The reason it became used for food was because a scientist, James Lovelock, first used an early version of the microwave to try warm and re animate cryogenically frozen hamsters. It was in an effort to see if cryogenics could keep something alive. Only a hand full of hamsters actually made it, but we sorta find out it was good at warming frozen stuff lmao
