I think Cosey always tends to get overshadowed by P'Orridge. Her own solo work was probably even more atmospheric and out of body than TG was. (Particularly the album Time To Tell) Sometimes its hard to me to view Genesis in the same light, despite being a figurehead much themselves, as they were an abusive partner to Cosey which has been detailed since.

Great video, bud. The day I bought the “20 Jazz Funk Greats” CD, the cashier asked me and my friend, “What kind of music do you guys listen to?” My friend said, “Whatever’s popular.” We laughed like maniacs all the way home. It’s been my answer ever since.

Wow! That's fascinating! I remember getting introduced to industrial by ways of Bile through a friend that was really getting into industrial music and i just remember thinking: hold up, if THIS is industrial, then Nine Inch Nails is just a pop band, because this shit is crusty as fuuuuck! Needless to say, Throbbing Gristle sounds amazing, can't wait to find more!

check out some SPK or Einstürzende Neubauten, Nurse with Wound, Coil, Foetus.... don't be fooled though NIN had it's place back in the late 80's along with Skinny Puppy and Ministry etc but yeah i agree they are gateway bands to the more inaccessible industrial stuff

I am so happy Genesis P-Orridge received mainstream recognition for their art in their lifetime. I'm not interested in slogging through any debate on the merits, or lack thereof, mainstream acceptance brings, so don't bother. As a fan of over 40 years, it made my day when I heard about their exhibit at MoMA. G P-O likely thought "so what?". But I know somewhere between then and their death, a lightning bolt of satisfaction must have crept through, if only subconsciously and for a fleeting moment. And I love that they got to experience it.

TG was never my favorite, though I respected them. There were three that comprised perhaps half of my listening at the time: Skinny Puppy, Einsturzende Neubauten, and then Coil. Of course there were many, many others.

As a so-called child of the 60s who is now living in their 60s, I can’t honestly remember when I first came across the concept of irony. But when I saw the picture and the name together I thought it was somewhat ironic. If I was a little old lady, I’m sure I’d be more than happy to bring home that record just for the nice picture, remembering that once before I had a copy of metal machine music

The guy is a complete freak, victimised by his intellectualism, but, I’ve seen a psychic tv live RU-vid clip and it’s really good quality music. The type we were always looking for but could never find. I’ve never heard any music nerd mention them. I’m a cynic of music but I rate theirs first class.

The first time I heard Hamburger Lady I didn't think too much of it, mostly because I had read an article about it and knew what to expect. It wasn't until a few years later when I was listening to a tape I had recorded from the radio playing at a very low volume. The volume was so low it had that ambient quality to it. When Hamburger Lady came on I didn't recognize it at first. The weird stuttering vocal effect and the repetitive drone were competing for my attention and I was seriously creeped out. It wasn't until I got close to the speakers that i realized what i was listening to.

Great video man. However Genesis told me at his house that Pink Floyd was the first industrial band. He saw them build a table onstage and drank tea off it. All mic work. I was surprised to hear him say that. He was a Syd Barrett fan. So there it is. From Gen himself. Pink Floyd 1st industrial band

interesting. i would say that listening to a saucerful of secrets and the piper at the gates of dawn in 1970 made it easy for me to slip into throbbing gristle when they came around in 1975. both bands for me were more for private listening to than say throwing them on at a party. but i will say this: throbbing gristle along with brian eno could clear out a certain part of the crowd at a party and those that remained i knew were the ones i really wanted to party with.....

I really like both Psychic TV and Throbbing Gristle musically, and in interviews P-Orridge always seemed like a very sweet and charming person. But all the anti-Catholic, borderline/sometimes explicitly Satanic and occult stuff makes me really uncomfortable. I guess that's by design, but ehhh, I dunno. Anyone who is that anti-Jesus makes me go "what is your agenda really?"
