The MG4 - Tech Focused Review 

Finally a review that gives a more in-depth look in the (battery)-tech, and too bad we can't choose a battery pack separately from the car-level (like choosing the Luxe version with a smaller battery). I've been in favour of LFP batteries ever since I started reading up on it, primarily because of the safety of this type, but also because of the longevity. Downside to LFP batteries is that they're a bit more sensitive to temperatures, meaning that you might lose a bigger percentage in range during cold days… but if it lasts 2-4x as long before degradation starts becoming noticeable it's a very small price to pay compared to all the benefits LFP offers.

Great video luke and great to see that you can buy the top specification trophy / exclusive with the lfp battery. Something we can't do in UK and Ireland. I can't wait until I'm back in Malta someday and joining an mg4 at cirkewwa to head to gozo on the ferry

It’s great that MG are serving all the RHD markets in Europe 👍 In the UK you can only get the LFP battery on the standard spec MG4, if you want all the toys then you have to have the big NCM battery. I know in other markets they offer the top spec with the LFP battery, do you have that option in Malta?

Thanks for this review,it was so interesting and different from all those other reviews out there. I’m new to the world of EV’s and ordered an MG4 with 50kw batterie and I’m glad I did since I learned now that it’s an LFP.

Very useful info regarding the battery chemistry; that'll be a very strong factor when I finally choose to replace my trusty old 2012 Leaf.

Good review. You saved me from a big mistake. I need range for the long trips I routinely do, but the NCM battery is a non starter.

This car deserves a better multimedia screen. Preferably larger, but at least it should be a little bit more responsive. The should also redesign the instrument cluster so that the corners resemble the corners of the multimedia system. Yes, that is a minor point. But from what I've seen of this car so far it is quite good so you have to be a bit picky.

Iam so glad i found your video. Thanks for a lot of clarification of many worries i have. I did get a Preview-Car over the Weekend but it has the small Combination (170hp/51kwh) or "Standard" Version here in Germany. Because i love the "Split-Wing" on the Back with Glas Roof i consider to take the Luxury-Version with 204hp/64kwh but its a lot expensiver than the Preview-Car especially i could get a discount for the small mileage on the "Standard"-Version. i think i take the "standard"-Version and with the Budget i have left over i find a way to bolt the "Split-Wing" on it.... maybe get it a bit lower and put on some cool new Shoes. The LFP battery also can be charged to 100% every time without damaging the battery giving some extra daily range. That being said, I still choose the model with the NCM battery for the higher safety and comfort features.

Great review! Anyone knows if the Cupra Born battery is LFP or NCM pls? On specs it says Li-ion battery type…

Very nice review (this and the driving video). Thouh I'm wondering, when you compared the two battery packs, did you weigh in the techs that the car with the bigger battery pack has? Like battery heater and the grill that can open for cooling. I admit I might be looking for reasons to justify me buying the luxury version (that's how the one with the bigger battery pack is called here in the Netherlands)

The driving range is a bit of a vexed question. It depends on the type of driving you do on the highway. for example you can reduce that figure by 30%. That’s from Personal experience.

Best review on this car by a long way. I much prefer the Trophy trim but it's only available with the long range larger NCM battery which seems to be less desirable. I am not a high mileage driver (about 10,000 km per year) mainly modest local trips. Not sure!

Thank you for your excellent review. However, one wish... Please leave that unnecessary background sound away - to native English speakers it may well be just irritating but to us, to whom English is not our first language, it actually makes listening tiresome. At 10.40 it is at its worst, no way to call it music. But the review is great!

There is speculation of 500 plus km range with Catl Qilin battery options soon. Do you know chemistry of this battery. Is this the larger battery you menton in this video. Like you, I prefer LFP. I have heard Catl has developed a more dence LFP with another material, I think manganese.

How much in Malta ? In Ireland the SE/excite. Is €31600 LR ncm

LFP battrij is very sensitieve in Cold whether..

Problem is LFP are for the moment limited in capacity, that's the reason the 64kw is not LFP

Pity it didnt mentioned the long range 77kw model

Great to hear information about battery chemistry. I was previously under the impression that the LIF battery's were not as good in colder climate, so good to to have this new information.

Are teslas very expensive in the EU? In America a rwd model 3 is about $36k USD after rebate.
