Today I take a look at the fantastic Medieval Mod for Total War Attila, it's amazing! Medieval Kingsdoms 1212AD has been in development for years and the campaign portion is finally playable and on the steam workshop! I'll play as England and attempt to defeat the French!

@Nathan I do realise that. I don't speak french myself apart from a couple of words. However a couple of words or expressions in foreign languages are usually relatively well known among people who are into paradox games. I bet most people who play these types of games also know the word Kaiser for example.

@Nathan Hill you have Royal in English, so yeah Roy / Roi is pretty straightforward to understand... :)

@Nathan Hill lol... It doesn't "sound similar", it's the same word. Royal is just the adjective of Roy (old spelling) that became Roi in the new spelling. Maybe you didn't go enough in language classes ;) Anyway, it was actually a funny moment in the video and it's not a big deal !

SuomuSintti It’s a bit more than just a mod. They created new settlement models, unit models, icons, missions and nations. Pretty much only the mechanics are the same so about 70% of the game with the mode is their creation.

CA had made the scaffolding before, the engine, the graphics and the mechanics the modders expanded upon. It's amazing work for a couple of people working in their free time, but let's not diminish the work of the company developers.

Regicide is probably one of my favorite parts of playing total war. Still love my favorite battle where I cut down the king of England and his heir twice in one battle as the Scots.

It is an event that happens. in my playthrough i became allies with france and did not sign the magna carta which allowed me to kill all of those disloyal nobles. And im currently on the crusade

I think the population is literally reflecting the in game pop. Like when you think about it, all the total war games are like mini versions of the real thing. Probably if you put all the in game city populations for Kingdom of England at campaign start together, 92,000 plus is what you get.

I loved the era for medieval 2, but it was mechanically like pulling teeth, especially since I came in with games like Shogun and Warhammer. Trying to understand whats happening in that old game is a pain. So I hope this works out well, cause it would be great to finally have that Era in a much higher quality!

1:45 at first glance this seems to represent the recruitable military-age population rather than the total national population. 90k people would be a pretty vast reserve of manpower for this period.

From what I can tell about Frankish settlements, they not only likebeing garrisoned from the millitary presence policing buff, but there's also (I'm assuming intentional) an additional buff in comparison to other places. I'm assuming because said North West Europeans don't like the fact they're likely to be attacked by their original or other monarchs... Because who like your house being burned down... There are other settlements in the vanilla game, according to certain factions, and depending on which local factions still exist while you're at war, get the same additional boost. The Devs put it in for the above reason. It's nice to know you're not a prime target, because you're being defended (In reality, some factions (typically the more nomadic barbarians, and rebel like north Africans) don't give a s*** and just see an army, and think "I must remove my enemy" Some of which are part of the above code xD).

Rome got a lot better after they patched the worst of the ass out of it. Atilla... I kinda liked some elements, like how the map felt so much more alive with the encroaching winter and the like, but in other ways, it felt like they'd dumbed it down, like with the unit variety and lack of real formations.

@@HinFoo Honestly now? None, just the base game. The patches removed the worst of the bugs and the like. The Divide Et Impera mod also made the game a LOT more intricate and deep, but I consider it to have fallen a bit too hard on historical realism, while ignoring what makes for actually fun gameplay. Attila might be a bit more polarising. You'll probably either like it enough to forgive its flaws, or the whole premise the the changes they made won't grab you and all you'll be left with is the flaws.

Great little play through. Very enjoyable. Playing as English I took over the british isles and ireland before launching my attack on France. AI factions seem very loyal once you have them onside. Like to see you create the British Empire in this campaign.

Old school Medieval 2 player here. I find the Attila mechanics so frustrating, it's one of the few games that I found absolutely unenjoyable and after several hours of frustration, I ragequited.
