What is the miracle of experience?
Rupert helps us understand what the knowing or miracle of experience is and how to follow what makes us happy. To make a practise or a discipline out of it is disrespectful, don't do it for a reason, just do it for the joy of discovery.

It’s sounds like Rupert is a classical guitarist and if so then that was a perfect explanation of the relationship between the student and the method.

Is it right to listen to various teachers most of the days Or to dedicate oneself to a one teacher and give him at least few years, I am a bit confused on this issue as due to choices available due to internet I often end up listening to one teacher after another, please advice

I think this older video has many views simply from age. There is very little of Rupert's teaching in this video, despite the long length. It is long, simply because it is three "questions", whereas later videos separate out each question into a separate video. The subject matter is simply Rupert and his students talking about their experience of doing the practice and taking the seminars. So it is very "meta". Start with one of Rupert's other videos instead.

I'm not ready to settle for this. I've experienced that everything around me was projected inside out from me. But I'm not ready to agree that there's no individuality possible on this most basic level. I think maybe there is. Maybe infinite consciousness, however one, has a fabric of individual cells, or is developing those individual cells of infinite consciousness. Makes sense to me. Who knows? I appreciate any comment on this.

How so? Even neuroscientist, enlightened masters, philosopher's agree with this knowledge. The separate self is an illusion, if you take yourself to be a person you suffer, inquiry yourself and you can see for yourself that you're nothing but pure awareness, abide in that and your life will change forever trust me. It's not complicated, it's your mind/ego that makes it complicated, use your mind/ego/body but don't let them use you, you're the awareness of them, not them.

I once fell into "madness" and deep sorrow at a 10 day "silent" retreat. I had to leave early. I found the part about silently avoiding other people's eyes to be extremely disturbing. The silence was ok but I did not "grok" the purpose of avoiding eye contact. Sitting silently and eating at tables - sort of together but not. I also became physically ill, did not know why & later realised that I am allergic to tofu. The whole thing was so completely painful - both physically and emotionally. I also learned that my mind is quite extremely delusional and will take all that silence, which is like an empty screen and project on to it all of my past, false assumptions about who my ego thought I was. Finally, I am - right this moment - letting go of the intense grief, guilt and sorrow I had fallen into then - about 17 years ago now. I also remember that the monk complained that we were not sitting below him as we were supposed to be doing so we had to change our way of sitting. I was in so much physical pain and I did not know why. That experience certainly did bring up literally all of my issues but I think I was not ready to deal with so much at once - all alone. I must say that most of the others seemed to be doing fine. I think I was not ready for it as I still I had so much emotional baggage and nobody Intrusted, to help me to deal with it. I too am an artist and I very much resonate with Rupert's description of his artistic experience. I am 75 yrs old now and I am so grateful to have stumbled upon this lovely, compassionate man.

I agree with Rupert here that not being allowed to look one another in the eye is extreme and the opposite of oneness, it breeds separation 💓 I'm sorry you were not in an environment that was supportive and loving. I can understand how that could add trauma to trauma! We need to be held, if even by our environment, when things like that come up.

I want to share my method of realization which helped me. I would be happy if even just one man benefited from it. When hurt, or under any feeling, emotion, you must try to feel the I who is hurt. This is the most important. Observe until you can feel it clearly. This is difficult. While observing dont try to stop the feeling of hurt. Then continue observing the I without resisting the feeling of hurt. You will discover that this I is something focused or localized inside. Continue observation. You will find out that this I exist because you identified yourself with hurt. The hurt became alive. You became the hurt. If you continue investigation, you will discover that you are not the hurt, not this I, but this I is inside you. You will be aware of yourself as borderless something (i cannot find a word for that) and this focused I at the same time. And with your will you can stop the identification and the feeling will be stopped also.

There is a teacher for every level of understanding, some of us need far less advanced to have interest or understanding, some a median level, others more advanced. When the student is ready, the teacher appears, because they have been there for you until you come to the point you can recognize them. There will always be such teachers, we just need to grow to the point they can help us go further. These teachers are valuable at all levels, as we usually don't progress without the blessed work of walking each step of the way. The experience of incremental growth can be a wonderful journey we can share together.

what are some of the things that helped to build up and keep the 'i' thought intact? surely (as kids) mirrors helped to shrink our boundless awareness down into this 'me', the one that stares back at us in the mirror and who we take ourselves to be. our imagined (mirror) face became fused onto our self concept, and its now so stuck in place that we wear that mirror-face on the inside, resurrecting its hazy image whenever we think of 'self': it seems if we could break that self image apart, that internal locus of identity where the 'i' exists in the form of our imagined face.....then awakening might follow on from that. please talk to us about mirrors and their part in forming our self [-image] and what method might be employed to shatter that self image. i get the feeling that the self concept and the self image are symbiotically attached, and that if the internal (facial) self image could be broken apart, the self identity would lose its main reference point and would be much easier to dissolve. finally, how do You relate to the one who looks back at you in the mirror?

understanding suffering is understanding what is wrong,. understanding what is wrong does not awaken what we want in life. this is based on the premise that we do not actually want to suffer but would rather be happy, studying suffering is like hitting yourself in the head in order to see how good it feels when it stops, awakening from a dream is being who you are and knowing that you are complete and awake and no longer can even entertain the idea of dreaming
@markbrad123

Think the miserable mistake, especially in a familiar setting is people go 'Bored Oh thats that' and then go off into a separate conceptual world 'This bla bla bla'. Find some 'Netti Netti' mirror internal noting bring one back into sync with the moment- might find it enjoying-^-enjoying rather than this 'n' that complaining. If something irrelevant and unpleasant does crop up and gets a hold, just spread it into the wider awareness and it should pop its fabricated existence like a bubble.

So many people would think that 's spoilt and self-indulgent, but it sort of leads into the opposite direction if one's skilful, aware about it.. As I used to reckon as a kid, what do they really know? Maybe nothing!' I didn't quite know that the world is somewhat alienated from its own true Being :)

~ A Happening An opening. A calling. A servant of coming. Come. Now. Empty. Willing. Naked. I am coming. The harvest is here. Ripe and delicious is the juice. All are invited !! The well is deep. The water pristine. There has always been but 2 choices. Me or the world. I formed you and made you for me. Find Me, and find all. What lies beyond? Me. What do you need? What are you seeking? Me. ~

Exactly. If Reality is just one why can't we just dance together instead of trying to be 'smarter than' the other and plain ruin the entire dance? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xd2nTXsivHs.html - Dance of the Little Swans - Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky Ego is just ego. It does not make the Truth any truer. Ego blinds us and gets one forever stuck in the competitive-mind-game. Competition may help at a certain level when it works as inspiration - relatively speaking it can work as self motivator to excel on an activity but it totally ruins one's game if destroying the other becomes his/her flag, or God. Then you got stuck in your mind in a very petty way and while you resist you won't ever see reality from a broader perspective or view - ever. Ego is about living a fantasy on a stage forever ...and always afraid of what could happen next. That is why some of us need to sarcastically bully or terrorize our audience, isn't it? Even relatively speaking, ego is a fraud....the cameras are supposed to make one's identity more important but ....sorry... only on Planet Ignorance it does - that very same planet that currently BORES YOU TO DEATH and makes you want to spy on people's showers and beds as a last resource entertainment. Sorry if the truth hurts.... The cameras DO NOT make one more real. Sorry again. Blame on the God 'in you' if you need to blame on something, not on your next victim.

Rupert, 06:00 brings to mind Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's 'Flow state' theory which we are happiest when intensely focused on what interests us. Also Colin Wilson's teaching about intense focus.

15:00 suffering is to the mind what pain is to the body. Great! But at this point I feel Rupert is leaping into his teaching rather than staying with the metaphor. Because when my hand I feel pain because my hand is in the fire, the pain is advising me to do something about it. When my mind is giving me the signal of suffering I believe it's the same. Rupert suggests just take it as a hint that you are mistaking yourself for a bodymind. But he would not suggest, I am sure, take the pain of the fire as a hint that you have mistaken yourself for a body. He might say take your hand out of the fire AND THEN ponder about this, but he would not dismiss the fire as a real problem that demands action. And so I believe that the suffering actually tells you that there IS something wrong in your life that inflicts psychological or emotional pain onto your mind. Feeling suffering should make you look around and wonder why am I feeling miserable? And maybe you realize that you are being mistreated in a relationship, that you don't like your work, that you have a bad sleeping schedule etc. I am talking about this because these videos which I truly cherish nevertheless often gave me a sense of I am basically just an idiot for my suffering who still just doesn't get how he is not the bodymind.. and this can easily lead to spending all day meditating instead of cleaning up your room for example. Here Rupert would suggest to not meditate if it's not what you would love to do at the moment. But cleaning my room is often also not what I love to do before I start.. I like Ruperts teaching for all the harmony between spirituality and 'normal' everyday life. In this area I am missing the link between the two and feel like he is jumping over the obvious reason the young man was asking his question. Maybe I will change my opinion when listening to the rest of the video, just wanted to pin that down Best regards

I’m fairly new to these teachings but its all getting more clear .. can someone please explain in what matter our experience in the eternal now suddenly ends? When people and pets leave our existence I’m trying to understand my suffering from loss I truly would appreciate some sort of answer I recently lost my 2 dogs that I love dearly its so hard to believe they were in my mind where they felt so real in my world

Do psychedelics / best ayahuasca four or five times and you will feel this. Do it with intention not partying and you’ll see enlightenment or at least get a glimpse

"The root of suffering is an illusion of a separate self." - A true stoic would feel no fear of death because he would know that life and the cosmos will continue far beyond his mortal form; however, at first principle, suffering is generated by our physical sense perception - if I put my head on a hot pan, I will feel pain regardless of whether I believe in, for instance, eternal life beyond my own. To deny the reality of pain and suffering in our immediate awareness is to deny the very fabric of our experience, which as he says at the beginning is the only way of knowing that we have in the first place.

The non-existent old man reminds of the Ending to David Lynch's Inland Empire when Laura Dern opens the door to the room with the rabbits and from inside the room it's revealed there is no one there.

I'm not sure how helpful it is to tell people who are suffering that their suffering is a mirage or illusion. It feels a bit like he's diminishing it or minimising. Suffering is very real no matter what mystical language you use to gloss over it

The miracle of experience. 00:00 to 04:30 Suffering and the root of suffering as the separate self and the ending of suffering as a by-product of the realization of the non-existence of the separate self. 04:30 to 25:00.
