I went to Tulane University on a football scholarship in the late 70's and fell in love with NOLA and the people there! What a unique and enchanted city! I miss her!
I lived near the Park and the Zoo when this song came on the radio. Lawd ! I musta been at the right place at the right time!!!! Was also blessed to here them guys lots of time, mostly for free.
Only in the New Orleans. The world will never understand us. Only song about the zoo in the whole wide world. For just about everything in New Orleans, there is a song. That is another reason why I love my City.
gail edwards I'm from the big easy...but now I live..... in......yuk Deaver. Is was crying today it was Mardi Gras and I couldn't go I think I'm getting the flu...I miss my town..up here when I talk they say oh you must be from New York or Boston ..
Even in 2020 this is classic New Orleans vibe!!! I still love it every time I hear it and you still get to direct it at one of your buds and still get a laugh! May the Bon Ton Roulette cher!!!!
So did my NOLA uncle! He sang and I clapped - and I am from Alabama! Those nutty animals on the bayou! That was when I was little and we visited. Now I’m old and I still love this song!
I used to play this loud and sing loud with it at the glass shop I worked at up in atlanta, they all thought I was crazy to get excited about this song talking about food..... they don't know. I'm cajun, not creole, but I love it all the same.
I'm so happy to hear this morning - my daddy used to sing it to me when I was in a bad mood or acting like brat, lol ....he told me it was the song to sing while he was dropping me off at the zoo, my new home.... unless I snapped out of it. His being silly and clowning around always got me laughing and dancing!
I went on down....This song has brought such joy to so many over many decades. My wife and I after all these years took a few turns on our private dance floor tonight listing to this tune and having so many very fond memories of the song and what it brings to mind...all the memories and they all ask'd for you!

I first heard this song in elementary in Baton Rouge back in 1997. This song always made me want red beans and rice. I love that I grew up in the south. Home sweet home
@@bradys3339 Name just about any of them... Brother Martin, Holy Angels, Chapelle, etc. We all sang the song and laughed and giggled as we emphasized the 'monkeys assed' for you!

+ Bernadette Sandoval This song really makes me want to go to Mardi Gras one day. Right now I'm in Minnesota where I've been my entire life. I first heard this song just about a year ago from this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UXxq_nagP04.html
My first serious college & after) girlfriend & her family live in Metairie. I lived in BSL when I lived down there. This is my face MG song. Laissez led bons temps rouler!
I LOVE these songs! I was born in Louisiana but moved to Florida young. Ended up going to college in Louisiana and moved back to Florida, lol. Needless to say I am rooted in this place. Good, bad, or indifferent! Love em❤️
I found out about this song thanks to the Rock Afire Explosion, but after listening to it like 2 or 3 times, I've become addicted. Now, I've listened to it about 20 times. XD
I'm from Montreal, I just heard this song for the first time this evening.... it was playing off of the Kanawake Mohawk station 103.7FM.... I got home and had to immediately find it on youtube....
Hey Lamba’,,,was a kid in the 70s,,,n my cousin had this 45 and he would play it fer me n I fell in love with it , funny I remembered it by the deep blue sea, n thanks to U Tube I got it correctly n didn’t realize it was about a ZOO after all these years ,,,,
Sometimes being a New Yorker is a real pain..I get words and names wrong that I really ought to know. Hubby lived on Jackson Square for decades before Katrina brought him to NY in October 2005, so he is patient with me. I do catch myself saying dumb stuff like BURgundy street, CRAYole food..(like the crayons?) and Lordy... I only just got the hang of Tchoupitoulas..(which is probably spelled wrong). Be kind, and know my heart's in the right place even if my pronunciation isn't.....when we come back in 2018, for NOLA 300, I should have it right, by then!!!
No other place like the Crescent City. It has a culture of it's own, like going to a foreign country without a passport. The only place in the world to get a real muffuletta sandwich at it's place of origin, the Central Grocery at the French Market in the Quarter.
My mother took me to this song because she thought it sounded like the monkey’s ass the tiger’s ass instead of ask. I just had to listen to it. I love it.
This brought back such sweet childhood memories! I had WTIX on earlier & this came on. What a great song about NOLA living, it's all about the food & the zoo! One of the Neville's is either on vocals or an instrument. We have such incredible musicians & food that come out of NOLA & other parts of LA too! I'm a proud NOLA native & will always love my birthplace! 💜💚💛⚜ 🖤💛⚜ 😋 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Meters

I've been a Metermaniac since I heard the 1st few seconds of "Sophisticated Cissy", back in 1969.
