I have an 11.25-11.5 D brannock size. For those of you who are interested, my experience with Wesco Mister Lou sizing is that the Bakers Boots advise of sizing 0.5 down and sizing up in width actually works. My horsehide Mister Lous were an 11E and I’m not sure if I could have gotten the fit better. For John Lofgrens, I was surprised at how wide the “D-width” was. I followed Standard and Strange’s advice of going 0.5 sizes down if you have a D-width foot. The Lofgrens were definitely roomier in the toe box. My feet don’t have a high instep, so it wasn’t very difficult to initially get my feet into the pass-through of the shaft, but over time I actually needed to get inserts. Even though this was a good fix, it still was slightly too roomy in the toe box for my liking and I ended up selling them. I just ordered my first pair of Role Club 1940 last engineers and I am absolutely stoked to get them. Engineer boots can be a long, expensive process of figuring out the minute details of your foot sizing and what engineer boot lasts are going to be perfect for your feet. If you are at all interested in them, DO NOT skip out on figuring out your sizing as best as possible. The Role Club website has a foot sizing diagram that can be very helpful for getting detailed dimensions of your feet to help in your engineer boot journey, but overall the best way to figure out if something is going to work is for you to actually try something on in person. This is especially true of you plan on purchasing a $2000+ boot, which means that it might even be best for you to fly to the shop itself and try them on before actually taking them home

Coming from TFL. Was hoping you would discuss the differences between different types of engineer boots (steel toe moto ones, double stitched PNW ones, super dressy Indonesian and Japanese ones, etc..) a bit more. And in general in what ways and how do engineer boots as a style differs from various other boot styles (for example tanker, cowboy, etc..). Also what you can get in different price brackets. For example as someone living in EU I'd say you have Sendra (Spain) in the 200-300eu bracket, Red WIng (US) in the 300-400eu bracket, Bright Shoemakers (DK, but make by Sendra in Spain) in the 400-500 bracket. After that there's a jump to the ~700-900 bracket where you start getting more stuff from US (Whites, Nicks..), Indonesia and Japan. And of course you can jump to the very high end with some US (Brian, Kreosote) and Japan bootmakers (Clinch,..). Personal grail for me would be a pair of Leather Things Motor engineers from Japan. But cool video nevertheless! Will be looking forward to the next ones, especially the leather jacket one (please discuss your Vanishing Point jacket in detail!).

Thanks for the input! We'll definitely be doing more sessions about Engineer Boots in the future. Both Jimmy and I have new boots on order, so we'll be coming back around again on this topic for sure! Also, yes! I'll be talking about my Vanishing Point jacket. I love that jacket, it's one of my favs!!

I found in Wesco engineers to go down a half size from 12D true in an 11.5 E width. I can wear a 12D in the Mr. Lou but the 11.5E is a better fit. My Lofgren pair and a different Japanese brand just went down to an 11.5D. I cannot wear the regular leather Lofgren engineers (cannot get them on one foot) but a pair in shinki horsehide fit fine.

It’s time we as me started talking cool fashion. It’s not metro it’s practical. There is so much quality goods out there. Got red wing 2268 pt91s and getting blue tag vintage Herman’s coming. Real vintage engineer boots probably late 50s or before. If you love em wear em doesn’t matter the cost. What do you think of Herman Blue tag?

Over forty years on two wheels and I have mostly Wesco and Chippewa. I prefer the taller boots for better shin protection. All mine for riding are 16" to 18". What are your thoughts on the taller engineer boots?
@themancaveclub

Yeah, standard kit for most motorcycle police. Wesco did a big run of 10 inch Boss boots some years ago.

I bought a pair of Frye engineer 12R. Are they considered mid tier or lower?
@themancaveclub
@themancaveclub 4 месяца назад
I would consider them mid-upper tier. Mostly based upon the price point. Where as, you can still buy a factory mass produced engineer boot from about $300-$400. Wesco’s as you know are $600-$700.

Great video, just subscribed. Have you ever tried John Lofgren Engineers? I have his in horween natural cxl and Wesco Mr Lou in Maryam horsehide black teacore. My Lofgrens are more premium, and I like them more.
@trinityhandmade3864
@trinityhandmade3864 11 месяцев назад
Yes I did actually have one pair of lofgrens and funny enough they were Ticho Blanco’s pre owned pair. JL are very high quality but they do come across as a factory built pair where as Mr. Lou’s feel way more like a handmade boot with their inconsistencies. I think I forgot to mention the Lofgrens in the video! So many dang boots I can’t even remember them all. Thanks for the watch!
@themancaveclub
@themancaveclub 11 месяцев назад
John Lofgren makes a great boot! I’ve tried them on at Standard & Strange a few times over the years. The JL sizing is a little different for me, I typically wear a 8 1/2D in their boots. I especially love the combat boot!

Nah I will pass on Roleclub, Lofgren, Mr. Lou, etc. way over priced and usually only available up to a size 13. If I want a pair of boots with leather I go for the Wesco Boss and harness. I have numerous pairs with different shaft heights even up to 36 inch for a pair of Boss, size 16. I like boots I can scuff, get dirty, etc.
@williamswiger7547
@williamswiger7547 9 месяцев назад
I look at boots a little different. The Mr. Lou and some other engineers remind me of a southern gentleman boot. Possibly, a sort of western vibe as well. Have a couple pairs of custom Boss boots (no lug sole) that have a totally different look and vibe. One is a biker/work style boot and the other is more of a gentleman's type boot. Just my take on the different options. You can scuff and get them all dirty.
