And pretending that he didn’t know how to dance at beginning is amusing. And turning down the come on of a really attractive young woman. He was so clean it was like he wasn’t even thinking about it
It's 2018, and I'm 28yrs old. This movie popped into my life right when I needed it. It's not just about school... It's about education of life, which countless generations can relate to. I have fallen completely in love with this movie and it's soundtrack. I have a few people in my life that the theme song applies to and I will forever be grateful for them. I hope this movie never fades away. It's so wholesome and heartwarming.
Boy 28. That means you born in 1990. That's when I first seen this. Got me through some bad times. Even though it's outdated as far as the mannerisms and fads it has lots of timeless themes
@@nickpelz4373 I could not agree more!!! 1990 seems like forever ago to ME...but my mom (she'll be 73 in Dec) saw this movie when she was young...and I can't even BEGIN to imagine how that feels....it's polarizing in a way...to see that not as much has changed as we had hoped or aspired for...I remember in school, there was talk and rumor of driving hovermobiles by now...nope...the furthest we've gotten is a few electric cars XD it's really something..Kids don't realize just how good they have it these days...no more floppy disks, no more CDs, no more cassettes, no more landlines, no more dial-up....it's a wild world we're living in now, but this movie keeps me humble...it reminds me that before i was adult, times were hard and tough, and i made it through....and if need be, i can again without all these luxuries.
@@calli.catastrophe I wished I'd have seen it in 67 as well but I was born in 73. And yes things change and with more technology we pay the price as morality declines. But I think people today can still relate to the basic theme of self improvement, confidence and basic human decency. You are an awesome person. Why can't I meet sensitive, thoughtful and intelligent people like you on Facebook and the real world instead of shallow ones.
@@nickpelz4373 we're a rare breed....and sadly...a lot of us good ones are [sometimes] easily bullied until there's no more [or very little] online presence. I've had my fair share of being cyber-stalked, harassed, etc...it can really make you jaded if you let it...but i try to focus more on my successes in real life and less about my successes online. I have a big heart and want to do amazing things...seems like this day and time, people just aren't ready for that. I will always stick up for the 'little guy', or the outcast, whether online or off....that's just how I am...I'm not perfect...I'm nowhere close, but I try my best to be a good person. If I died tomorrow, I'd want to be remembered as someone that loved with all my heart and always greeted people with a smile....and god-willing, that's how I'm gonna go out lol...all that said, i don't really give out all my personal information...but if you go to my channel, on the right hand side of the channel art, you can find an icon to my Instagram, and i think my linktree (where all my social medias are) and follow me on those and msg me if you like. I hope you have an awesome day wherever you are :) take care friend ♥
@@calli.catastrophe True to all. Except unfortunately I don't have many real life successes so online stuff hits me hardly but oh well.. And I realize as a public figure you can't give out private information. I wasn't trying to invade your privacy so sorry if it came off that way. I was just saying I had respect for you. I'm gay anyway. But yes I can go on your channel which I already did because I was curious. And I can follow you on Instagram and maybe if I see you feel comfortable I can message you. Then if we get along who knows? Maybe become online gal pals. Take care.
I’ve seen this movie at least 20 times ...and I still get ‘ teary eyed ‘ when I see this scene and the subsequent reaction to when he receives his gift ..one of my favourite movies ever
Dam im a dude my mom put me on to this movie when I was a kid. We watch it everytime. This scene always brings tears to my eyes especially since mom is gone. Love it
Brilliant song by the mind benders eric Stewart brilliant and talented musician and engineer obviously went on to greater success with 10cc great to have this on filim (in colour) when loads of 60s material has been lost brilliant
The Mindbenders had some really bad luck after they had a hit with A Groovy Kind Of Love. The album they released right after that single bubbled around #96 on the charts.
You went to that type of school? i live in Canada and our schools then were the same. I took my first date to see the movie. We are still good friends today and sometimes lovers. Those times were sweet times!!
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 I've always wondered why the field trip scenes to the Victoria and Albert and Natural History Museums were done in a still photograph montage. Was it a conscious artistic choice on the part of the creative team or was it for budgetary reasons?
Sidney Poitier does a great job combining dances of the time~moves from The Pony, The Jerk, The Frug and others in a really cool way! I've read where people criticize his dancing. Hey! Those are the moves we were doing! There were so many dances, each with its own song. I saw this at the drive-in when I was a teenager. The other movie was "Up the Down Staircase", also about a schoolteacher facing difficult situations. Thanks for the scene! I wish you also had "Off and Running".
@@bs92349 A great triple bill would be "Blackboard Jungle", "Up The Down Staircase", and "To Sir With Love". TCM showed the two with Sidney Poitier a few days ago and it was magnificent watching them back-to-back.
Same here, I saw this movie in the theater at 7 years old, I felt the same way I feel now, I got choked up back then as a kid and now, I’m wanting to hold on to the moment and stop time and keep everyone as they were, young and alive with their dreams.
The lovely girl is Judy Geeson. To Sir With Love is my favorite movie. And this and the scene with Lulu singing To Sir With Love are my favorite movies scenes. I lived the Mod times and this takes you right back into them like a time machine. My mom and our neighbor went to see this at the theater and would not let us kids go because it was considered a grown up's movie at the time. I like that adults once cared about keeping childhood innocent for children.
One of my favorite scenes from any movie, and any time I watch To Sir With Love, I end up playing this scene a few times, then after I finish the movie, I'll play it a few more. "It's getting harder all the time" is one of my favorite songs, and I love how, in this scene, they start out with the intro of "Off and Running" and use that to lead into "It's Getting Harder all the time". Sidney Poitier, of course, plays that transition perfectly, acting like he didn't sign up for that. :)
Sir Poitier (even his name is elegant) clearly kicked the potent black actor movement massively forward in modern cinema. No "Uncle Tom" slack-jawed, comedic stereotypes or single dimension criminal turns for this master thespian. He always firstly embodied: a human being -- simple and true. Characters trying to fit in, figure it all out, and fix the outcomes.... whatever blockades stood in his powerful way. And the timing of his screen presence is even more prescient considering the abysmal system of racial strife and segregation in this supposed "modern" age.
oh boy I remember my mom would always put the 45 rpm of this song for me and my sister to dance every time we had a party!! great memories! wonderful movie!
Yeah, great song! but 30 years ago when I first heard I had to work at it to find it. Record shows, what-not...it's so easy to record something from the internet for instant possession. Another great 1960's song that most people will never hear. A great movie also. Good post!
To sir with love transports me back to my days at school....its so magical i feel so young inside when i hear it thank you lulu you sing it so beautiful .i love sidney poiter he is such a talented actor heartwarming and sadly missed .judy geeson i love her looks .the mindbenders are fabulous .love erics white jeans and the smile on bob langs face and forever lovely rick rothwell .all of the cast were so wonderful well casted .my all time favorite film
awkward at first, as Sir is now on the kids terrain. But he shows respect for their culture, puts down his glass, picks up the steps and goes with it. Love when Des Barres puts his specs back on ( 1:01) when student Seales proclaims "he's good!" (1:38) and especially Judy Geeson's real, not acted delight (2:19)
disco4ever is a teacher in Wisconsin and to this day loves this song and the movie it is from. I can still show this great film and have my students respond favorably to it!!!!! Great song, great post!!
First time hearing this mid-60's (one of my favorites) after 30 yrs since I left my old home. My guy and I both are delighted to see this clip. thanks.
The Mindbenders featured guitarist/singer founding member Eric Stewart, who went on to join the fabulous 10CC and sang lead vocals on "I'm Not In Love", a UK #1 hit. Love "It's Getting Harder..." and it's classic Mersey Beat guitar sound of the period. One of my all time favorite movies, the end scenes get me every time and I've watched this movie more times than I can remember.
I love this tune; and wrote a scene in my novel 'Amelia; A Vahine' in which the protagonist, a teenaged call girl, does an exotic dance to this tune-- just because I liked the song so much. ;)
Yes the movie was great and Sidney Pottier is one of the best actors in history. But the band who cut "It's Getting Harder," were an outstanding and underrated band from the great music of the 60's.
All I feel for her is a lot of respect, admiration, and a lot of love for her being a professional, and holding a position as a master of teaching, and learning!!!
"The whole world is waiting for you. You're a smasher!" Every young person should be told that at least one in their life, by someone who sincerely believes it.
I did see this movie when it came out along with my parents. My mother loved it. I was 13 years old and I could easily relate to it. I highly recommend you also watch. ‘Guess who’s coming to dinner ‘ if you’d like this movie you will like Poitier in it .. has a very powerful social commentary. It is a romantic comedy.
One of the greatest films, Sidney Poitier, one of the greatest actors, Pretty Judy Geeson, the great Richard Wilson, Geoffrey Bayldon that went on to play Catweazle and the Crowman in Worzel Gummidge, and of course providing the music, was the Mindbenders, with Eric Stewart on lead vocals and guitar, he went on to be a co founder of 10 CC.
Many many years ago I asked my English teacher if he'd be teaching the same level the following year. He said no and I moved on . My teacher that following year was such a nincompoop! , and the damn thing is that that teacher I asked was teaching the same level! A hell of a lot of years have past, and I'm still reflecting on that! I must say this is one of my favourite films. When you find a teacher that puts all the effort and dedication they're very difficult to forget.
UK in 1966(Released in 67) Great looking girls, music, England winning the 66’ football World cup and fashion way ahead of their time. London was the envy of the world around this classic period.
It is 11:45 and I'm watching To Sir With Love I'm 64 years old and love this movie and the soundtrack. The 60' compared to 2022 is way different prefer the 60's even though I was only about 7 when this movie came out.
It's getting harder all the time is great, but I really love Off and Running that the Mindbenders begin playing at the start of the dance scene, probably the best rocker they recorded
Back then when I saw this scence in the movie theater back in ROC, I thought it was so cool, wish I were as pretty as Judy Geeson, then I was a young teenager. I had a vinyl LP then. Finally just a week ago, I download the song "It's getting harder all the time" (the Mindbenders) just for keep and sing along.
