"Go get me some more wine and cigarettes during my solo. And if you find any of my rotten teeth, put them in the baby food jar on my tech's table. Thanks buddy."
First off I agree this video was click bait but I wanted to share a VH Story of my own. I’m guessing it was around 1996, VH had a concert here in Sacramento. At the time I worked for Sac county at the General Aviation facility at Sacramento International Airport (it may have still been called Metro at the time). My job was to park aircraft and assist as needed, fuel, catering, transportation etc. Well everyone but Sammy flew in on a Gulfstream aircraft. Nothing much to say the band came in got off the plane and into their limos and off they went. They didn’t acknowledge myself or anyone else. No big deal, a lot of celebrities who came in did the same. Later a King Air came in and onboard was Sammy Hagar. We had the limo standing by and Sammy came out smiling and waved at us said a courtesy “Hello, how you doing” and got in the limo. The limo stayed on the ramp for a minute or two as myself and my partner went back in the building to await the pilots fuel order. As the limo started to leave I figure it would just go out the gate but it stopped in front of our building and Sammy came running in. He was so happy and he wanted us to see a magic trick that his limo driver just did for him. So the driver comes in and pulls out a dollar and he made the dollar float between his hands. Sammy was tripped out! We all laughed and Sammy stayed and chatted with us for a little bit longer before leaving. Very cool guy. As I said most people just get into their cars and leave. So now the concert is over and the links are returning. 2 limos were pulling up to the security gate. Following these limos were a bunch of cars-fans which were following the band. At this point I’m by myself. I let the first limo in which contained Eddie his manager and maybe some others from the band I don’t know, but I do know those two were in. I had to close the gate before the second limo could get in as the cars would have rushed the gate and then I would have had a bunch of fans on the tarmac. So I call over the radio and request sheriff assistance for crowd control. Well this is where shit goes bad. Eddie sees the second limo not being let in and starts yelling at me to open the gate. I try. And explain the situation and he doesn’t care he is cursing me big time. The fans are getting wound up and feeding off his energy are yelling at me. Eddie actually threatened to kick my ass. Well I had to get on the other side of the gate as the fans were also getting hostile so I used the walk in gate 115 to badge in real quick as I awaited the sherrifs. Eddie sees me now on the inside of the gate and he comes down from the plane and quickly walks to me-he is pissed. By this point I’m pissed too, I thought Eddie and I were actually going to fight. His manager quickly got in between us and sent Eddie back on the plane. I remember seeing Eddie spit on the ramp, not at me just on the ramp cursed a few more times and walked back inside the plane. The manager apologized and said it was a long night and Eddie wanted to eat dinner at the venue after the show but Mike didn’t want to stay and eat instead he just wanted to leave. So Eddie’s behavior was basically because he was “Hangry”. Whatever, as far as I was concerned at the time he was just an ass to someone who was trying to do their job and safeguard him and the aircraft at the same time. Anyway during the managers explanation our sheriffs showed up and moved the crowd back. I was then able to get the gate open and the limo through the gate. They loaded up and off they went without anymore issue. I was still pissed off though thinking Eddie was a dick. About 45 minutes later maybe an hour after the Gulf Stream departed another limo showed up. No one was following this limo and I was able to open the gate without any issues and the limo drove to the King Air to let Sammy board. About 20 minutes later Sammy walked in and said “heard things got a little rough with our other plane” I said something like ‘yeah it got interesting’. I remember Sammy saying something like ‘we all have bad days sometimes’ then he apologized, “sorry about that, and thank you for your help” He then asked where the bathroom was, I told him. Few minutes later he came back gave some more small talk still in a good mood and then departed. Sammy was very cool, Eddie, on this day, to me at least, not so cool. But like Sammy said we all have bad days. When I later heard a few months later that Sammy was out of VH it didn’t surprise me. It’s very weird to see the lead singer fly in another airplane separate from the main group. Add to that the different personalities between the two, it’s probably good that Sammy got out. I will never deny the genius Eddie was musically or the great and classic songs he helped create, songs that I still listen to today, but as a person-based on my limited experience with him, well it wasn’t the best impression left on me. I’m sure I left him with a bad impression of myself as well. Anyway there is my little VH story
I just looked up that concert. It was May 15, 1995 during the Balance tour-so I was off by a year. Slash’s Snakepit opened for them. Didn’t see Slash. That would have been cool.
I have never heard a person give a bad account of Sammy. He just seems to be a completely awesome, nice and cool regular guy with amazing talent and happens to be a mega star. Eddie was a once-in-a-century talent who revolutionized the instrument and music itself. But yeah, he had personal issues, it seems. I dont know why some people can achieve such stardom yet remain so down to earth like Sammy.
Oh boy Ed was looked really tough on this tour. I heard an interview with Sammy and he went on about how bad this tour with Ed's drinking and other stuff. Michael was the hardest working band member in Van Halen, great guy.
Errr.... Poor Mikey got paid shit. His cut was more like 5 to 7%. I saw this tour, two days before on 9/9/24 in St. Pete. Eddie sucked so bad I was embarrassed for him. He wrote notes on the back of his guitar neck to remind him where his solos go. But yeah, I can only imagine dealing with that crackhead.
@@ann-nicolejade8292 Seriously? Eddie was a needle junkie since the early 80's as well as an alcoholic and chain smoker. He and Valerie would shoot up together. Read her book!
On the 2004 tour, "Best Of Both Worlds" was always followed by Eddie's solo. Usually, Alex and Mike would stay on stage for the start, and then Eddie would turn and they would do the crescendo for "Eruption".... after which Mike and Alex would exit and Eddie would do the rest of his solo. However, on some nights, Eddie wouldn't do the crescendo. In fact, there was one show (New Jersey, night one) where Alex and Mike were waiting for Eddie to turn and cue them, and he never did. After a while, Alex look at Mike, shrugged, and they both left the stage without playing it. Obviously, Eddie's behavior during this tour is pretty well documented.
No one should thank the other one. They were band. Whatever happened stays with them as a band for good. I love VH 2nd Formation's era entirely. Yes, entirely, including their 2004 reunion.
I dont get why people gotta shit on someone who is deceased. Let it go. EVH is the 🐐 & thats how Ill ALWAYS remember him. People can say(or get printed in biographies) whatever they want. Let it go & enjoy the great music he left us.
He said "you are one heck of a bass player but I need you to step back a bit and stop playing because I need to do my thing without any bass or you being on stage when I'm soloing". Taken from an interview in September 12, 2004.
What the hell are you talking about? If you don't know what he said, you can't say this stupid line.. "one thing for sure is that the way Mike moved his body shows me that Eddie had asked him to go to the dressing for a rest because he wanted to jam with Alex Van Halen."
I’m truly sorry if you were (or still are) hurt watching the video and reading the description. I didn’t mean to. So, here’s the deal. Why don’t you upload the same video but with a different description? You can write whatever you think that Eddie might have said to Mike. And I promise I’ll comment to it nicely.
Greetings from Jundiaí, Brazil 🙏🙏🙏 I was in the United States back in 2010 during my 2-month student exchange program in Springfield, Illinois. During that time, I met a gentleman who worked as a security guard for the band during their 2004 tour. He told me terrible stories about what happened behind the scenes. According to him, there was always a bunch of rifts, strife, verbal altercations, fights, threats and too much confusion during that whole tour. He said it seemed like a battlefield, a warzone and he thought that a tragedy was about to start. In order to try to diminish the war zone, Eddie & Alex + Sammy & Mike had to sleep in different hotels, be chartered by different vans, travel on separate flights, their meals at different restaurants, dress up in different dressing rooms and get on and off stage from different sides and when their apart was unavoidable, Eddie & Alex just spoke in dutch ir order to ignore Sammy & Mike. That's very sad to know that.
Take a guess. Edward was doing a lot of drugs back then. Unfortunately, including crystal methamphetamine Do you think he was making rational judgments?
@@RGZ112 I didn’t know he was using that. I mean, I knew that he was drinking, but I didn’t know that. Makes sense now. I think that it was entirely possible that they would actually reunite if Ed wasn’t in the shape that he was. I’d have to ask Sam or Mikey to know for sure, but maybe it’s just my past wishful thinking. Anyway, I’m glad that it didn’t end this way. Nowadays, (off topic) I don’t get Dave busting the balls of Wolfie. Isn’t that odd? And where’s Al?
@@foley15136 yeah, using some of those drugs were one of the primary reasons why Ed lost his teeth. To answer the rest of your questions, you would have to be following the Van Halen drama for a really long time 1
The tour was a disaster from the start, this was probably Eddie at his worst due to his drinking, playing solos throughout the whole show, and how would anyone know what he said to Michael
LOOOL you create so much drama from nothing. Im kinda impressed. Plus you actually used the phrase "...it was not Eddie's guitar solo that I am writing about herein" in the description. looool if this is a schtick channel and you do this all the time, I dig it.
Clickbait. Ed's solo was coming on so everyone was already leaving, if anything he was probably trying to catch mike to tell him something before mike ran off.
This, and by body language at all, Ed wasn't being threatening, almost hugging Mike and Mike agreed to whatever, turned off with his foot what he needed and backed up for his solo. Was probably telling Mike about the queue in to Eruption and to give Al the instruction on when to jump in.
" is that the way Mike moved his body shows me that Eddie had asked him to go to the dresssing for a rest because he wanted to jam with Alex Van Halen." An ASSumption and total B$.
Eddie and Alex were awful Bandmates to Michael and Sammy! They treated both of these guys POORLY! You can blame alcohol and drugs for Eddie’s behavior but, I don’t know what excuse Alex can come up with! It proves that you can be an awesome musician and an ASSHOLE at the same time! I’m so glad that Sammy and Michael are having fun playing in CHICKENFOOT together! Two really down to earth, Great Guys!
You were able to discern that from this video? Well I think Ed told him there was cake in the dressing room and Mike didn't believe it at first but he's going to check it out.
Eddie Van Halen and his Brother were Both Jerks to the people that surrounded them.! They were A- Holes to the Great Sammy Hagar & One of the best bass players in tenor vocalists Michael Anthony
I saw VH on their first album tour in 1978 and 4 more times after that. Eddie was always drunk and played sloppy. David Lee Roth was always great, so was Michael Anthony. I love their albums but very disappointed in Eddie not doing his best to put on a good show.
SAY WHAT U WANT ABOUT ED BUT THERE WOULD BE NO VAN HALEN WITHOUT HIM!!!!!!! YOU COULD REPLACE THE DRUMMER, THE VOCAL OR THE BASS, BUT NOT THE GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, if that's true, its a blackeye on Eddie's reputation. He was not looking to good there. Sammy did mention about the tour. People with all the money, freedom, access, and addiction don't usually don't fare to well. 😢
So what's your point , They all do solo's in their shows . Mikey had his turn as well . I think you are insinuating Ed told Mike to leave . That's not the case .
lol so what? You are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. He could have let Mike know that his solo was coming up and Mike could go take a rest. Do you really think musicians don't meed a break when they are playing? If not you clearly don't play an instrument.
You are correct...Sammy s tour this summer...might be interesting. Satriani is gonna play 5150...so that's cool...and Mike anthony is just as cool as John Paul jones....those 2 will always be monster legends no matter what
Ed said negative things about dave all the time when they kicked him out, then they did the same to sammy, people who are always talking negative about people are the ones you need to stay away from, they are toxic
