The Menu is a satirical black comedy taking jabs at the restaurant industry and foodie culture. I had no clue what this movie was when I walked into it at Fantastic Fest and it ended up being one of my favorite films of the year!

I was the only person in my theater who audibly laughed out loud when “Tyler’s bullshit” came on screen. I think everyone else was too disturbed to laugh with everything else going on in the movie but I totally understood the dark comedy tone it was going for

Anya Taylor-Joy and Mia Goth have become two of my favorite actors in the last year. Nicholas Hoult always surprises me too. He was so good in Fury Road!

A friend of mine asked me to join her film club and it was awkward to participate because I don't care about screen writing, cinematography, etc. I just enjoy good storytelling and getting caught up in the experience. At one point she basically told me that I watch movies like a child and my appreciation for them is juvenile. The foodie character spoke to my experience with her film snobbery and I experienced a little symbolic schadenfreude watching his storyline. Especially the bit where the chef lays into how he's taken all the fun and magic out of elite cooking. I loved this film and think the pretentiousness it lampoons can apply to several different spheres of art/creation in our modern society.

I agree 100%. I identified with Margot as a film enjoyer because literally in every film class I go to i present myself as a casual viewer even though I love film and want to work with it and I just feel so uncomfortable with snobs whose favorite movie is a Lars Von Trier movie or something when mine is Infinity War lol. So I definitely think this movie’s message might be more universal than originally intended.

Just got done watching it and came straight here. I enjoyed it for the most part for the reasons you gave. The only real issue I had, was that I had a hard time believing that all of Ralph Fiennes staff, would just go along with the whole thing. If it had been only a few people ,then I could have bought that part.

What's funny is that I just finished reading a story by Chet Williamson called "Excerpts from the Records of the New Zodiac" that was written years ago but which seems to touch on some of the themes you described in this film. Essentially, a bunch of rich snobs form a club and take turns catering the menu, so they each keep trying to one-up the exoticness and expense of the menu until it starts to take a sinister turn. The dining options had some of the most hilarious names that are clearly making fun of foodie culture. Weird how as soon as I finished it and then turn on RU-vid that your video popped up next. Can't wait to see this film, and looking forward to your cooking channel!

Since I saw this review my expectations for this movie skyrocketed. Yesterday I finally got to see the film and it was amazing. I love cooking so that side really spoke to me, and there were so many amazing jokes. The birthday bit and especially everything regarding the Tyler's Bullshit scene were one of the funniest things I have seen all year, that title card and what it said was amazing!

Saw this last night and yes, perfectly stated. It was brilliant! Besides Anna Taylor-Joy (current favorite actress because she is so intriguing to watch), Ralph Fiennes and Nicholas Hoult being amazing Hong Chau as Elsa really set the tone in the first act!

I loved the Hunt, the jokes landed and it was done really well. I remember people bad mouthing the hunt way b4 it came out. Not saying this is like the hunt except maybe in the dark comedy since. Never heard of this until now. They will get me and mines money.. great review without giving to much up. This should be their ad campaign... play your video. Not ass kissing, but Hollywood ruins alot of movies with there trailers. Maybe not ruin but you know what I mean.

@@gregflip5938 i think it was just the fact that she could afford to go to Brown without loans, so she was well-off and probably from a family of “takers”. Thats how i saw it at least, and audibly laughed when he hears that and immediately goes “you’re dying”
