Of the headstones I've seen and worked on, the ones that are broken always capture my heart and attention. Thank you for helping tell the story of the Weeks family, it tells us there is something here worth preserving.

Dr. John Griffiths Weeks was my 5th cousin 6 times removed. This family lost 6 children , one at 7, one was 4 years old and 3 were infants. Their first born was killed at age 19 early in the Civil War at Ft. Donelson, TN. Life was hard, sad story. We are more connected than we know. Thank you for your kindness.

I have a brother and a nephew who were both stillborn, nearly 30 years apart. Neglected or forgotten infant graves always make me sad, so seeing someone like you taking the time to restore the stone for these babies means so, so much. No disrespect to the vets or to historic folks, but their graves will always get tended by someone. Who knows if there are any remaining Weeks collateral descendants who know about these children?
@moretoexplore6736

Agreed. this information is so important to genealogy. I'm 65 and during research, I learned that my great-grandmother had stillborn twins. No one knows where the babies were buried, they are not in the local Cemetery. I learned about them only 10 years ago.

I could almost imagine the peace souls of the parents watching over and be such amazed over a man some 150 or so years later, taking the time to painstakingly preserve the memory of their children who were lost so long ago. ❤

Exactly what I was thinking! Among the victims when Mount Vesuvius blew its top in 79 AD was a woman running from the lava with a baby clasped to her chest and holding a small child's hand. The pyroclastic flow and ash from the lava preserved the bodies of the little family for more than 2,000 years and left me sobbing in grief for people I never knew, just as this little headstone did. John Donne summarized the best of our species when he wrote "Therefore send not to know for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee."

Love your careful, meticulous restorations. The work you do is so obviously a labor of love and respect and such a deeply moving experience to witness. The fact that you research the people whose stones you work on and establish a human connection speaks volumes about your character. I'm so glad you chose to post this older footage. I've missed watching you work and bring order to chaos and return beauty to brokenness.

In sycamore Illinois there is a county cemetery. The county has replaced all the old decayed headstones. So many of them simply read unknown. A few say train accident victim or accident victim. It’s hard to comprehend families that lost loved ones and never knew their fate.

Historically if the remains couldn't be visually identified or connected with the person or family based on clothing or physical artifacts like jewelry they didn't always have a lot to go on. In more recent times it's easy to take some photos and preserve the body in a morgue for later identification. Back then there would have been a lot of incentive to hurry up and bury them already.

I'm on a cemetery board for a small, rural cemetery in British Columbia. I've noticed that back in the "old days" babies and infants were often buried in the tiny space between 2 adult burials. It is heartening to see you take such care and respect in restoring these children's headstones. Keep up the excellent work! 🥰

You have inspired me. I spent some time at the local cemetery in my town in Oklahoma. I have replaced photo plaques on three different graves using epoxy resin. One for an 8yr old boy who died of supposed heart failure in the 30's. I even found the old house he lived in and a few of his relatives here in my town! There is so much to learn and I absolutely love it. Thank you!

Wonderful to watch you sir, you repair these headstones as a true act of respect and love. Unfortunately, here in South Africa we have people that do not respect the dead at all, they desecrate, steal from and damage graves until there is nothing left. Out of spite. It is heartbreaking to visit a loved ones grave, just to see that is has been desecrated by these thugs.

I don’t know how long I will be able to keep this up because I am a 74 year old young widow. I go to the cemetery where my father’s grave, who was a POW in World War Two, my mother and my husband who was also a veteran of 30 years in the Navy. It is sad to see so many graves that are not taken care of so what you are doing is a blessing to the families even if they are no longer around . Keep doing this wonderful thing and God bless you. 🙏
