By technicality electricity, manual machines, and tools are all a part of evolution. Prototypes are basically mutations and the one that works best, is usually used. We have been playing god for millennium
While Percy was the one to develop microwaves as a product to sell, the first microwave was created by a British scientist to evenly reheat hamsters trying to bring them back to life after being frozen. Tom Scott is the one who found the research and interviewed the scientist.
I am pretty sure in the video Tom says that the British scientist did not invent the microwave, but he did make quite the weird test with it, didn't he though? There's been some time since I've watched that video.
Side Note. He was a “Self Taught” engineer which makes it all the more impressive. Even if it’s an accident. Everyone should strive to create and innovate , find a passion and stick to it. This is the product of exactly that.
I like how he called it a radarange even though it uses a different type of wave, they then changed it to an even more incorrect name “microwave” even though they have a super long wavelength
A small correction Water molecules dont bump into each other Since microwave creates alternating waves This causes the 2 hydrogen molecules to rub against the oxygen causing heat due to friction
It was a little more sinister than that. The reason it became used for food was because a scientist, James Lovelock, first used an early version of the microwave to try warm and re animate cryogenically frozen hamsters. It was in an effort to see if cryogenics could keep something alive. Only a hand full of hamsters actually made it, but we sorta find out it was good at warming frozen stuff lmao
This is only part of the story. The radar systems used by fighter jets and airplanes where what originally made "microwaves", but after pilots where found burned to death, it was realized that the waves generated lethal heat and where abruptly removed from all planes containing them.
Well, that was close, the microwaves act as energy "exciting" the electrons in the water and among them move to outer rings of the atom directly heating it up when the electrons fall back down into their original rings. They do begin to move but that's due to heat not microwaves, the energy is not friction based tho
