This song makes me cry. Every time I hear it I remember the Ancient Israelites. Due to sin they were ripped from Jerusalem many died by the sword, many were forced to live in a foreign land. Some never returned. The lesson to be learned is when humans sin, the spirit of the Lord withdraws and humans left to fend for themselves.
Boney M did such a great version of this song that it overshadows the original artists. This song will be sung for hundreds of years after the authors passing.
Boney M tried to steal the song by not crediting the original songwriters on the first issue of their single. They also sanitised some of the rastafarian lyrics so it would appeal to pop disco fans for the majority of whom the real, spiritual message was completely lost.

Although I prefer the lyrics from the Bible, without the Rastafarian substitutions, I like this more than the Boney M version. It's wonderful to see and hear them singing it live.
the "fake shiat" remains the most sold and danced and listened to....and, hadn't it been for the Boney M version, this song would be completely unknown, so the Boney M can't have made such a disaster, or shiat, as you say elegantly. think before you judge (stupidly)

Das will ich schon glauben, daß die Boney-M.-"Wöaschn" among the Disco Youth nicht unbekannt ist. Es mag ja auch viele geben, die einen x-beliebigen Song von Ex-Unterhosen-Model R. Fendrich (Er ist dabei wenigstens selbstkritisch.) den wahrhaft originellen Aufnahmen der "Attwenger" vorziehen. - Geddit?
