This was such a historical day for both Chuck Yeager and America 🇺🇸. I’m still amazed at how Chuck managed to break the sound barrier having 3 broken ribs at the time of the flight.

When he said the Mach meter was broken, that was code. He was telling them he broke the sound barrier. It was in case the Russians were listening. There was nothing wrong with the meter. No one was watching and waiting on the ground except the engineers and the people involved in the test. Only they knew about it. He did in fact have broken ribs.

This is so awesome. I remember hearing sonic booms from concords leaving Nashville airport when I was in Elementary School. It was the coolest thing.
