For any of you who didn't know the missing space is still there. When you rearrange the cookie instead of the missing space being in one spot, the whole cookie is decreased in size just slightly to where it only looks like it is still there.
For those of you that dont understand the edge of the cookies have about a 60 degree angle which hides the empty space below the cookies if you spin them

For those of you who don't know why this works: The four big cookies don't actually fully fill the box. They just look like they do, but the reality is the area of the cookie in the middle is taken evenly from the outer square of all 4 cookies together. If you take that space and add it up, it equals the area of the original cookie.

I get how this works..you move the missing area into many smaller missing areas so there’s an illusion that it’s full again. But if you look closely, you can still see the lines around the cookie.

The cookies did not fill the square fully when they were rearranged. They left long gaps on the sides. The area of the gaps are distributed in a way that makes us perceive that the square is fully covered.
For those who don't understand, I'll explain it as best as I can. When removing the middle part, we only remove a little amount. That way, when rotating the remaining pieces, the amount of cookie removed from the middle is the same as the amount in the cracks of the cookie. This only happens because of the angle we cut the cookie, plus the amount we want to leave in the middle to make it appear as the same size, and that amount of cookie being put in the cracks to make it appear as if none were removed. Hope I explained it well.
For those who don't know, the "new" square has some wiggle room at the line, and doesn't fully fill it like it did before. That extra space is that square that was removed. Edit: Why are there so many likes isn't this common knowledge

I watched a video about this. From my understanding, the cookies may appear to fill the whole square, but an area of space too slim for our eyes to see adds up to the missing piece. So basically it’s like filling up as much space as you can, while trying to spread out the missing area of the object. The video used Alice in Wonderland as an example, where the Queen of Hearts captured Alice, and would let her go on one account. If she could explain the following phenomenon. There was a 55 area square on the ground, and the queen states that 54 can also fill in the square. Her husband disagrees and points out that 54 is not the same as 55 and therefore cannot account for the same amount of space. The queen then calls in four shapes of different areas, and orders them to fill in the square. All the areas add up to 55, so they fill in the square. A new set of shapes comes in, and also fill in the square. However, the areas only add up to 54. Alice is confused, and drinks a potion to shrink her size. She wanders over the square and discovers a tiny sliver stretching from corner to corner in between the shapes. The sliver is what’s supposed to account for the missing 1. So I guess the moral of the story is to always trust mathematical thinking, instead of what our own eyes might tell us or something. Ok, apparently I just started a war in the replies, and y’all saying you ain’t reading all this, so I’ll try my best to sun it up for you. So basically I referenced a Ted-Ed video that talks about 55 and 54 both managing to apparently fill up the same amount of space. However, we discover that in the number 54, there is actually a very slim amount of space in between the shapes, which adds up to the missing square. That shouldn’t be be that long, and I apologize for sounding like a “🤓☝️” or something, and writing a lot. 😅 And, my dear friend DragonQueen16547 has clarified that I am, indeed, in the feminine division. Not THAT hard. ^^;; Before the center piece is removed the top two cookies clearly go over the lines. But after it's removed they fall well within the lines. Also all cookies just seem to move inwards a little bit without the center piece and after rotating.
FYI - If you order a Curiosity Box for someone’s birthday and it’s weeks late, and you try to cancel, you’ll get a nasty response from their customer service. Then they’ll keep charging you even after you do manage to cancel it. A credit card dispute is your only recourse. UPDATE: This saga started in December. Today is April 11th. After TWO credit card disputes, we just got an email saying another box is on its way. 😂 UPDATE #2: The box arrived. Whether through incompetence or by design, we were not charged for it. This is only a guess, but I bet their supply issues are exacerbated by (1) insisting that every item in the box be branded to Curiosity Box, which necessarily bogs down production, and (2) including a nice little booklet that tells you everything that’s inside. If Item X isn’t ready in time, you can’t just leave it out or swap it for Item Y. It’s in the booklet! This leaves them hamstrung. Anyway, the contents were great, as always, so I really hope they get their logistics (and customer service) under control.

I know exactly why this works. It's basically a really small triangle it takes away on each side when you rotate and if you add the area of each small triangle it equals the area of the small square you take away.
