The analogy is that if another student gives you their homework they wont have their own to turn in and if they tore it in half nobody would have a full homework page. So instead one copies the others homework so you both have it. This is like the cell because it duplicates its dna to make another cell instead of just getting rid of it's own dna to make another cell.
