i find it funny how Fourside in EarthBound looks like a small tiny little city like you only see just a few buildings in Super Smash Bros. it looks like a huge New York City like metropolis
The thing is they were going for that, they couldn’t for multiple reasons, one the system couldn’t handle it second rpgs almost never do big huge cities mainly because it defeats the point of cities just being checkpoints to do things like “heal, buy stuff recruit characters get items and leave” so a big huge city would be worthless, pokemon tried to do that with lumiose city but that was just kinda annoying
The funniest thing is same thing with the Pokémon series how the cities look like in the games they also look like tiny small towns but in the anime series and Super Smash Bros. they’re actual huge cities like Saffron City for example
IMO, the way Fourside is designed makes a fantastic illusion of size. All of the towns in Eagleland are actually quite large by JRPG standards, and Fourside itself is technically smaller than Onett, but it never feels that way when you're playing.
Town of Onett, there I grew. Threed and Twoson were cool too. My worries float away. Not to visit, here to stay. I just want to take a ride. And go to Fourside.
Rented this work of art from Blockbuster, sat on the floor in childhood awe when I arrived to Fourside. Always loved cities as a kid; this felt like a place you could explore for days. This song will always hold a special place in my heart, though it carries a tinge of sadness.
That was pretty cool that a sound stone was clearly visible within Fourside then when you got there it would play the Sanctuary music and not the city music
Look up “When I Got Your Wave (Pathetique)” by Jun Fukamachi. Then tell me it’s not a direct inspiration. And THEN proceed to listen to more work by Jun because he’s a treasure.
I always thought that the fourside theme sounded similar to the second movement of Beethoven's "sonata pathetique," and low and behold, the Jun Fukamachi song's main melody was taken directly from the Beethoven piece. Very interesting
I only came to play earthbound beginnings in 2016, then mother 2 this year. Even though I only knew about earthbound through my childhood years with the smash series, the melee stages with these soundtracks have helped make earthbound even more nostalgic for me. Coming to Fourside feels like revisiting an old friend who was always there. A friend who never forgot about what mattered in life, and the answer was always pollyanna. I love earthbound so much 🌏
This is so day and night from the Smash Bros. Melee arrangement that I grew up with. I can barely even tell its the same song unless I speed up the music by 1.25.
