole time music, the way its supposed to be. music that goes down through the ages, good listening for all ages! Wonderful, what would life be without Music! Love the Mavericks, keep on playin!
As the GREAT Chuck Berry once said HAIL HAIL ROCK and ROLL. And I say praise the Lord and the late Alan Freed for putting rock and roll, on the air !!!!!!
On this day in 1964 {October 31st} Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart was void of a record by the Beatles... Starting on January 18th, 1964 when "I Want To Hold Your Hand" entered the Top 100 there was at least one Beatle record on the Top 100... During that period the break down was 28 Top 100 hits, with nine Top 10 records and five reaching #1 {The 28th record was a covered version of the Carl Perkins' 1956 record, "Matchbox"}...
What a GREAT SONG!!! Glad that Raul had performed this with Carl!!!! As The Hillbilly Cat was quite a guy.. One Entertainer I NEVER met!! I wished I could have!! But I've met Raul!! If that counts!!!!!!! And the band also!! Anyway This song has such great rhythm..that I wouldn't have any trouble playing my tambourine to this song!! In fact I have already played it to this song & received a standing ovation!!!!!!!! LOVE TO PLAY THIS SONG..Ya! if only Carl could of seen ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /how awesome that would of been!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Daisy MAe
This is rock and roll... found Carl around 56.I was 12.Made me get a guitar and learn how to play...this rocks but i like Carls solo on the 78 Carl Perkins version.
...and this was back in day when bands had "real" musical talent, playing to an audience of adoring fans. A time when you knew instantly who the singer was, because none of these people were "manufactured", they were all individual characters who broke through because of their own unique raw talent.,.. now we got Taylor Swift, justin Beiber, and Katy Perry....Jeez.
A perfect example of Rock and Roll (Rockabilly?) as speeded-up 12-bar blues. Sing the first line, if you got the time. Repeat the first line, if you got the time. Sing the tag line, and make sure it rhymes! (Typing with the beat as I listen to this tune).
I see Carl gets credit for writing this for the Sun label. He borrowed what lyrics he could from Blind Lemon Jefferson. Lemon borrowed the matchbox theme from an earlier recording by Ma Rainey. No telling where Ma got the Matchbox concept, but I bet it goes way back.
