Where is the escapement mechanism of a pendulum clock and how does he add energy to the pendulum to prevent the clock from stopping? How does the pendulum control the wand to display the time?

I found a clock like this but black forest color in my father's random stuff area, everything is there but the pendulem (finding photos of this antique clock is hard) I am making one, my proto pendulem is about 9 inch long of sodering iron and started rolling it up till the beat and speed is right now that I know it works I can make a permanent one.

Make the bob of the pendulum adjustable, so you can vary the length slightly to adjust the speed of the clock if needed.

@@StefanBracher that's the plan, the biggest problem at first was pendulem weight and langth then buy a small threaded rod of the langth and maybe make a weighted sphere of wood or steel. I love working on clocks.

Did you make this clock you self? Was this just a bought clock or was it like a clock building kit? I’m participating in a engineering competition and my task is to creat a time keeping device and I was going to make a pendulum clock. I would love to buy something like this online to study it.

It was bought like this at a swiss souvenir shop. I think you can buy the mechanism separately... It is great to study the escapement mechanism on a cheap device.

Pendulums are great for time keeping... The length of the pendulum determines the period. The main engineering challenge is the escapement mechanism that keeps the pendulum going by periodically giving it a small push. Good luck with the competition, sounds like an amazing project (should do one with my students)
