I live in Sydney Australia. I’m heading to Tasmania in July. Staying at Bruny Island. It’s going to be very dark. No moon. I can’t wait to see what I come up with. Just bought the Sony a6000. Very new to this but looking forward to the adventure awaiting.

Awesome!! If you can, I'd advise to get the sigma 16mm f1.4. that lens let's in so much light! A perfect lens for the a6000 series! Thanks for watching 😁👍

Great information Mike, and now I feel lucky to live in Southern California where ground comps with the MW core can be made Feb to October. I also thin the best time to go out is with a 20-30% crescent Moon setting 1-2 hours after the MW core rises. Does wonders for natural lighting.

Thanks so much! Most definitely, when you get a little moonlight lighting the foreground, it's amazing how much better a single image can look! Thanks for watching 😁👍

Haha! It's always a case of being ready for that one night of clear skies! We were down on the Coromandel Peninsula in 2017 and got really lucky for a few nights in Opoutre...you guys get some fantastic skies when it does all clear up! Thanks for watching 😁👍

My brother, cousin and friend are planning a hike/camping trip up north towards Tonopah next week on the 10 & 11. I just got the Sony A7III with the Samyang 14mm F2.8. I despise living in Las Vegas, NV. It's one of the most light polluted places on Earth. I have to drive at LEAST an hour to get away from the insane glow from it.

Big cities are definitely a star killer! I'm in Bangkok and have the same problem...we're just visiting the islands for the next new moon at the end of the week ... so I'm hoping for clear skies! The a7iii and Samyang 14mm is such a good setup. I only have 17mm at the widest end at the moment...really missing my 14mm. I hope you get some clear skies for your trip. 😁👍

Thank you for the great video, Mike. I just need to find a location that doesn't have class 5 or higher surrounding it. Then I need the weather to hold. I wanted to get Neowise last year and I had 2 months of solid rain. Stay safe.

I live in Central Victoria and shoot it from mid February until late October with September and October being best for panorama's of it setting in the Western sky as it stretches North to South, for vertical shots it's best from February until start of August in the East although by then it's like 6.30pm and well tea time and I do like my food lol. At the moment I'm out from around 10-11pm but mid Feb it's about 4-5am and by end of March around 1am but may and June are my favourite months

@@mikesphotography straight out my front door i can take east facing shots if i wanted to and that came in handy while learning and testing different settings, farming paddocks all around the house with the worst light pollution coming from Bendigo about half an hour south west but that glow adds to some foregrounds.

@@mikesphotography Thanks for the info! We are going to Al Razeen / Al Qua'a this thursday night to friday morning. Al Razeen has less light pollution but has limited foregrounds. Maybe next weekend we'll try to go Al Qudra (triple tree) 😊
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 3 года назад
I know what you mean. Al Razeen is fantastic for dark skies, but hard to find good foregrounds, unless you jump over the fences...which is a pain to do with camera gear! 😆

BTW, is it okay for a normal sedan car to drive thru the (triple tree) or do we need to drive an SUV? :)
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 3 года назад
It's flat from the dirt road to the northwest, but there are a few soft spots, so I'd recommend getting there in a 4x4 as one of my friends did get stuck there in a normal car.

Lots of stars, and if it is dark enough, you will see the milkyway. In New Zealand, we saw one of the nebulas as well as a really clear core to the milkyway.

That is true ent, but if people don't know about the moon cycles and light pollution, they could easily find it on stellarium but still get bad results.

@mikesphotography

The light meter is the -/+ logo at the bottom of the screen. In theory if you get it to 0 you should get a good exposure but you need to learn about how the light meter works in camera. And then get experience with your camera to see when you need to push it up a little or down a little. Experience is priceless. 👍
