Relationships with parents are complicated. I think her perception of her relationship with her father softened with his passing. Her mother did the best she could. It does not excuse the All That Glitters debacle.

I cried literally sobbing at this chapter because it reflected my personal experience as a child. I never thought Mariah herself had same experience growing up. I felt not safe with members of my family. Mariah's music has been a center of my life since she started in 1990 but not in my wildest dream that Mariah that I love and adore was in such a difficult situation just like anybody else. I was shocked when read her book. I even love her more.

You guys did a great job reviewing the "Wayward child" chapter of the book. I feel the same way all of you feel about Mariah's ex-brother and ex-sister, they seem so bitter about Mariah's success especially Morgan saying in an interview with his wife that Mariah owes her success to him because he made the initial connection with Mariah and Greedy Ben Margiulies. That comment was filled with bitterness and anger, conveniently forgetting that Mariah's God given talent as a singer and songwriter put her were she is today. Alison seems beyond help, we know that Mariah has given financial support to her time and again.Outside help is of course needed in the case of most addicts but it also has to come from within and it seems like Alison does'nt want to help herself. I love the book and am reading it again for the second time. You guys all made really interesting and valid points, it was a great video, looking forward to part 2. Thanks

I found your channel while binge watching interviews and press surrounding the book. I've avoided watching anything that may spoil my experience until I finished the book entirely. I'm only a little over half way through your video but I was compelled to leave a comment and express my appreciation. The way you articulate and express your thoughts show how deeply her music has affected you. Thank you xo

For some reason the parmesan cheese story really hit me. As a very shy, soft spoken child, I would have sat there and been too scared to speak up, and probably would have been crying at the table with each bite, lol. It just shows how brave and headstrong she was at such a young age to stand up to her aunt and refuse to eat the food she ruined that her dad spent all day making. It really stuck with me because you can see that she really is that girl again❤ Knowing that she was so strong and independent, and brave since she was so young, it is even more disturbing how Tommy used his power to trap her into a situation where her core instincts to stand up for herself and not let anyone tell her what to do were completely useless and she basically was forced to stay at the table and eat the parmesan....😪😪😪

I was really absorbed by stories from her childhood in the audiobook, listening to her go back in time and relive those moments was a lot!!

There are few shocking moments (to me) in that part of the book. Of course the reveal of the whole Pat's situation was the most surprising. All this time I thought she was an amazing mother and then da bomb dropped. 😳 Especially the part where Mariah remembers Henry (1 of her mom's bfs) who was very nice to her (paid for the Summer art camp, build a swing on the tree, gave her a cat etc). The scene where she & her mom got to leave the house, 'coz he lost his mind & could kill both of them. I was like: wtf?! 😱
@HeyLamb
@HeyLamb 3 года назад
Yeah, I was totally shocked at that part! Mariah went back into the house to get the cat and Pat's just sat in the car waiting for her! 😮

@@HeyLamb Yup. Another example of "responsible" behavour of a mum. 🙄 Tho I like (in that story) how Mariah finished it by saying "I hope u made it too, Henry" - after (few years later) he was so happy hearing, that Mariah succeed in the music-business. 🙂

I'm listening to the audiobook and am enoying some parts more than others because I really love gospel music and have found the parts about Whitney and Aretha interesting and the parts about Mariah's family and her abusive marriage to Tommy so sad. Thanks for sharing this.

The book was a intense interesting journey from start to end. the first chapter is one of its best. it's not easy to read all the things she was going through. Still, part of the details about daughter-mother was hard to read. I believe famous people have a lot of influence of other people (Mostly fans)...and her mother, is maybe far from perfect, but also only human. and it's important not hurry to judge.

You know I think her dad is painted in a better light but similar to how Patrica sainted her own mom after her passing, I think the same occured with Alfred. I'm quite sure there are memories of bad times but not advertised as much as the other ex family members. The ex sister excerpt when Mariah talks about her leaving for the Phillipines had me feeling some strong feelings of self-blame or helplessness? It is insinuated in the words some bad things happened to her sister during that time and I think Mariah feels some kind of sibling responsibility to have been able to have done more or stopped things looking back. Strange considering her sister has done few things to even illustrate why Mariah should even entertain her existence anymore. I hate her sister. Hate her for putting our Mariah through all that and not taking up the opportunity to be a good sister when she did make it big. Does she know how many of us would have loved to be Mariah's sister? Unbelievable how horrible ones own family could treat one of their own. Ughh I'm glad Mariah had an opportunity to share this side of her life. Helps us reconcile aspects of her like that we only get glimpses of through media and listening to her songs. Thanks for this lamb review of the book. Thoroughly enjoying it. Can't wait for Sing Sing. Props to Da Brat for breaking our queen out of hell!

The entire first like three chapters I was in tears bc I went through a lot of the same shit and the fact that she was able to make somethin of herself and become the legend/icon that she is today really got to me. Also Allison and Morgan who?

I was also surprised about how she described both of her parents. I never thought her dad was as active in her life as she said, but I also didn't expect Mariah to speak of her mother as negatively with exceptions. I think it's pretty obvious at the same time that there's two sides of the story, and Patricia probably has dirt on Mariah that wasn't addressed in the memoir - especially with how badly Mariah took the whole 'you could never sing like me' situation which most other people wouldn't dwell upon (even as a singer). After all, Patricia never spoke out against Mariah (not that I know of) but from interviews it sounds like she's no nonsense and my concern is that Mariah also paints herself in a bad light, it's not the only time in the memoir where she does this and this is the less obvious worry. Edit: If Mariah's account of the Glitter debacle was true, there was no excuse for Patricia to behave the way she allegedly did, but it begs the question of 'why was she featured on an album?', and no I don't think she should be removed because unlike the other track that apparently got pulled from another album, this was a situation Mariah has always known about. Aside from this and the other issue I had with the Memoir, I enjoyed reading/listening to it - I got through it in a day and a half.

I would love my sister to read the book... We are very close and even if she respects and understands my obsession for Mariah (she has idols too), I always felt that she didn't understand Mariah. Before coming to The Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour with me, I asked her to read the little biography of MC I had made on my site, but she didn't, like she had no interest. She did come to the concert though, which is great enough I guess, but she still doesn't know the real Mariah... Anyway, I loved the video, you guys are great and you make me proud to be part of the Lambily!!!

Thanks so much for watching and sharing that about your sister. I totally get what you mean. If people ask or wonder why I love Mariah I'm kinda "If you know, you know." And I don't try and explain or convince anyone anymore. It's been 20 years and it's between me and her...and then I get to share it with the lambily! 😀
