I respectfully disagree about it being metaphorical. I believe he uses the word 'train' to mean a procession of ladies. synonyms: procession, line, file, column, convoy, cavalcade, caravan, string, succession, trail "a train of elephants". I called genius simply because having performed literally hundreds of professional productions of the Mikado for different companies over quite a few years I had never seen an entrance on an actual train before. I like it, some don't, but given the strength of the production as a whole I think "idiot" is a little strong.
@@DancairoOpera I agree with your somewhat too respectful disagreement. The quality of the presentation combined with the whimsy of the train makes for a delightful performance, much the best I've seen so far on RU-vid.
