Do microbes ever feel fear? Or concern? Or trepidation? While they can’t exactly tell us, they probably don’t- at least not in ways that we could understand. But we can tell that they definitely experience stress.

I was told in microbiology class: "everything is everywhere, the environment decides what's common"

I’d say doctors and scientists egos decide what’s common by agreeing or refusing to evaluate possibilities beyond their comfort zone. But I like your quote!

Question! In that cyst / spore form - do the microorganisms change their place in the foodchain? Would things normally trying to eat them still be attracted to eat this condensed, liminal forms? Or do they lose interest, because the cells are not perceived as food source / alive anymore?

Ditto! And sample vials, preservatives, stains, on and on. Then I realized that just as much as I have reason to delve into microorganisms, very large organisms should be included in my focus of concern. If we watch the environment around us patiently and open minded lay enough, we see things we otherwise wouldn’t. I zoom in under the scope and in photos, but zoom out when observing what’s around me. I look up as much as down. I do experiments to try to disprove some of the things I’ve observed on the macro scale, but I usually end up shocked at how terrifyingly I prove myself right. In and out of the box. Big and small. There’s so much more to see now than there used to be!

I heard a story about a man who got very sick from a rare microbial infection that was traced to a bucket of rainwater mixed with house paint. He had merely wiped his hands and tools with the dilution that had sat out for some days. Apparently there's something awful that thrives in that paintwater, the person infected was comatose for a long time, they became a noted case due to amnesia suffered from the coma.

I wonder if there is a class of microbes whose primary hunting strategy is targeting encysted microbes. Cystophagic, if you will.
@bagfootbandit8745
@bagfootbandit8745 Год назад
I imagine maybe, but it might be rarer than one might think, considering the environment that triggers the cysts is an inhospitable one. Whatever hunts the cysts would potentially be just as susceptible.

Hey, I recently heard about political topic in USA, but I heard one completely unrelated thing mentioned offhandedly is that people put up destruction of swamps as a good thing. Manifest Destiny 2.0. This place was shit and now we turned it into a paradise. Stuff like that. I know that things aren't fast, but can we get some more swamp love on this channel? They aren't pretty and they often don't smell nice, but that's why it is a good idea not to move into one... But ecologically? Scientifically? Climate-wise? Heck, even from fully pragmatic point of view, I'm pretty sure swamps can be interesting for medicinal reasons.
