Michigan and Wisconsin are my two favorite Midwest states. Lost a good memories there.

As a non American I had to wonder why Ohio was a mid west state when it's clearly on the north eastern side of the country , so then I read about the Louisiana purchase . Looking at a modern map , if I were asked to point out mid west states , I would have said Wyoming , South Dakota , Colorado , Nebraska , Kansas and maybe Oklahoma . So I have learned something today :-)

No..Michigan roads suck because taxes are not be used for them. Michigan has become a welfare state, minus the welfare.

I am from Michigan and I love my state! The road construction is ridiculous, and there are areas to avoid. Upper Peninsula Michigan is amazing, and the whole state offers tons of beautiful scenery. I love nature and Michigan has tons of forests, lakes, and beaches. There are a lot of activities to enjoy all throughout the year, making each season feel special. I definitely recommend visiting any time of the year, there is always something fun to do, and something beautiful to see!

I enjoy the midwest (Cleveland at the moment) for its architecture, low cost of living, tons of freight trains, industrial, museums, some really amazing metro parks, different nationalities, and overall character. It does have a decent amount of crime but i have managed to avoid any issues by simply being home at a reasonable time and not trotting through the rough areas.

Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Missouri have some pure Midwest culture except for the Ozark region as well as the Bootheel in Missouri which has more of a southern culture.

I love these videos but as a life-long (56 yrs) resident of southern Missouri I have to say, we DO NOT call it Missour'a' and in fact we find it very irritating when people do. And don't judge the whole state by St. Louis and Kansas City. The Ozarks, where I live, are beautiful. Rolling hills, forest, multiple lakes and rivers. I travel for a living and I have seen the world. Yes, I would rather live near the ocean or mountains, but Missouri isn't the worst place to live, not even in the Midwest (thousands of miles of flat cornfields in most of the states).

Actually today my city in Indiana beats Gary in crime down here on the border of Kentucky. We’ve held the following titles: Meth capital of the nation/Midwest Most depressed city in the US Most number of adolescent depression and suicides Highest number of divorces Most obese city in the nation Highest crime in the state now However, we have the highest job market. Medical, car manufacturing and banking. Everyone always has a job. We’ve never really suffered job issues, even during bad times. Great healthcare second to Indianapolis. Our hospitals rank 2 and 3rd in the nation. And we have lots of them. Hey maybe you should do worst Midwest cities. 😂 Btw, we don’t go-for cover for a tornado until it gets a block away. We actually stand outside and watch.

Nice reference to Benton Harbor, MI. I grew up not far from there. I live in Detroit now and I love it. A lot of people will always bash Detroit but it's a good place to be now. Some things in Michigan do suck, but we have beautiful beaches and so many great lakes. You can't beat watching a sunset on Lake Michigan.

I grew up in northwest lower Michigan. It is beautiful there, and I am glad I grew up in small towns. Take away Detroit, Flint, and other troubled areas and it’s a great place to live.

Although Indiana’s crime rate is on the rise, thanks east side of Indy, pretty sure we’re not at Chicago’s level yet. Personally I think Illinois should replace Indiana. Not saying Indiana is perfect, just saying.

My town in Indiana is pretty quiet and pretty bright! We are surrounded by Gary, East Chicago, and etc.

Michigan is actually not that bad. Yes, the roads are bad and yes there are some cities that are bad, but every state has their good and bad parts. I love living in Michigan besides in the winter. I love going to northern Michigan and seeing the scenery.

Minnesotan here. Was driving through Nebraska a couple months ago. Wind was so strong the hood of my car popped up and I lost count of all the towns without gas stations. But hey, they have a rodeo

Michigan is such a weird state. It's like being in the twilight zone. Just driving around Southeastern Michigan you can go from slums to white suburbia to actually decent areas driving down the same road. And don't even get me started on the weather.

I know every region has their own pronunciation of Olathe but in Kansas they pronounce it Olay-THUH. At least there are like two pronunciations plus the original Native pronunciation compared to the millions of ways to pronounce Louisville though. 🤣🤣 Sincerely former KCK resident

As a native born Chicagoan, anywhere in southern Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois are nice places. I've been through Kansas and love the openness of the vast rural areas while southern Missouri is more dense in forestry versus the north. Michigan is my favorite state, but only in the summer and like Wisconsin/Minnesota/Iowa gives me the chills in the winter. Chicago has great beaches after they've thawed - usually sometime in early May. I can only tolerate seeing three months of the same old dirty snow so I'm glad to now be living somewhere slightly north of the 37th parallel in a Twilight Zone called Centralia. Community Colleges... yeah. I went to one in California, then, when I moved to Minnesota, I realized the classes in Minnesota High Schools were higher in quality and achievement than California Community Colleges... ugh! At least for now...

So, oddly, I watched a very similar vid earlier about which states have the most "sealed indictments" (for organized crime prosecution). The "top 3" states you gave have 0-50. The bottom 5 you listed are in the top tier (and NC is in the next tier, still pretty high, split into sections) The DEMOGRAPHICS behind organized crime tend to revolve around known bootleg highways, the I-95 Corridor being PROMINENT in that calculation. Its fairly intriguing to add the location of known "trafficking highways" into your State/ County / City calculus. The History of the Ohio River Valley (bootleg route) dates back to the 1500's when they were shipping textiles and Bourbon down the Ohio to the Mississippi. That history explains ALOT about the Prohibition Bootleg Route to Kentucky, Al Capone, the river boats, the indian raids, etc. Rally Races currently take place along this route (also not mentioned in your summary) of classic American made cars that run on NITROUS. Considering the Kentucky Derby is this month, all of that seems fairly relevant. If you look at changes in the Census over 20 years, the I-95 Corridor is fairly shocking (Especially Pennsylvania). Some things you left out about Ohio : its a manufacturing hub of military hardware, such as TANKS (and their parts). Dayton is very close to Wright Patterson Base. You really did not say the main points about Ohio: no mention of the military industrial complex, no mention of the huge (high ranking) portion of jobs that are part of the Medical Manufacturing Industry (and Hospice Industry), both of which are considered "the workhorse" portions of the Economy (and resulting social institutions like Universities, etc). You also did not mention the INDIAN TERRITORIES which is something that makes all of the Midwest more interesting, generally. What about the Serpent Mound? Archeology? There are lakes literally everywhere in Michigan. I live next to a fairly small but still good size lake, and about a 5-minute drive down the road, there is another fairly good size lake. They are everywhere. I’ve heard you’re never more than 10 miles from a body of water here. Cant confirm that, but it seems plausible.

You are pretty accurate about Michigan. If it weren't for our rust belt cities and terrible political history on both sides of the aisle we would not even be on this list. Michigan is BEAUTIFUL with so much to see and do.

Branson, MO is lots of fun and safe for all ages. Lots of fun family attractions and things to see and do. And plenty for the oldsters too. Restaurants and attractions are very reasonable and people are nice and friendly.

Chillicothe being lacky in charm?! Dude, Chillicothe is known to have two major jobs (Kenworth and the paper mill), it was the first capital of Ohio, and historic downtown Chillicothe is pretty amazing.

Have you ever been to Indianapolis in the last 20 years?! It's one of the best capital cities in America. Walkable, interesting shops, attractions and great hotels and sports venues. You really missed the mark on this one, which undermines your overall credibility. Just sayin'.

I'm from Kansas and if anyone should be afraid of Tornados its us. I've been lucky enough to not be a victim of one but I've seen so much destruction and lives ruined. Its hard to not think that can happen to you and your family any givin day. That being said there is something beautiful about severe weather.

As someone who lives in Southeast Kansas I can confirm the drug problems as my neighbors on both sides of me are drug dealers and the ones before them are in jail because of drugs.

i went to missouri with my aunt one time to St. Louis and literally the first day i was there there was atleast 3 helicopters patrolling the skies for a high speed chase or something

I don't know which parts of Indy YOU were hanging out in - & I'm not saying that there aren't any "bleak" areas - but I've always found plenty to do there. If it's so bad, then why has the greater metro area - which includes Zionsville & Fishers, btw - been in a decade + long population boom?

I grew up near Dayton....I can confirm it's not a good city. It's up there in drug abuse and human trafficing. However, Dayton does have a great arts institute, as well as orchestras, dance, and theater. There are also a number of great national parks that are absolutely gorgeous. Hocking Hills and Old Man's Cave are some great spots. Ohio is also the most affordable state to live in, just saying.

As a "Saint Louisan" the crime is a statistical anomaly because "Saint Louis County" and "Saint Louis City" function as two separate entities. So when crime data comes out, it only accounts for the 66 square miles of city with the 300k+ people whom live there. They don't account for the region as a whole which would rank it way way down the list.

How can you have Missouri the worst state in the Mid West ? Just because of one city? St Louis is really just a suburb of Chicago and doesn't even belong in Missouri. They say soda, not pop, root for National League teams, oops ... never mind they lost their football team.... again !! Drink Busch instead of Bud, say "sharts" instead of shorts and eat Ted Drews ice cream instead of Dairy Queen. Have you ever tasted a White Castle sober?? Redirect the Mississippi River a few miles West, move the Arch to Kansas City where it historically should be and put St Louis in the state it belongs. That takes Missouri off your silly list and makes Illinois the worst state in the Mid West, which makes more sense. As far as trailer courts go, take a look out the back window of your own double wide. North Carolina is the king of trailers. They make them all there, last I checked.

While some states in tornado alley have the most tornadoes, they usually aren't the most powerful kind. Those tend to hit farther east in places like Indiana.

I will say, I grew up in indiana, and I definitely think that the placements here are pretty accurate. Michigan, while a beautiful state, has a lot of rough areas. Ohio is pretty boring overall, and I've never heard good things about Missouri from people that lived there. I grew up in goshen, which is definitely one of the better places to live in the state. The city is growing quite a bit, lots of factories are opening up there, so people move there for better paying jobs. Goshen is right next to elkhart and not far from south bend. Having spent time in both of those cities, I can definitely attest that there are a lot of rough parts to both cities. I also lived in muncie for a long while. Meth and corrupt government are huge problems for the city. It's also the only city I've had any real crime happen to me.

As someone that lives in Kansas no one cares about tornadoes, and also the weather is either nothing to worry about or really bad... NO in-between
