#modes #explained #easy
Finally! The best first video on explaining the modes! Well, we're pretty biased about that... haha.
Modes are usually explained being based off the major scale.
Key points from this video:
Major minor minor Major Major minor Diminished
That's the order of harmony in the major scale:
I ii iii IV V vi viio (supposed to look like a degree symbol)
Written with roman numerals it looks like above.
Each mode starts on one of those numbers and moves forward in order.
Mode 1: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Mode 2: 2 3 4 5 6 7 1
Mode 3: 3 4 5 6 7 1 2
Mode 4: 4 5 6 7 1 2 3
Mode 5: 5 6 7 1 2 3 4
Mode 6: 6 7 1 2 3 4 5
Mode 7: 7 1 2 3 4 5 6
The order of major minor minor etc.... will change because of where you started. But if you start on that spot and go from there, you will get the new order.
Mode 1: Natural Major Scale
Mode 6: Natural Minor Scale
(These two are the most important!)
Hope this helps!
