i just recently discovered thats a real thing... friend that had dissapeared for a while then came back with an audiphile hobby turned condecending to anything cheap that could just lift your experience like a true elitist... havent heard of him since (pun not intended)
@@Velkanis the hobby can be so damn expensive, when you invest into a particular sound, you don't want to know that you over paid for a comparable product. The budget audiophile side of things is so fun to explore, I wish people would engage with it more. I got a set of KZ PR2 planar IEM's coming from china for 50 CAD
@@Graive17 sunken cost fallacy, also thats a pretty good score for those KZ's man grats! the reality of it being so subjective is that theres gear at every price range for everyone! but same as the stigma for linux "bult for nerds, hackers and IT managers" people think they have to give up their first born and organs to get "somthing worth the while"
@@deadchannel408 trust me you can get cheaper international industrial wood by the truck load, i think it was a nice touch that they decided to use local resources and materials for their more expensive higher end products (cheaper Meze products are not made in Romania)
@@kingcrazyrap5866 My guy, Romania is extremely cheap, if you get the usa minumum wage there, you live like a king and are able to buy an a apartment in 5 years without huge sacrifices.
black walnut isn't just local to Romania, it's actually a rather high end wood and is used in a lot of more expensive products. I live in the midwestern united states and we had the joy of getting some for helping clean up a fallen tree, and ended up making some really nice bowls out of it on the lathe. Wonderful wood, beautiful grain to it and solid enough to actually use.
Except this Shrek Green IPad case is special... it has a history... so it actually has some value... So it's like a historical toddle cup... or the original hamburger.... It's value comes from the history...
I love the symbiotic relationship you and meze have. They send you good stuff for free and you advertise them more than they possibly could by themselves.
So is the Sony XB 2022 model I have which also includes a hard case and is far cheaper 😂😂 these headphones are worse than beats headphones smh overpriced tat
@@conaldeugenepeterson2147 I'd compare them to a Pagani (which i think dank already did) Meze makes literal works of art, while still being with the best of the best in performance/audio quality
When a company is willing to just gift someone a product with no strings attached (not even pushing for a video to be made) that shows to me they have a LOT of confidence in their product. I respect that a lot o7
"looks like it's on the front of a supercar's... boutique wallet" basically summing up the entire vehicle fashion industry in one unrelated sentence, so good
It can't be overstated how much having decent equipment can make a student musician become obsessed with their craft. When I was in high school, I was selected to be the first user of a brand new Bach Strad trumpet the school's music department bought. It was so much better than the beginner trumpet I had been using since middle school, it was insane. Because of that trumpet, I went from liking music to being obsessed with getting better at trumpet to an almost unhealthy degree.
Yeah, that's pretty much most of their sales pitch, brand-wise... They're not famous for high fidelity audio quality, but they are famous for external design and comfort.
I'm an absolute sucker for Art Deco style (first video I saw on this channel was the FLAC player after it blew up). Meze really have some great taste in box design! Art Nouveau is wonderful too but it's hard to pull off
The 109 I feel is the redemption arc for Meze in the audiophile world. The original meze 55, 73, and 88 gave the company a bad rep since they were rebranded Chinese headphones, marked up an extra $100. The 99 was designed by meze, but made in china, and were often called the beats of audiophile headphones due to their massive, bloated bass shelf (this year they had a silent revision that fixed that) The empyrian and elite, while very beautiful, were moreso designed and made by Rinaro in Ukraine The 109 is the first fully in house, designed and built by Meze headphones, and it's a huge leap from where they started. It's great to see a company change and improve so much in a short time
Yep! New pieces of equipment for a student could be what makes them obsess! I played on a plastic Accent clarinet from 5th grade until about 8th grade. I got a scholarship to Interlochen’s summer camp in 2013 and my mom had to get me a better clarinet- a Buffet E11. That place got me into jazz clarinet, and I immediately learned how to do glissando’s, and how to do the rhythm of jazz. I eventually asked my mom to get me a tenor sax so I can join Jazz Band in 2013’s school year (which is now ruined due to my apartment leaking on it and making it moldy), and I learned it so SO fast! I even learned how to play flute because of the GRP Allstate Bigband from the 90’s! Didn’t know jazz flute was a thing. I don’t play much anymore, but God do I want to play my tenor again. Now, I’m getting into music production. My first song was horrible, and the last song I made until my laptop broke (I was going through hell when I BROKE IT) and it was leagues better. I love music because my mom actually listened to my band teachers saying, “He’s actually really good. He learns so fast!”
Clarinet gang represent. I went from a Bundy to a Buffet R13, band director got it for me at cost, got to audition a lot of nice horns, I didn't think they let high school students do that. And yeah, it led me down a garden path to a season in drum corps (mello), and eventually just using the instrument I was born with and doing opera. Wow, coulda saved some money!
I can agree with this. Practicing on a cheap student guitar didn't make me feel enthusiastic as a teenager so I stopped learning. I recently decided I wanted to learn again and picked up a second hand Fender Telecaster and have been enjoying practice a lot more.
My brother took a class on something to do with music or something and they let him use a pair of reference headphones. He loved them. I feel like it would have benefitted him to let him keep them.
@@AtomSquirrel That's why I'm trying to get some better headphones than the beans I have. Not to mention, they don't work with my current laptop, as it's a 10 year old laptop that doesn't have bluetooth anyways. Plus, the delay KILLS ME when I'm in FL Studio.
I bought a pair of 99 classics because you reviewed the Elite and Empyrean. They are my favourite headphones hands down, and the only upgrade i hope to make someday is to the aforementioned Empyreans. I like warm sound signatures and the fit and finish from Meze is unparalleled. I also got great support asking for bigger earpad advice. Fit, finish, and audio quality, I don't think you can beat them.
I got the 99 Neos when they were on sale and they're amazing... but admittedly I've grown accustomed to the huh duh six hungeos that I bought afterwards. Nothing wrong with "warm" sound, but I really do prefer a neutral "reference" sound.
Watching this channel back during the pandemic inspired me to pick up the drums again. Then it got me interested in headphones, I got a good pair, and heard the drums clearer in so many songs. I've played the drums nearly everyday since then. Thank you.
@@AbiRizky we have some things that we can be proud of, one of the safest countries, lowest gun owner rate in whole of Europe, highest home ownership rate in the world, great cuisine, beautiful latin language, music, and country, but Romania is not promoted and not many people know about us.
I've got the cheaper 99 neos as my first pair of "better quality" heaphones. I found them from your channel and have been pretty happy with them. Love seeing the Meze reviews. They sure do produce some sexy headphones.
i had the absolute pleasure of trying these at the london canjam in 2022. they blew me away. best headphones at the show. there was a queue to try them, and there was a just as long queue when i took them off. top tier cans for sure.
I never thought much about music until I found your channel, but after being convinced to buy myself a pair of Mezes after a big milestone, it's completely changed my relationship with music. You're so right that having beautiful things can be the difference between being passionate or not
Since I turned around 16 I suddenly began listening to a lot more music than I used to, from almost nothing to 3-4 hours a day. Over the first proper Covid lockdown here in the U.K. I used some of my left over student loan which I’d saved up and bought myself a pair of Beyerdynamic 1990 Pros. It was the best money I’ve ever spent. They blew me away at the time and I still get surprised by their quality and n a regular basis. That year, with lockdown ruining my experience at university and generally making me miserable, those headphones really fanned the flames for my passion for music and I ended up averaging 8 hours, 30 minutes a day of listening to music on Spotify. Really changed my relationship with music and forged me some really good habits I still have now.
No matter what content you put out I always enjoy it, from crappy Dingus Nuggets, or top of the range Headphones. My weekend is always complete after watching DankPods 😁💞😘
@@dragonshinobi8720 Hey, as long as it sounds good to you that's all that matters. I was thinking of getting the same stack but went with the K7 for the time being. It should be in tomorrow. I tried to get away with using my ES100 with the 109 and I could tell it wasn't up to the task. I did get some hints of what it can do, I can't wait until it has halfway decent amplification.
Ok I am just getting into the audio world so this might be a dumb question. Is there a reason why a headphone can't have a removable back so they can be closed back when you want and open back when you want ? I am sure there is one but I am not sure what to look up. Also why aren't there many planar magnetic speakers ? I have looked and I can't find any maybe they exist, are Planar magnetic drivers to expensive to scale up into a speaker form factor.
I’m not certain but I think it’s because it would be really hard to make it sound good both ways, and that would be mostly a thing for the people that want it to sound good
I got the Meze 99 classics because of the recommendation from here. Other than the fact that they look good, sound good, and feel good, the hard case is such a nice thing to have. It’s great being able to travel with them and use them on a plane then just shove them in my backpack when I’m done.
If you want the warm sound for a bit cheaper, you can try the best of the 600 series, the 660S2. It’s a good choice and it’s $500 instead of $800 and you get the HD 600 mid-range and they did give the appearance a refresh compared to the 660S1 and especially the 600. You sadly don’t get a hard case, but they can be found for cheap because the basic design has stayed the same for so long. You still get a 4.4mm balanced cable and I prefer the rubberized feel to the braided cables you showed. People complain that the cable is too short (1.8m instead of 3.0m, though I think 1.8m is almost too long).
i wouldn’t even say not to make music with them, you just have to mix with their specific color in mind. listen to a lot of reference tracks and you’ll get a pretty good idea of what your project “should” sound like. just… remember to give it a couple listens in the car before publishing, yeah?
listening through my good in-ears i can easily say: they are incredible! i frikin love the sound and bass they combine, with some eq. settings they are amazing. my poor ass is crying right now XD
I love how you brought up the Meze Elite's, and how their case is made for travelling to prevent damage, when we all know that within 10 seconds, Max and Chad managed to put a dent into them. Love your content dude xD
THIS is a beautiful design. Unlike that god-awful abomination from apple you showcased before. Seriously, seeing them scared me, the awfulness was burned into my retinas, they literally look like cheap bootleg crap - it's actively annoying simply looking at them, even before knowing that they're from apple and therefore expensive beyond what you would think impossible without any context.
I'd recommend checking out Meze's authorized dealers during a shopping holiday (such as Black Friday) as their headphones do go on sale from time to time.
So stoked that you made a video of these. As soon as they were announced I had them in my cart and was sitting on them waiting to hear how they sound, and they seem like they will be perfect. Cheers for the vids bud, you're a legend.
@Madao in the later half of 2022, around when the 109 was released, the 99 had a silent update which sealed the rear of the cup better. That reduced the amount of midbass bloat the 99 has on new models
@@MyouKyuubi idk what you mean by measurement but i dont think its really that important to me lol. I just needed a pair of good headphones that didnt hurt the top of my head after 20 minutes like my last ones and they sound great for my standards
I've been daily driving my 99 classics since not too long after I saw your video on them and I couldn't be happier. They feel so good and like you mentioned here gave me a reason to listen to music, made me want to re-listen to stuff just to see how it felt.
im trying to find his review about the 99 classics but cant seem to find it, do you perhaps remember the title? maybe he just deleted it for some reason
I was inspired by your a few months ago to get the Crusher Evos. That was a big buy at 200 freedom eagles. I was AMAZED at how good they sounded (base slider at the bottom) and it almost brought me to tears, I remember thinking about how I was hearing sounds in some of my favorite songs I'd never heard before.
I bought a pair of 99 Classics because of your video, and I'm currently listening to your video with them ! They're truly amazing, I love Meze since then. And the "WOW" factor is insane, in one and a half year almost 20 people talked to me about them, they're truly beautiful.
Thing that impressed me the most was how premium Meze stuff feels. I am a "sound first" guy, but these were so comfy and nice I don't care that they aren't competitive sound wise. I like the idea of having a nice sounding headphone that feels good rather than the best sounding headphone I can get, but feels like crap to hold.
I've been privileged to be able to watch your videos out of pure enjoyment and not need them to get through tough shit, but after my gf of 5 years just broke up with me, I'm really glad to see you've uploaded. You're doing great things.
3:00 I'm currently rocking a 58x and btr5 because of you Dankpods! Been well over a year with both and I'm extremely satisfied, way better than my gamer headphones
Im majoring in electrical engineering soon, and as someone whos been trying to sing and mix music since being a teenager (and failing), youre really making me want to dig into audio engineering during uni :) waves in EE are just fourier series anyway (I was a teenager until 11 years ago lol)
"listening to a lot of music is very healthy" me omw to listen to things that most people consider noise (hard edm) and permanently damage my hearing ability in the process
Why do these have a carry case, lol, as if I'd wear _these_ on the train Also, I know u've tried the 99 Classics- how is the bass bleed? I've heard reports (including from you) that they are really bassy. Da'am, I wish I had the budget for one of THESE though...
The 99 had a silent update to the internal joint between the cups and the headband which sealed the cups better from air leaks. This tightens up the bass a bit so it has a little less midbass energy than before with the massive bass bleed
I know RU-vid compresses the hell out of the audio but I can definitely hear the difference with my own Bose 700's on, super warm and sorta cozy sounding
freaking LOVE meze, always stoked to see a review by them. Their 99 Classics were a steep price-point for me, but I've had them for a year and a half and I still have this big dumb grin on my face, every time I discover new music with them. And like you say, just chuck em in a bag. Amazing.
You should speak to Meze about having them fly you out to talk about their process and their philosophy when it comes to sound quality and the ability to repair their products. I think it would make a really fun video!
you should make a video going over a bunch of your favorite songs to listen to with good headphones. Like the really wide, and really good bass, high dynamic range and such.
I have been enjoying the meze 99 neo's for the past 2 years and mate, I'm hooked. I did get the grado's Sr80e's on the side, but the fact that you can drag them with ya and drag them over ya greasy head is just amazing. For 200€ they're the best entry headpehonies imo
