I really hope one of these companies starts to offer cars like this in the UK as it would create so much more space in town centres everywhere! Perfect for bumbling around locally!
@Mackdez
@Mackdez 2 года назад
Same thing you said but for America I live in Philly so it'd be perfect for me here where space is a premium, and pretty much just me and my mom or my sister. Probably wouldn't charge it but once every two weeks
@Tore_Lund

If the usual size EV emits 2/3 to half that of a gasoline car, a small EV like this emits 1/6 to 1/4, so it is worth double in reductions of a standard size EV! Also charging is not free, so just paying half to get around is welcomed.
@briangriffiths114
@briangriffiths114 2 года назад
These smaller EVs are probably all that most people would need, particularly if they commute locally and have a driveway. Charging from home is like having your own private petrol pump and removes all concerns about queues and shortages at the local filling station, as is presently the case in many parts of the UK.
@minhdinh4802
@minhdinh4802 2 года назад
Completely agree with you. I live and work near the city so don't need much more than a mini EV. Plus charging from home being like having your own petrol pump would be a major plus. Hopefully more people see these types of benefits.

The Chery QQ Ice cream would be well suited for my commute and running around. When I was younger and broke, I needed a basic, cheap car to get around in. I didn't care about performance (I had the 3 cylinder/1 liter Geo Metro). Fingers crossed they market this in the U.S.A. 🙂

l live in Australia and would love to have a small affordable EV like this. I would still keep a petrol car for ocassional weekend getaways. But for my day to day work driving to the city or for shopping, this would be perfect for me. I don't need long range as I would charge the car in my garage when I return home from work.

There is a new cool mini EV coming up very soon. Introducing Chang'An Lumin, which looks like a mix of Mini cooper and Wuling Hongguang. Meanwhile, the latest version of Wuling Mini EV is called Gameboy edition, with slightly longer wheelbases, larger sizes and bigger motor, as well as far greater customisation options. The Gameboy edition is targeted at young male customers. The Macaron edition of Wuling Mini EV is targeted at young female customers. There will also be a Cabrio version of Wuling Mini EV, due to debut at Shanghai Auto Show this year.

You're kinda missing the point of the big expensive electric cars. The purpose of the expensive cars is to get rich people to pay for the scaling of the new technologies, so that eventually technology prices drop and we will all get a ~$20,000nzd new electric car option. Also those Chinese cars don't have much of the safety features required in western countries, so unfair not to mention that when talking about the price. So maybe double price to be road legal. It's the same as, I could have bought a 8k television in 2013 for about a million bucks. At least half that now!
@Ausf
@Ausf 2 года назад
No, you're missing the point. They're there to make as much money as possible, while also forcing people that might ordinarily pay less, but want EVs for ideological reasons, to spend more. We can already make cars for half $20k if we wanted to, but why make razor thin margins when you can milk the population for all it's worth?

The problem is simple, it maybe 3 and a half grand in China but the same car in the UK would probably end up closer to 10 grand or more. That seems to be the way thing work in the UK, unless you bought it direct and then you would just be looking at a huge import duty bill and months maybe even years of waiting for it to clear customs, so by the time you get it, the batteries would be damaged beyond repair and you would have a huge customs and storage charge. So don't expect to see these en-mass in the UK any time soon, unless an importer gets involved but even then you would not be looking at 3.5 grand more like 10 grand I order to make a profit.

THANK YOU ! You gave me a Great Laugh and that's worth it's weight in gold ! If I could get a QQ or Mini-EV it would be in my driveway NOW ! I suspect, that like yourself, a great many of us would buy these, worldwide. Ciotreon AMI has proven one thing, that Europe WANTS THEM and I imagine if they'd be available elsewhere they may have marketspace too (albiet the AMI is less than a QQ or Mini-EV spec wise). To be perfectly honest, The Mini-EV or even the QQ could very well become the VW Bug of the 21st century, just like the original Bug was a massive hit at the end of the 60's. There is one wee gotcha with these. They may be perfect for an Urban World / high density regions where range is not an issue in general. I myself am in Canada, pretty rural & remote (closest village is 50km away) but IF these were available with 200KM (real range) that would be the ticket. North American Protectionism and the entire Anti-China pseudo racist crud will keep these at bay, Bling Filled, Land Yaghts must be protected at all costs right.

Hmmm, interesting video. Perhaps it might be good to look at other markets and what type of small cars are popular. One good example is the Kei car in Japan. It’s not a brand by a very small but very practical design of car. A Kei car conforms to government regulations and benefits for reduced taxes and charges etc. These cars have a maximum engine size of 550 cc and are very cheap to run. There is lot more to Kei cars than I can describe here. Suffice to say they sold in very large numbers in Japan and could easily be sold into other markets if the addiction to driving very large cars could be overcome. As for the Cherry, a very small city EV has some appeal. Remember the Smart car ? It’s still around and the first model released was tiny. A final comment about safety and crash testing. A minimum level of safety must be provided by any cars’ design. How safe is the Cherry?

Smart for two was discontinued in the U.S., apparently because Mercedes thought there was no market for it. It was a lot more expensive than this, but price aside, most Americans seem to feel uncomfortable in that small of a car. To get to the city here you must drive on the highway, and when the semi-tractor's are passing you and their tires are taller than your car it does make you think. Also, people complain about the Nissan Leaf's 100 mile range, so that would be a problem here to (Even though 90% of people drive less than 40 miles per day). Conditions are different in China. Millions drive E-scooters there. Here people willing to drive on two wheels want a motorcycle. A small car is still better (and safer) than a scooter, but here it is seen as a step back. Elon is right that most people will only buy something new if it is better AND cheaper. If it is only better then it must be much better. If it is only cheaper then it must be much cheaper, which the Cherry EV is, but is it desirable enough people would want it? Most Americans will think it is dangerous to drive on the roads here. Perhaps the conditions in Europe are different.
