The Milwaukee Bucks offseason primer episode: Part 1 

I am really in favor of the Bucks taking and keeping a player with their first round pick. Got to take a rim protector with athleticism who could play early, or a 3 and D wing with decent height and wing span who is physically mature enough to play early. Pick a guy who helps the playoff run next year, but also projects to be a 10 year contributor. Do not need a star, but we need the next big to replace Bobbi and or Portis ideally.

I do still like what Brook brings to the table but when Giannis was out he looked a lot worse defensively. His ability to space the floor is so valuable and because of his age he wouldn't be that valuable to other teams better off keeping him

Another thing with 2nd apron teams is that players cannot be aggregated in trades so you have to keep that in mind

If we’re losing 5 old washed veterans from this years roster in Crowder Beasley Beverly Thanasis and Gallo I think it makes sense to keep the four young guys and still draft two players with our picks. We’re gonna be toast when it comes to draft picks after this year so the next stage of the giannis era starts with this draft. Trading our first rounder with pat connatougn to get rid of him on an expiring deal is delusional. How much longer will Pat C continue to find ways to destroy Giannis’ prime and legacy in plain sight? We need to draft Ryan Dunn at pick 23 and start him at the 3 and move Middleton up to the backcourt with dame. Then we use the 33rd pick to grab a backup mobile center that can play behind Brook and we develop. The great thing about the second round this upcoming draft is that they give u a full day break between the first and second round so we basically have the 3rd pick of the second draft. We’ll be able to really sit down and figure out which backup big would fit giannis best based on everyone available. So I would argue that early second round picks are incredibly valuable now with the new draft format because u can really prepare for them without any clock rushing the selection. But back to my main point… if we trade Pat for nothing to get under the second apron that would help this teams flexibility a ton. From there we have the 6 young guys plus giannis dame Middleton brook bobby, that would leave us at 11 roster spots filled so we can sign 4 solid vet minimum guys which should be more than enough. 9 vets and 6 young guys is a good balance to me. Another thing that’s great about young guys is they don’t have the status to complain about minutes. When u have a lot of vets like Beasley and crowder who expect to play it can get annoying to manage for Doc and the coaching staff. I think we should target players like Oladipo, Hayward, Javale McGee, Wiseman, and PJ Tucker (probably will pick up option tho). I need to take a closer look at the free agent class tho cause there might be better options that are younger and more athletic.

I think we should go and try to get Jalen Duren or Kyle Kuzma

Can we discuss this idea of Giannis playing the “5”? First and foremost what even is the 5 position in the NBA anymore? I understand there is this idea of “wear and tear” at the 5 position. But honestly this isn’t the 90’s anymore. Offenses are more spread out these days, and teams generally speaking don’t employ the use of a traditional 5 anymore. Seriously, who are the top 5 big guys that play the 5? Embiid, Jokic, and who else? Look at the game of both Embiid and Jokic, neither one is the definition of the 90s grinder (Shaq, Ewing). Both have the capacity to grind, and both play in offenses that thrive on space. So where is this extra where and tear on Giannis coming from? Why is this point never really talked about in relation to Giannis playing the 5 (a dying position, that isn’t even selected for Allstar voting and end of the season awards).

We should draft Terrance Shannon with that first pick! Nba ready athlete defender. Definitely trade brook and Pat for a guy like kuzma and d finney smith! I’d even try to get malcom brogdon or jerami grant! If we trade the first rd pick please go and get Caruso!!

Brook Lopez won’t be traded. He’s too hard to replace just from a basketball standpoint. A 7 footer that can shoot 35+ percent from 3 who’s also an elite rim protector doesn’t grow on trees. Disagree heavily with a lot of this draft conversation tbh. Trading away the 1st round pick and MarJon to bring back a guy on a rookie deal is hypocritical. Then on top of that you still wanna draft with the 2nd round pick? You’re letting go of one young player for two young players? I’m going to assume you haven’t done much scouting for the draft but DaRon Holmes II is the perfect Bobby replacement should we choose to trade him away, but Holmes II is not falling to the 2nd round at all. Also the idea that 4-5 young guys on a roster is too many for a championship roster is just false. In reality, there’s no 100% blueprint to win a championship. People thought Giannis couldn’t win. People thought Jokic couldn’t win. Let people continue to think there’s only one way to win instead of being one of them. The main trade target should be Kyle Kuzma by all means. Whether they have to get under the 2nd apron first, or do a 3 team trade, or trade Bobby or trade PatC or trade Ajax or trade MarJon or trade them all, Kyle Kuzma is a need for the Bucks. A 9-10 man rotation of: Dame, Khris, Kuzma, Giannis, Brook/ PatBev, AJ, Ajax(or MarJon), pick#33, DaRon Holmes II sounds just fine to me. TyTy, CLivingston and Thanasis being 3rd string options also falls in line with what their skill level is at the moment.

Milwaukee should let Patrick Beverley walk and replace him with Kris Dunn in free agency Dunn is literally the perimeter defensive weapon they have to have especially in the playoffs 24/25
