Derek, like you I was away from church. I was separated for over 14 years (age 18-32.) I would say, "I don't have to go to church to believe in or worship Christ." The problem was I wasn't following him at all. Not in my actions, not in my words, and not in my heart. I was void. One day, while drinking a glass of wine on the back porch of a friend and neighbor of mine, her cousin shared his testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a Catholic. His cousin (my friend) told him he would go to hell by reading the book because it was not of God. (She was a Doctor who studied religion in college.) His testimony of my religion was so strong I could feel the Holy Spirit testify to me. I asked him why he hadn't joined the church and his reply was that one day he would but for right now he was considering his family. He was from a strong Italian Catholic family and they would divorce him. So for now he wanted to sort that out but he believed that the Book of Mormon was inspired, and directed by God. He believed the people of the Book of Mormon were written by prophets of God for our day. I came home and had to find my book of Mormon in a box of books still boxed from when we had moved. I wanted to look up and verify one thing he said. I began reading the BOM and never put it down. Then at the end of the book, I prayed and said God, I know where I need to be but I can't do it alone, I need help. The next day 2 missionaries knocked on my door. I knew at that moment that God knew me. He loved me. And more importantly, he sent those who could help me. I am now 60 and have not quit going. Yes, music is an inspiration. The Prophet, Russell M Nelson, has announced a shorter time at church. Interestingly in Primary, they have cut the time back and there is only 20 minutes in the main sharing time and it is mostly just music. Then 20 minutes in the Sunday school. 2 Hours total for Sacrament, Sunday School/Priesthood. I love it. I am so glad I met this Catholic (really Mormon) man who shared his testimony with me. I am not perfect (and no one is) but I now know the importance of progression and how it has changed me. May God always be with you and bless you in your journey. Much love, brother of mine.

Same. I was born 16 weeks early. I had so many holes in my lungs that they had to put a tube in my abdomen to let it out and I was put on an intubation and vibrating ventilator breathing 100% Oxygen. I am now 15 and have 95% lung capacity of an adult. I can’t play sports due to my lung capacity and my small airway. But I lived and even though the doctors at the time said if both me and my twin survived we would have 0% chance of being neurologicaly intact. I beat those odds. I have no C’s on my report card and did I forget to mention? I’m hard of hearing from being born so early and the NICU is a loud place. I cannot hear high pitched sounds at low volumes with my hearing aids off. And to top it all off. Total NICU time: 3 months and 1 year of quarantine in my family’s house. I also as a kid experienced what I call “Breathing attacks” in where combined with the swelling of my throat due to acid reflux and being sick and having post nasal drip would cause my airway to shrink and I would suddenly wake up struggling to breathe and the first attack I remember was the worst one. I remember dreaming about the rockets on my blanket moving around. I woke up in my parents room as I was sleeping there because I was sick. I could barely breathe we tried asthmaneferin steam shower ETC and none of it worked. My SP02 dropped to 40% as the ambulance was coming and I said “mom, I’m tired” and passed out on my parents recliner. And that’s all I remember. My mom has told me that I woke up in the ER and I stayed in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) for a week and missed a field trip.

I felt bad I left primary when all of the kids sang it.

I sang this song with my friends in sacrament meeting nin front of everyone and it was terrifying. But when I was singing this beautiful song I felt better.

Read the bible. It is Gods love letter written for us. It is all about JESUS. Every word of it, it's all about the promise of the Savior. The precious gift given to us from heaven, the Son of God, Christ Jesus.
