im 27 watching this in 2023 and there is a certain elegance to these groups from the older eras i love so much. the mcguire sisters are amazing singers
Growing up in the 50's I so well remember the McGuire Sisters on "The Arthur Godfrey Show" (*Note: Arthur Godfrey was a wretched person IMHO) and "The Ed Sullivan Show". They were musical royalty back then! LOVED them!!
@jimmy1045 - Some bio's report a three-year difference in age between Dorothy and Phyllis. Whatever their ages, they are not triplets, even though they used to sing "we look alike, we talk alike, we dress alike, we sing alike", (from Together Where Ever We Go).
at 3:25 Arlene says, "I thought I'd asked if they had"--and then she says, "Why did I say 'they'?" Think she was trying to cover up knowing ahead of time who the guests were?
Which one was Dorothy? She just passed away this September at age 84 the other sisters are 81 and 86 respectively. The McQuire Sisters were the absolute best, better than the Andrew Sisters and the DeMarco sisters before them . McQuire Sisters had terrific voices and their harmony was just extraordinary. I was too young to really appreciate them when they were at their Zenith in the 50's but they stayed in great shape physically and vocally many decades after that, they were truly remarkable.
It was, indeed, Phyllis, who was mistress of notorious mob figure Salvatore "Sam" Giancana for many years, until his murder in 1975. He reportedly left her extremely well-fixed, financially, and her extravagant parties were very popular with the Vegas old guard for many years. By all accounts, including that of his daughter, Sam was genuinely in love with Phyllis McGuire, and the fact that she saw a lot, but never told, is said to have spared her his fate.
I believed that for a long time too. That it just had to have been Sam who 'set her up' in that big Las Vegas house, etc. But I came across a story one day, about a man named Edward "Tiger Mike" Davis, who was monstrously wealthy oil man.. and had a long term relationship with Ms. Phyllis. I think you'll be interested to read an article called "How the biggest gambler in Vegas stole Giancana's Girl and lost over 20 M" Quite fascinating indeed.
Their noses all appear narrower than in previous videos. They definitely had work done over the years but it was of the very highest quality. I met them some years ago and had a conversation close up and they looked just sensational and very natural. It think they've worked hard to keep fit and healthy. Their warm, vibrant personalities have never wavered.
