I apologize if this is a dumb question: Would they use both the Mk238 High Explosive Incendiary rounds and 30x173 mm High Explosive Proximity rounds in the same feed? If so, would they use the proximity rounds first or vice-versa?

The RWS looks a bit jury rigged some covers over the working parts at the rear of the mount and some overall refinement would be nice but at least it has a programmable airburst capability. Dual feed is definitely the way to go if possible for the reasons listed below. Using the Mk44 Bushmaster II with 40×180mm ammunition is a huge improvement over 25mm and 30mm according to the test data that has been compiled since development and testing began on the ammunition. Also when using 40×180mm ammunition the fluted barrel diameter at the muzzle brake end of the barrel needs to be increased so the barrel ends up nearly parallel which reduces the barrel flex. The French and the British went with 40mm case telescoped ammunition for a reason it is the sweet spot for size versus performance and lethality. Supershot 40 which was originally designed in the eighties is a better round than the current CTA ammunition and has the capability to stop large drones and some missles using the programmable airburst capability in the 40×180mm ammunition size if the RWS is accurate enough. So in one feed of the dual feed gun a version of 40×180mm ammunition similar to 3P ammunition could be used with a programmable airburst feature and a physical contact explosive feature as well as an inert non explosive feature. Also an armour piercing tungsten carbide 40×180mm APFSDS-T round could be used in the other feed of the gun. So in both feeds of the dual feed gun the operator would have virtually every capability needed by using both types of ammunition in both feeds of the one gun. An excellent way to equip an armoured vehicle as every capability needed for all types of targets is met by using only two types of 40×180mm ammunition without the need to load any other type of specialised round. The performance increase and cost savings using this type of equipment with the airburst capability and dual feed system included in the design as well as only having to use two types of 40×180mm ammunition are very substantial to say the least. 😎🇦🇺👍

This is essentially the new Mk.38 mod 4... And the Navy needs to get it on literally every ship ASAP that includes the Constellation I don't understand why there's no plans for Mk.38 on there at all! I have a design to upgrade this and other chain guns . Cost and machining time is low - the benefit to our forces are great . Still wondering, would it be easier and faster to implement if I sold this design to your company- or went through the headache and piles of paperwork required for the BATFE just to start building my own complete system to then turn around and again , sell it you your company. I started working on medium caliber weapon designs as a hobby . Since my old hobby of painting turned out to be a lucrative career later in life .

Look at that stupid barrel wobble, and that's despite the fluting. I think I finally understand that instead of balancing everything correctly and kill those oscilations US chainguns deliberately fire slower to let the barrel "calm down" between each shot.
