Would be interesting to see some outside camerawork, especially on shoots of hypercars like this one, the Rimac Neverra and the Plaid to get a bit more context on the acceleration. I'm looking out the window when you punch it, and obviously you are being pushed into your seat, but it would be cool to have maybe at least a couple cameras recording the start and end of your acceleration test.

Loved this review! Doug's enthusiasm is infectious. The only thing I would disagree with is the rating for styling being lower than the Bugatti Chiron. I think the Speedtail is far more stylish, but that's a personal thing.

Lmao actually though, just like when your phone is a few milimeters off of the wireless charger. I wonder how a system like that could work with trucks? Receivers on the bottom of the lower suspension arms or something? I suppose what i mean is with something as low and flat as the speedtail i feel like it could be incorporated into the car without a problem. Some tray that sits under the battery tray on the floor. Maybe air suspension that lowers your car when you park would get them close enough? Sry for rant i just like your idea

Don't know why they wouldn't have an option for the reverse cam to be sent to the media screen as a rear view, tap the screen and media options come up, after 10s the cam returns. 15 years ago I did a project at college for chromatic glass visors, cool to actually see them implemented.

ElectroChromatic glass is so cool to me. And pretty simple/achievable technologically. I hope to see more of it. My understanding is it is essentially an LCD like the old 7 segment calculators.

Triple F collection must have had some really good ties with McLaren to not just get one of these, but the xp3 prototype. You can see a Gordon Murray influence on this car. Especially with the tuned induction noise above the driver and all the lightweight materials and toolkit.

I got to see the Speedtail recently amongst several other new McLaren models and I did not expect it to be my favorite of the lot but it was, by far. The side profile is always the shot that gets shared the most but the front and rear of the car are absolutely spectacular.

A small but interesting point. Gold is heavier than lead. Look at the Periodic Table of Elements. The Yellowish tools with a greenish Hugh are likely made from Titanium as is the case in the F1. Cheers!

i love how they kept the original spirit of the F1 with the seats and the windows. But common the windows are so small, can't be more proud to have own the very unique Toyota Sera witch had the door it inspired the Mclaren F1 and it costed me pretty much 0 except use, bought it from 2300 NZD and sold it 3000 , it pay the repairs bills. so i would never ever put so much money in a car.

Solid gold tools would be insanely expensive (not that this car isn't) and extremely impractical to use (not that anyone would) since gold is a very soft metal, and also contrary to what he said is very heavy.

THIS is a Poster car! its been 20 years almost since the Veyron. I love the mirror LCD's just bolted on to the dash especially the dead line on the right. Its very reminiscent of a Stingray from the 60s

A part from the hideous blue interior this car is truly gorgeous. I wish more cars looked like this. I can imagine parking this car or navigating in the city when rear of the car is bigger that the front.

A mistake in this video: the tool kit is not solid gold, as some RU-vidrs have reported. The tools are titanium. They may be good plated but the coating looks like titanium nitride to me. 12:47 Gold is very soft, very weak, and very dense. The titanium material is according to road and track.

I can confirm it is a titanium nitride coating. The F1 was the same. Facom titanium tool with a titanium nitride coating to add surface hardness.

As you can see there is no cup holder, which is another reason it can't be legally sold in the US. Instead, McLaren has a button under the drive pedal you access by first throwing a special hawaiian lava rock at a button located in the bottom right corner of the break pedal. Doing so releases an endangered animal that will be sent over to the driver via drone to give you a drink. Endangered species and type of drink varies depending on which package you choose.

I was talking to one of the engineering team for the Speedtail, they explained the paint that covers the flexible rear spoilers cost hundreds of thousands to develop because normal paint would just crack and become discoloured. Amazing.
