I'm glad he's still the voice of the show. I don't care for the upbeat generic rock music, though. I liked it when it was just silent except the narration and the car.
Im a local Maryland man that started watching this on MPT, my uncle Larry Wyatt usesed to work @ mpt am weather and MotorWeek.. been watching since I was a young kid
Seventy six years old and still working. God bless him. Motor Week will be forty years old next week. John Davis founded the program at 37 years old and has hosted it continuously ever since. He's the Bob Barker of automotive journalism.
Good review, great car. Please, though, ease up on the slasher background music. It got annoying in about five seconds, particularly when one is trying to listen to the review and engine note.
Nice review but that constant ‘music’ in the background is most annoying. They seem to do that on most car tv shows, WHY? I want to listen to the person talking and hear the engine sound.
Crazy I remember watching John Davis on tv when I was 10yrs old and he's still goin strong. Great to see him presenting the C8 Corvette all these yrs later. Hopefully he's got 20 more yrs in him before he retires..lol.
A bit clumsy in the rear end design but for a 1st shot attempt it's just beautiful, I wish I spent my money more wisely in the last 3 years. I'd get this in a second !
@WSC II Thanks for the kind words, I guess we all learn the hard way at one point or another, women can and do take everything from some men, sadly now I've joined those ranks. I got a lesson for the rest of my life from that. But definitely looking towards the better days coming like you said, I still have the trusty Camaro when I get an urge for some speed, just not the same league of speed. You take care, stay well.
I bought my first Corvette in 2013 it was a C6, followed by a C7 Z51, then C7 Z06, a whim C3. I've had quite a few sports cars and different brands. Corevette is the most fun and issue free ride of them all. My C8 will be arriving soon👍🏾
Take notes Acura, this is how you build a usable mid engine supercar at surprisingly attainable prices.. Impressive feat with this one GM, hat's off, J-spec fan saying this.
A RU-vidr has done 0 to 60mph in 2.7 seconds for a base level Corvette. This mid engine supercar has no equal. No other manufacturer could produce a car like this for the money..fantastic.
Someday this review will be in the Retro Review playlist and John Davis will still be hosting this awesome automotive programme. He is truly a living legend.
@@pontiacGXPfan so I guess the Vette should still be a 6 cylinder ? Because that was the first vette. It's called change, either go with it or be left behind.
@@UvidCo if that's horseshit turns out to be true that why hasn't the Mustang had to change? it's still the same ugly fake retro garbage it was when Ford came out with it.
With the exception of this video, I always loved watching the road test of MotorWeek, filmed in my backyard, through the farm lands of northern Maryland. Many of those same roads that I've driven on with recognizable landmarks.
Other than the 63 split window and up till 69, I never really liked them. Although they had some c8s at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale AZ a couple of months ago, and am really impressed with this one
Finally, people who understand the benefits of mid-engine geometry, and understand that the Corvette has been mid-engine for decades. If the center of mass of the engine rests between the axle lines, it's mid-engine, and the Vette has been this for a very, very long time. Open the hood of a C7, for instance. There's a reason the engine is so far back into the firewall. Perhaps more importantly, the switch to mid-rear engine for the C8 wasn't for traction purposes. Matt Farah and Doug Demuro laughably don't understand this. I'll offer a clue, in case somebody wants to fill in the RU-vidrs: polar moment of inertia. When mass is distributed out toward the end, it's harder to induce turning. When mass is concentrated at the center, turning is much, much easier. So, the reason the C8 is now mid-engine, even though it was before, too: to improve handling. Not traction. The traction bonus is just that, a bonus. It's frustrating to hear these massively popular RU-vidrs guess, and guess wrong, and just repeat what other RU-vidrs say, like a troupe of uneducated parrots all chirping the same nonsense. It's refreshing to come here to see people who actually know what they're doing. My hat is off to y'all.
The last 2 Grand Sports were excellent cars! Given the cooling and other track-day issues of the C7 Z06, I'd personally rather a Grand Sport C7. The C8 Grand Sport will be killer!
@@ttamcc.4674 One thing i dont like about C6 ZR1's is that they were smaller than any other Vette during that time. Small when it came to length and wheelbase. That was something that i thought was cool as kid but now.. I dont wanna feel like im driving a Miata when im supposed to be driving a Vette. The LS9 is still an engine that i digg tho.
I can guarantee you Edelbrock already has the specs for this engine and they are already building a supercharger for it. By the end of this year someone is going to have one of these superchargers and it's going to be cranking out about 720 horsepower.
Such a shame that it lost this long hood. I much prefer the C7 as I've never been a fan of this kind of design (that the C8 has). Only thing I found pretty bad about the C7 was its tail lights.
Alot of y'all fail to realize that a Corvette Rear Mid-Engine been in the works since the 1960s....but that has been falling through for decades however
I’m not a gm fan but man do I love corvettes especially the new mid engine c8 corvette, this and the Cadillac sedans are probably the only gm products I actually wouldn’t mind buying that’s if I had the cash but anyway gm did an awesome job with the c8 corvette 👍
Didn't Chevy try a mid engine car before Oh yeah the Fiero witch had over heating and electric issues i hope they learn from their mistakes nice looking car
Seriously, MotorWeek: the car has been out for two years now, and STILL no instrumented performance data??? Every other mag out there managed to get it, why can't you?
First review I've seen that acknowledges the C6/C7 as mid-engine cars. The change isn't as radical as people think. But the marketing team is having a blast with it.
@@theranter 2 half trunks are not the same as one big one. The bigger trunk is useless when the roof panel is sitting in it and the small trunk is even more useless because it's barely big enough for a bookbag
I prefer the more traditional look of the long hood front engines sports car but the side and front view of this car is nice, the back is a mess though.
This Chevrolet is literally more luxurious than products from Premium Luxury brands/marques. Y’all need to put some respect on GM’s name!! What an American beauty this car is.🔥
Good reviews continue for this long running show. However the music has become distracting. Note to post production editors - lower the volume of the music, it is near equal to John's voice-over.
If the base car travels 0-60 in 2.9 sec, where do they go from there? How much faster could a Z06 or ZR1 car possibly be before they hit peak acceleration? Can they get under 2 seconds?
@@msw7021 I am relaxed, I'm just being realistic and so should you. Anyone else that prefers to think nothing is wrong is stupid. Ignorance is not bliss, it's dangerous, and things like new car toys shouldn't be the center of people's lives anymore.
