I’m hoping a Lambos, Spacek, Hunt, O’Rourke, Peart, Masters can step up before a Yakemchuk becomes an option in St.Paul. It looks like he could very well be gone before 13. As for Jiricek, interesting and fun to see these names that come up that I’ve never heard of and know zero about. This kid will be available and still developing, 6’2” - 168 lbs. is hilarious. Having a brother already in the pros shows he’s got the pedigree in place. Lastly, I’m sure the Wild learned their lesson least year ( Stramel) and will take the best player available - period. Great podcast…

So when I think about drafting another defenseman, I see 2 strategies that I would analyze. I personally would look to either find Faber a LD top line partner, that would be a cornerstone for the next decade. OR, we stack that RD RIGHT SHOT side for the top 2 pairs. Both of these have specific advantages and set backs...but looking at our current prospect pool....a RD position is more intriguing to me. Not a lot of teams have a stacked right side like that honestly....averages suggest LD is much more saturated. It gave, and continues to, give guys like Dumba and Burns more value than if they played LD and shot left, even to this day! I've had my eye on Yakemchuk to fill this role since last off-season, and I don't know of any other RD's that could fit nicely in the Wild organization. Lastly...and most painfully..."hoping" players fall to our pick at #13 wouldn't have been a problem HAD THEY kept nuking the season (from January on) to stay in the top 6 picks for this draft. These details matter...BIG TIME. At least with Faber, I have a sense of ability to build around him, we couldn't do that with Dumba, especially after his injury that killed his shot.

A top 10 pick was right there. RIGHT THERE! Oh well. I like how you laid that out. Stacking one side throughout the lineup or stacking the top pair with Faber. Both approaches have definite merits

Dear Sett! I am a fan of the Minnesota Wild team. I read the news that the Minnesota leadership is ready to consider offers to exchange Marco Rossi and Phillip Gustafson. Rossi had just begun to progress, and Gustavson did not have the most successful season, but there were reasons for that: injuries to our players.

Injuries really have no impact on save percentage less it's the actual goalie that is injured.

It is very hard to try to evaluate these guys without seeing full seasons of games. I have never been great with draft coverage, so I'm just going to take what these guys who get paid to cover the draft say and point out the things that are interesting

As long as Guerin doesn't re-sign Shaw or Luchini, and sends Lettierri back to Iowa, he should be able to demote 3 aging vets to the 4th line. Not ideal, but I don't see Billy trading his precious aging vets.

Is Minnesota management really going to clean up the payroll in order to immediately extend both Faber and Chisholm this summer? As for me, Rossi has finally begun to make progress, and finding a good goalkeeper is now difficult, so such an exchange will clearly not be beneficial.

Faber doesn't need a new contract until 2025-26. Chisholm can walk for all I care, he was fine but nothing special.

The NHL is overdue for a change with how they award the top draft picks each year. A bad team doesn’t deserve anything. My suggestion: a natural rotation every year. 5 teams vying for the top 5 picks. Different 5 teams the next year..and so on. A team will have a chance at the first overall every 6-7 years.

I'm fine with the current system, I would just remove the lottery. The draft lottery is dumb. Instead of a draft lottery I would impose a profit sharing percentage penalty based on where teams end up each season. That hurts the owners and owners don't like that. The higher the draft pick the lower the profit sharing percentage. Force owners to make their teams better without the crutch of profit sharing. The way to make actual changes in the NHL is to impact the owner's pocketbook.

@@travzimmerman1340 I agree with you and that idea would seem to work at eliminating the potential for tanking. However, the Wild would probably end up exactly the same team and not picking in the top 5 since 2005.
