I would have originally seen this at it's first TV showing in 1957. I was 8 or so. I've always remembered the show and that Charles Bronson was in an episode, though I didn't remember the particular episode. What a nostalgic joy to see it again.
I love the character he played here, such a sweet and lovely man, and him being self-conscious is endearing and cute. Any woman would be lucky to have him.
Oh he was a very beautiful man when he was young! Very distinctive and unique look in his facial features, he looked very ethnic Tatar/Eurasian. It's hard to pinpoint what made him so attractive, but he sure was very attractive! He had nice lips and great hair too, and a nice body. Plus, he was a good actor, with way more range than people think, because they often overlook his earlier career and just know him for the silly action movies he made when he was older.
charles bronson spent many of his early years working in mines-would later marry actreess jill ireland-star in the abc series "man with a camera"(friday nights)and in movie "sandpiper" and "dirty dozen" -great character actor
Not my favorite way to watch a great classic television show such as this, but I'm sure glad I stayed to watch, otherwise, I would've missed out on this very beautiful love story. Thanks so much for posting it. This episode reminds me a little bit of "The Enchanted Cottage", starring Robert Young and Dorothy McGuire; a movie I have always wanted to watch, but somehow, kept missing out on. I am familiar with the story, however. I sure hope someone posts it to RU-vid for free sometime. I long to see it. Maranatha!
Of all the episodes of this show- this was the only one that I truly remembered-- then years later I saw Charles Bronson and I remember he had been the guy in this story…. I wish it had been a bit clearer to watch but I still appreciate that you took the time to post and allow me to remember
Mr. Tipton is alive and kicking. He changed his name to "The Democrat Party" and now tries to give away, not millions, but billions, to every poor wretch illegally residing in the U.S.
There was- a man named Percy Ross. Unlike the mysterious (and purely fictional) "John Beresford Tipton", he publicly helped deserving people achieve their financial and personal goals, and wrote a daily newspaper column called "Thanks A Million", documenting those people who asked for his help. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percy_Ross
It has been my lifelong dream to become like Mr. Tipton. Sadly, things have not worked out and I never became rich. I have done what I can with the little I've had, however. Not big gifts like a million dollars, but I've given money away, bought people cars, bought one person a new transmission, pretend to "loan" people money only because they wouldn't take it any other way, then never asked for it back. So if anyone wants to back me, haha, I'm here.
Time lordr what you say is true. It would be good to have such a philanthropic person, but the crazy mad Republicans would say the man is a socialist, and say it's wrong to give the ones who needs it to survive.
Thank Uuu!! For the Title. I never could catch it. This was a show I Don't remember as a kid. They are right these are hidden shows. The Millionaire. This was a great series. I wish this were real. Seemed to pick good hearted people too
The perceptions and tastes of the public can and do change and sometimes quite rapidly. Here in 1957 Charles Bronson was cast as an unattractive lonely outsider, but 10 years later he was a top film star (The Dirty Dozen, Once Upon a Time in the West) and had become more than just the quintessential "tough guy" but emerged as a rugged male sex symbol.
There is a possible discrepancy in the number of episodes in the series. Most sources say that there were 206 episodes, but several online sources (who, admittedly could be mistaken) point to an episode (S03E07-The Denny Havens Story) that was originally broadcast on either 17OCT1956 or 24OCT1956. Checking back on the TV sections of various newspapers of that era, I find that there is indeed an unaccounted for "extra" episode of The Millionaire broadcast then, however none of the TV Schedule sources I've found give specifics about which episode it was. As the rest of the time/dates for episodes ARE accounted for, I am very inclined to believe that that Denny Havens episode DID exist, but has slipped through the cracks. When moved into syndication, 16 episodes were kept back ("removed from syndication") and the Denny Havens episode would make a total of 17 "unavailable" episodes. So, unless there is a change in status, there are 190 episodes available, I have 185 of them.....so far. The 17 REMO(removed) episodes are: S01E02 S02E13 S03E07 S04E09 S05E14 S06E25 S02E26 S03E28 S04E11 S05E21 S06E27 S04E24 S05E24 S06E33 S04E28 S05E33 S04E30
@@Suspense1949 On the internet it states CBS chose to pull several episode from the line up. They refused to give an explanation. Those episodes have simply been shelved. Between you and me, they probably got sued over things that are in those episodes and have been served with a gag order as well.
Handsomeness is in the eyes of the beholder. He is not handsome Bronson had very rugged looks and is passable as a average Joe. That is why it works in this story. Not a pretty boy like Rock Hudson or Gig Young.
how corny … Bronson was always a handsome guy, though not your soft faced teenage look that's so popular today.I think this whole 'WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE" series is goofy …. if you ask me!
