Great video. I can remember back in 1999, before the houses and Morrisons (Safeway) was built you could drive most of the way down the old track down to the tractor testing circle.
Really interesting video, well done. The dead-end lines always intrigue me... Meltham, Holmfirth, Kirkburton, Clayton West being the local ones. Fantastic !
Thank you I’ve covered the kirkburton and holmfirth if you could subscribe and see more 😃 I’m also looking to do a reeboot of this line soon as I’ve found more information and pictures And also how netherton station looks today 😃
Just found these videos after looking at your Pickle Bridge offerings .Another excellent pair of presentations .I never realised how much was left to see on this branchline .All this new housing ... all they need now is a branchline railway on the doorstep to get them into Huddersfield quickly. Wonder if anyone ever thought of doing that !!!
Thank you these were my first ever videos I’ve refilmed a better version of this But not uploaded yet ! This line started me off on the disused railway lines ! Yes so much to see ! But be on the lookout for the reeboot 😎
Thankyou for your video. I like for presentation and the research into the history of the railway. Keep up the good work. Lets hope the authorities open up the tunnel for walkers and cyclists.
superb exploration well presented, lots of engineering for a small branch line high embankments, deep cuttings and tunnels ,would have been a lovely train ride, thank you very much
Good informative set of videos I gave you a sub! 12:10 is Lockwood in 1958 though, a station still open today. The picture was taken after some runaway carriages crashed into the booking hall see damage on the left.
Very well done. I am from Lockwood, and would be interested in any material you may have on thie topic, also Lockwood Brewery. Looking forward to more videos.
Thank you for your reply .I am Chairman of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Society and would like your permission to mention your channel in our next magazine .I'm sure our membership would enjoy watching your videos. We are a Society of over 900 members and I'm sure most of them are not aware of what you are doing .Holmfirth, Meltham and the Pickle Bridge line are all ex LYR lines .Clayton West ,Stainland and Rishworth are also West Yorkshire branches worth looking at with things of interest to see.Keep up the good work .Look forward to getting your reply .We'll done again .
100% course you can mention the channel ! And wow I didn’t know ! Thanks so much for the positive feedback I’m still to do Stainland and Clayton west soon !😃
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZAOU0-NpfJ8.htmlsi=f4EIQn2ft-kjZqzy This is my rishworth branch video But I was a bit less experienced back then 🥲
I remember - as an apprentice at nearby DBT - seeing tractors mounted on flatbed wagons being hauled away by a steam engine. I assumed that that mode of transport would last for a long time when all of a sudden (about 1966) the tracks were removed.....
Really enjoyable video of my local area. You were almost in sight of my house at one point. Lived here all my life but I still managed to learn quite a lot. Thank you. PS. Could you wave the camera around a bit less please. I do realise it is for artistic effect and purposes, but it is perhaps a little much some times. 👍😎
Great video, Ashton! But so frustrating - twice this year we have tried to find the old Netherton station and tunnel and failed each time. How on earth do you get there? Found Healey House okay!
For netherton station it’s down station road there were construction building going on so I went down this side embankment above the tunnel Now whether I was meant to go down there or not I’m not sure ! However it was a risky one getting there as it was a steep hill
