My first kid was born this year, a beautiful baby girl. This song hit me in a whole different way. I know one day other kids are going to be mean to her, and I'm going to play her this song. Such an incredible rendition.

i bought this Jimmy Eat World album a couple weeks before 9/11. They pulled it and re-released it under a different name because the original title was "Bleed American." Was in NYC in July 2001 thanks to String Cheese Incident tour bringing me to Central Park, spent the next day getting hammered off a jug of Carlo Rossi in Battery Park with some tour friends, Twin Towers in the background. We were so innocent and careless, started college a month later. Then, everything changed. I loved this album then and I love hearing such an amazing cover now, at 40. It always brings me back to those final days of The Old World when I was just a kid and life hadn't happened yet. Beautiful cover.

My respect to Jimmy Eat World but i never heard the original song. For me this is a situation like Johnny Cash and NIN ~ the cover got to me first and i am so emotional every time i lisen to the cover. i am crying. this is so beautyfull. thank you

Really good cover. Perfect performance and engineering. It also really hit home tonight with all of the shit I have have gone through in the last year. Also, I think her voice should be used in more pieces with the sound she has. It is really full for piano dynamics and has no airiness or poor enunciation. She is an great singer!

It's interesting how arrangement can just shift the meaning of the song. I feel from the original, to be yourself and do your best comes from a place of anger while this version comes from a place of sympathy/empathy.
