I had no idea the dark brotherhood had low disposition voice lines, thats absolutely amazing. another thing I've learned 13+ years after I started playing
To be fair, it's REALLY hard to get bad disposition when the ways to gain disposition are as follows Joining the guild Advancing in the guild Killing people allied against the guild Completing contracts Bribery Persuasion And the ways to drop disposition are Bad persuasion Breaking the tenants You have to TRY to get low disposition with your guild members, and aside from the Khajiit, they'll all love you for just existing inside the guild.
It is because of this quest that I prefer the Morag Tong. There is nothing more fun for me to stroll to a target, show them the writ and give them a second to say there prayers before they die and just walk away like nothing happened and no one can touch you. Because you know I have all the paperwork right here.
@@DavidVassleofYeshua In Morrowind you have several quests where you can get away with murder right in the middle of the city just because you have a permit.
I am replaying Oblivion after Sithis knows how many years, what a perfect time to discover your channel. I thought I knew the Dark Brotherhood inside and out. Would you consider doing the Thieves Guild quest line?
Glad to hear you're back frolicking around Cyrodiil. RE the thieves guild, Absolutely! I am going to see what hits harder (emotionally). The Mages guild or Thieves, first.
Story telling and role playing is great through this. I do hope that Bethesda makes some effort to put factional outfits in TES6 like you’ve mentioned regularly through these videos. Even a street clothes vs. armor change would be nice.
This was absolutely one of my favorite Oblivion Quests. It has backstory, loads of history leading to this pregnant moment, Phillida thinks he's safe now that he's retired, you must do actual scouting and investigation to learn his schedule, strike when the time is just right, and it leaves a shocking message that shakes the entire Legion Guard. What wonderful set up and payoff.
So the Dark Brotherhood tells us that there's been three assassination attempts on Phillida. But the Black Horse Courier only mentions two. Did the third assassin see the writing on the wall and decide it was time to migrate to Morrowind?
Not only that, but the same issue says that he served the Imperial Legion in the Imperial City for +25 years, while Adamus himself says it's been forty. That Waldorf Wordswell needs to do his research before he writes a paper!
@@AHEM1313 Does Adamus say specifically in the Imperial City? I don't recall his dialogue off the top of my head. I was under the impression that when you start your career in the legion you're first made to prove your worth in areas where there's obvious tensions and conflict, so if he just says he was in the Emperor's service, or in the Legion, not specifically stationed in the City, then he'd have been serving the Emperor for forty years, with only the 25+ years in the City itself. Being assigned to the City and more directly working under the Emperor and Council is generally reserved for people who proved their loyalty in service prior, I think the only sidesteps to that are the Imperial Battlemages and the Shadow Legion, who require insanely high entrance requirements according to Battlespire.
@@AHEM1313I also remember that line but all it means is he has been in the legion for forty years, not in his current post for forty years. Given how accomplished he is though I could believe his current posting really is the one he has been in the longest. He really does give the vibe it is not coincidence he is where he is.
Can we take a moment to appreciate Phillida says that the Dread Father can kiss his wrinkled ass? To a DB member no less. Zero fucks given, especially after putting down three previous assassins. What a badass who deserved his retirement.
This is genius content wise doing the quest and breaking down the different choices outcome and dialogue brilliant and you have a massive amount of content to cover and I will be here for all of it
19:12 The cave music you chose for this moment was 10/10 design choice, you should be proud. Feels like Sithis is watching over the archer's shoulder in this moment.
this is extremely high quality story telling. I can clearly recognize your channel from watching your diablo videos probably a year ago. I'm noticing a lot of extra effort all over the editing. great video.
Ou my! i never though that there will be so in depth interaction with his bodyguard! Oblivion is always able to somehow surprise me ... btw could you please do video on some dungeons in Shivering Isles? I believe there is some cool stories to tell (i can remember at least one with a deep hole where some cultists are making sacrifices for some god of theirs or smth)
200 years later, they were overrun and (POSSIBILY) wiped out once and for all. My only hate for bethesda is that on SKyrim they gave you a chance of destroying DB, but not the thieves guild. For me it was the only insult i felt from that awesome game.
Feeling the final heart-beat of Phillida on my blade was a distant second sensation to the symphony of Valen Dreth's final impotent scream, but I will sleep well none the less.
summitmist manor will forever be one of my top favorite quests in the brotherhood, in Skyrim my favorites are repeatedly tormenting Gaius Maro, and bound until death.
Just refreshing my knowledge on the quest and , oh, you can taunt him to attack you, then strike him down in self defense. The guards will even help if they see him attack first. Brings back Morrowind memories.
Does anybody else notice that this quest begins with 3 assassins stated to have failed in murdering Phillida. But the quest ends with only 2 stated to have failed?
I remember the first time i played this mission... And following him for two in-game days just to find the right opportunity to get it done while also staking out the Best moment to leave the "reminder" in the successors desk. I believe his bodyguard still waits at the pond .
just so you know, bemused and amused arent synonyms, bemused means confused or puzzled. unless thats the word you intended to use there, and i misunderstood the sentence, it doesnt seem to fit. great vid as always, i didnt know the bodyguard commits suicide.
I never can be assed to comment just to complement how good videos are but genuinely these oblivion videos are fuckin awesome keep doing them I look forward watching them before I go to sleep
Imperial Guard: "This is your last warning. Get out or I'll arrest you!" You: "Little does he know, the Dark Brotherhood is closer than he thinks... 😈" Imperial Guard: "..."
Every Oblivion video I'v watched from this channel so far everyone has like 0 disposition towards him. Man must've worked really hard to become the most despised man in Cyrodiil lol
You know, it's kind of a weak threat to plant Philida's finger in a desk. I mean, it sounds intimidating but after several failed attempts and hitting a target who is well past his prime? Lol, alright.
On the flip side, it would show Philida's successor that should they persist in bothering the Brotherhood, the dark organization will hound them until they are dead.
Shock value. Pointing out the Brotherhood doesn't stop until there is success and quite gruesome to find the finger of a person, but especially one of a person you likely knew and deeply respected. Imagine being an elite soldier and being told you will have to fend off assassins all your life. Even if you are confident you are better it would be unnerving to realize all it takes is a moment of inattention.
@@jacobfreeman5444Or it makes said replacement into Philida V2, angrier and even more focused on stamping out the brotherhood. Considering the brotherhood is down to you and a handful of survivors, its no wonder they're in such shabby shape by Skyrim
I have to play through a bit to see if its as exciting but possibly! I am also circling the Mages guild as a decent follow up. That or the DB in Skyrim
On one of my play throughs a long time ago I remember finding a dbh member across the water from leyawin dead on the bank. Now that I watch this and hearing philida say another one of you dbh members makes me wonder if they killed that member. I gotta go back and check that out
@@HappyBeezerStudios well the good thing is. I still have my original copy for the 360. I haven't touched the dbh in my recent game yet. But when I do I'll look for the body. And I'll let you know lol
I'm surprised the bodyguard walked off instead of sticking around. The last time I played (forever ago), he drew his sword and stuck around the body. I couldn't go near it to get the finger without getting arrested. Had to grab it and bolt. Good times
I love your content. Bethesda put more of their writing talents into Oblivion rather than Skyrim, I mean, seriously. Look how many quests have bonuses, failed bonuses, passes & failures. Like... if you fail the bonuses, I think you have to complete side contracts before the main one, right? I might be mistaken but I think that's how it works, mainly because each main contract is dependent on your Faction Rank. I'm really hoping ES6 they offer something Dragon Age gave us, in the sense of, relationship levels, consequences, and world-state decisions. I'd love for spell-crafting & research to be a thing, and if ES6 is directly after Skyrim (and as the Dragonborn) something like Dragon Age's Dragon Keep should be a thing, where you can load in your previous character's world state, like for example, you sided with the Imperials, completed Dawnguard, but didn't complete Dragonborn... or you picked the neutral option and didn't side with either Imperial nor Stormcloak, completed both DLC's, yanno you get the picture. Though, I doubt it'll be like that lol. Still really curious what the canon ending is for the DB. Is he/she going to end the Civil War without taking a side? Are they a Vampire Lord or apart of the Dawnguard? But we do know they definitely are Herma-Mora's champion, and we do know for a fact they slayed Alduin. ALSO did they spare Paarthanax or Slay him for the two most disappointing/annoying NPC's? We know compared to all the other games, our character isn't the Guild Leader for all the guilds lol. Though I am really curious the state of them will be, especially the Dark Brotherhood. But anyway. Keep up the lovely content!
I hope the empire side of the civil war is canon. Not because I disregard the Stormcloak's goals, but because the empire needs to be strong and united. Even General Tullius recognizes that the Aldmeri Dominion are the real enemy. And I hope Paarthurnax stays alive in the lore. Pretty much everyone is on his side, the Dragonborn can always kill him later, and having a swarm of dragons on your side can only be useful.
that death note was pretty shallow. You'd think his character would be written as grieving and upset over the life lost, but instead it seems he's more concerned about being a failure in general. Not to say that motivation cant be done well if it's taken more seriously.
I remember sneaking into where he slept and shooting him with the arrow at close range, on another playthrough I remember shooting the arrow up his arse after I made a little noise that got him out of bed, I also remember shooting him in the face bypassing armor or even using a bow with high armor piercing... The vampire dark brotherhood assassin, is he not the one who bit and turned Babette in skyrim.
I am verh interested if you have any leads on that. All my searching turns up is stuff about how she differs biologically as a vampire from Serana. Anything specifically about Babette is turning up a "mysterious past". Are there any articles or forums or videos you know of?
21:20 Umm... Mr. Guard. You're not even looking at the body and you're kind of... smiling? Actually, six secs prior is more accurate in hindsight. Still, dude's clearly not looking his way when talking about him and seemingly smiling a little.
I know almost everything about oblivion and today i learned that the members of the card brotherhood can hate you and have likes saying how shit you are makes me wonder how much dialogue i missed. Damn it now i gotta play the entire questline again
Always wanted a counter fanction for Dark brotherhood. Like Morrowind had Morag Togue. I dont like being assassin and killing all these folks most of them being innocent .
Can we talk about how awful the reward is, when you've been given so much good shit up until then? 500 gold, seriously??? You got an instant death arrow and took out the Brotherhoods biggest threat. Nothing. Not even like a black soul gem hinted to have had part of Phillias soul or whatever.
See this is the thing that always kind of annoying me a bit about the world of tamriel. They always try to say the adra will protect you. How their so much stronger than the dedra. That as long as you lead a good life and follow your beliefs you'll be welcomed into their arms. Frankly this is utter BS. What's that you were strong-armed to becoming a werewolf too bad. Oh you got violently assaulted by one out of nowhere and did everything you could to not be changed into one too bad. Oh what's that you got mind controlled and forced into servitude of a vampire tough luck. You are sacrificed in the name of a daedric lord well I guess you belong to them. Oh see it says here that you got killed by a weapon specially crafted to send you to that lord. Sorry my hands are tied. Oh okay so literally all of you are useless and the only thing you're telling me is I need to immediately go to the nearest shrine of the daedric Lord I like the most and follow them. Because at the very least as long as I stay loyal to them they put in a level of competency to protect me and have actively admitted if my soul belongs to one of them the others do not hold a claim.
I got to admit, I love Philida and his next in line. Being able to destroy the dark brotherhood in Skyrim, made me very very happy. Some people would ask why the destruction of the wicked brings joy to my heart. Reminds me of a White Magic card, it's function is destroying all creatures/monsters on the field with the description of "Such complete destruction, didn't bring joy to even my dark heart." something along those lines. The dark think they are brutal, but they know not to the true brutality and ultimate finality of the light. All shadows, erased and all blinded by the glory thereof.
Yes, I really enjoyed destroying the dark brotherhood in Skyrim too. I did it with an Imperial patriot RP, and his heart swelled with pride when he informed Commander Maro that the Brotherhood was no more
@@springheeljak145 if our Dragonborns met, they'd argue over the civil war, but have a bro moment over destroying the dark brotherhood. Decide to see how their own worlds turn out and meet up later to discuss how it went.
