This is the first episode of my series about my journey in microbudget filmmaking. Follow along as I share tools, insights, and methods I'm using to make my movie. Up for today is writing! I'm not here to tell you how to write a great script, but I can tell you the method that worked for me to actually finish a feature film script!

The beginning of writing can be such a struggle! I'm in the starting stages of my next feature script, and in the past the vomit draft method has worked well for me, but this time I find myself gravitating towards the card method. I'll have to give Milanote a try!

It's cool to hear how what's working for you has changed. Maybe the vomit draft will work for me again in the future haha.

thanks for making this- i relate heavy to being anxious about “which version of the story you chose to tell.” there’s an overwhelming amount of options within any concept, so it’s terrifying to feel like you’re wasting it by not choosing the right option. this organization advice is refreshing. excited to see the feature and the updates as you shoot it!

Ugh, yeah the struggle not to feel like your “wasting the idea” is so real for me, definitely going through that currently with a story haha.

Thanks for sharing. Speaking from experience, I wouldn't rule out a "vomit draft" with the approach to just writing it in a "stream of conscience", unfiltered way. It's a great tool to parse interesting ideas, especially because you're approaching it intuitively rather than conceptually. Letting it out with no concern, worry, judgment, with regard to a vomit draft will surprise you. You can generate actions, dialogues, concepts, ideas etc. your conceptual mind would never of thought of. It really works for me. Can't wait to see more, man. All the best. :)

I like this approach! I’m not sure if it would work for me personally to see it through all the way, but I’m sure a lot of interesting material to work with would come out of it!

@@obscurity_films oh sure, it’s just a draft to see if there’s anything interesting to move forward with to an actual first draft. Hope it helps. You got this.

When I hear vomit draft it makes me think one of 2 things Either Vomiting all of your ideas onto the page regardless of structure or coherence Or a draft so bad it's vomit inducing

Rebekah Lee! She’s so great and she actually only started acting recently, this is one of her first films.
