Absolutely. A lot of people who work in that field or the medical field get desensitized to things they see. So they don’t remember what it was like to have never seen something so traumatic. That cop did a great job at remembering that most people don’t see this sort of thing regularly.
police were questioning him so casually, not even taking a alcohol test after the horrendous act. On other hand, i saw a video who a woman who was pleasing herself alone on beach, someone reported her and the way police was questioning her was if she committed 100 mass mur ders. She later committed suicide
this was a liberal judge.. appointed by a liberal gov (dayton).. also remember its the DA who decides the charges and the elected liberals who set the sentencing guidelines by passing judicial legislation.. this is Tim Walz Minnesota.. . update : this judge kelly olmstead is the same judge who acquitted a triple-homicide defendant earlier last year.. . (edited after enough comments abt my horrendous typing.. sorry..)
He was on a bunch of prescription drugs and wasn't aware of his actions. He's going to live with the guilt. Making him stay in jail longer isn't going to bring people back from the dead.
@happicheshirecat it is possibly. That's when he's eligible for parole. Assuming he isn't causing problems in prison he will get out in 8 years and serve the remaining 4 and a half on probation
@guitartalks4507 must be true. I had a friend that got 12 years for aggravated armed robbery.....and this dude gets the same time for taking a life...
One of the most disturbing parts of this video is the guy talking to his wife / girlfriend and saying over and over “I’m sorry I did this to you”. What about what he did to the victim?
@@BeenSlaiyan I'm sure if he was speaking to the deceased's family, he would be. Why would he need to apologize to his wife for what he did to someone else? That part of the apology goes to that person or family.
@@Jackie-ek6gy I guess you’ve never been in love with someone because what happens to one spouse very much impacts the other; so an apology would be totally warranted when one spouse destroys their life, impacting the other to whose life the offending spouse has become attached
Exactly, and she (the victim) was sober doing what most normal people do innocently in their yards. Tragic that she lost her life, condolences to her family.
@@bargtayrepent 🫵🤡 some things are beyond repent. This is one of them. What a f’n joke you religiously delusional f*** head. Pray and you’re forgiven? You need a wake up call
That's how black privilege works. If they do one good thing once ever or just promise they might be good soon then all their sins are immediately mitigated.
It's not a great reflection on society that he's immediately going on about raising the bond to get out and the state of the car he killed with. I'm fairly sure, half the planet would think similar thoughts in his shoes, though, sadly.
That exact line is what brought me to the comment section. NO CONSIDERATION FOR OTHER HUMAN LIFE, someone is FKN dead but he is all about making it up to his wife. I would top myself if i found out i had done that!
My grandma lived with me the last 6 years of her life and was hit and killed as well. She was walking our dog… crossing the street at a cross walk that she had a green light for and another woman ran the red light and killed both my grandma and our dog. She got nothing more than a ticket for running the red light, and tried to fight that. I completely broke down sobbing listening to this man tell his wife over the phone that he killed someone, with absolutely zero remorse, picturing it was my grandma that he was talking about. I know exactly how this woman’s family feels. In October it will have been three years. Sometimes justice prevails, but far too frequently it fails victims and their families.
I got hit in a crosswalk while walking my dog. The person backed up, drove around us, then left the scene leaving us sprawled and bleeding in the road. Luckily neither me or my dog were seriously hurt.
My dad was a cop for 38 years. When he was a rookie, he responded to the hit and run of a 3-year old girl. He kept the newspaper clipping for the rest of life. He had no other newspaper clippings in his personal effects. It stuck with him.
'I'll make it up to you'??? Disgusting human being. As a former medic, I cannot tell you how many of these calls we responded to. The guilty NEVER got it. Ever.
Been there done that. Seen too many hit and run too. But to take a person out of both their shoes! Usually it's only 1 shoe but to knock someone out of both, just shows you how fast he had to be going !
He has zero remorse and the woman on the phone needs to run fast away from him. Eight years for killing an innocent woman pulling weeds from her lawn….that is criminal and the court didn’t give her any justice
@@benjaminharrisiv650 he is only sorry how it is effecting the woman on the phone. Him saying he will make it up to her….well he can’t make it up to the woman he killed. Not once does he say I feel horrible I killed a person.
When the officer gave a hug to the witness; she knows how traumatizing it is to see this stuff, and what an amazing soul she has to comfort someone else who had to deal with that.
I saw that, as well. At one point, she looked as though she might throw up. The officer noticed, as well, and suggested that she might want to sit down.
Only 8 years minimum for getting high on fent and flattening somebody's grandma? That's a JOKE. That judge seriously needs to be investigated, absolutely unreal.
That’s the problem with people like this . For example when there in court getting there sentence the judge will let them have there last words when they do start apologizing they never look at the victims they apologize to the judge hopefully it will hopefully benefit them but they never look at the victims and truly show some kind compassion that they made a huge mistake but that never happens in court with these criminals I’m just giving you my thoughts and opinion only. Thank you
Exactly! When he says, I'm so sorry, you know that, right? then he's asking about the car, she angrily replies, "the car is totaled". This piece of garbage has not even a thought about the person whose throat was ripped open by his car.
In 1986, my 19 year old friend was intentionally ran over with a car during a fight. The guy got 3 years for killing him. Our justice system has always been flawed.
8 years for violently killing an elderly woman...her shoes were at least 50 feet from her body...are you kidding me??? This drug addict should have spent the rest of his life behind bars.
Demoncrats are OUT OF CONTROL. And lemme tell you I am NOT republicans in the slightest, but at this point they are disproportionately causing chaos and rewarding evil people. I live in CA where our DA made PDF Files a MISDEMEANOR !!!!
7:33 this is a cop. Hugging citizens and telling them they have there back and there sorry. Very compassionate officer. Deserves some of the highest recognition for her empathy
@@benjaminharrisiv650you keep using that same “it was a mistake” in every reply…not sure if you’re fishing for attention, or related to the killer, but you can’t use that word for this. A mistake is accidentally turning on your left blinker when you’re turning right. Getting doped up on fentanyl, opiates and benzos and getting in a car and hitting a woman in her own yard killing her is borderline premeditated 1st degree, definitely 2nd degree…NOT A FREAKIN MISTAKE
@@benjaminharrisiv650 It is not a mistake to be reckless. It is a choice. A bad decision. Bad choices lead to something called consequences. When you drive that way, whether is be under the influence, or texting; you are making a choice, not a mistake. This could have been prevented.
Did anyone else notice how during the jail conversation with his wife, they both talked about the condition of their vehicle, bail money, drugs, etc but then chose till the very end to FINALLY mention that he killed someone. The way they talked about it was extremely non challant, no type of remorse, sympathy, empathy or even 💔. Almost as if they were ordering some 🍕. I have absolutely no words for these folks! We get way more love and sympathy from our 🐕🐾 than we do from humans! Unbelievable! 🤔🤨😒👎🏾
He's worried about his car??? He just took a life!!! Why does he even get a bond? That's a murderer... keep him in jail... and an 8 year sentence is a joke! A life is worth nothing...
Well yeah, but he wasn't talking to the victims family at that time. He was talking to his wife who was also affected by his actions that day in a negative way (not like the victim or their family of course)... Plus, people always say that, but when the criminals do apologize to the victims family, it just makes them mad 9 times out of 10.
3:00 This witness is trying her absolute hardest to stay strong and deal with the trauma she will likely face after seeing what she saw. I don't know why this stood out to me so much but absolutely powerful W woman right here. I hope she is able to get past this day.
Unbelievable. You know this probably wasn’t the first time he drove under the influence. To only give him 12.5 years and be eligible for parole after 8 is ridiculous.
He had done it before and from the conversion with his wife, I believe they both used drugs. She had already contacted a bondsman so, this was obviously not his or her first rodeo.
That's partially the fault of that state's governor, whose name is Tim Walz, and who is running for Vice President of the country as Kamala Harris's pick. The whole country will see sentences like this if they win.
12 years for killing someone is insufficient! That lady’s life was taken and her family will never get to see her again yet he can get out in 8 years and live his life. People with drug addiction and/or selling drugs, get more time in prison than that. Prayers to her loved ones 🙏🏾
My 19-year old friend (at the time) robbed 2 old men for their guns and pistol-whipped at least one of them and got caught later that night and given 12 years on a plea deal. Had he gone to trial and lost, he was facing 40 years. Then there's people like this guy who gets drugged up and kills someone and get the same sentence. Bs.
I had planned to pursue a career in law enforcement after my navy career but having to learn to deal with exactly this kind of situation was what changed my mind. That hug request shows that these officers are people too and it has to be so hard to see this kind of senseless tragedy day after day and not have it really mess you up. I think that hug was as much for the officer as it was for the witness.
I just read about a MN guy who drove over two ppl walking on a side walk killing a woman. He had a high BA level too....he got 5 yrs PROBATION....Injustice
8 years for a drug addict murdering a woman with his car and driving off. The Judge needs to be removed from the bench for that. He needs 30 years no parole.
@dmc3489 Yes. Correct. Voting for republicans means more negative effects on society, including more hard drug abuse due to horrible policies and conditions that people must live under.
@@dmc3489ignoring maximum sentences, he was 63 at the time, which was likely taken into account. He effectively got life. I’d be shocked if he’s released before he dies. Don’t be dense when conservatives only remember to be tough on crime when it’s time to get elected.
Good for you, friend. I wasn't a driver for the most part but I am 11 and a half months without a drink and am soooo gald I never put someone's family through what those poor folks dealing with.
I'm sure it hasn't been easy, I'm just starting my road to recovery after five years of spiraling. I'm glad that you recognized a problem and became a stronger, better person and overcame that dreadful poison, not a lot of people can do what you've done. I am rooting for you, you give me hope!
This is car v person, and it always ends that way. As far as drunks in wrecks, I've heard something about how because they're out of it and more relaxed, they're less likely to tense up and cause a neck injury or something. I'm not sure if that's scientific though
@@ashleyschmitt32 same difference right? We just don't say the phrase "the fentanyls" since it doesn't really roll off the tongue. Were you trying to imply this situation is made different by that?
Neither he nor his wife displayed any remorse or emotions for that poor woman he killed. This is shocking! The family should sue him in a civil court for wrongful death.
It sounds like she is pretty traumatized by what he did by saying she cant sleep or eat. She sounded angry with him. He seemed to be begging for forgiveness to me and she isnt so sure shes gonna give it.
@@thebrittanykoala He's clearly an addict and totally out of it. I saw someone clearly high on fentanyl get in an accident near my house a few years back. He was completely out of his head. People in this situation have pretty much lost control. It's a tragedy. I have no idea how long the right prison sentence is. To me it's either the light sentence that he got, or life, because there was zero premeditation, probably some degree of addiction, and such severe intoxication that he didn't know what planet he was on when he was driving like that. Horrible all around.
@@thebrittanykoala She sounds like she is numb/trying to process stuff. Exactly what I was thinking. He doesn't give a f#$% that he killed someone. He's just worried about his car, clarifying he couldn't have been on coke, and being on good terms with his wife(he's gonna need that last one if he wants those snacks and phone calls in jail).
That sentence made me sick. I used to work as a CO4 in Texas, and quit when a kid got brought in for a 50 year sentence, just for possession of excessive quantities of marijuana. Why are drug charges worse than this?
It’s disgraceful and disgusting. People are spending years in jail for a PLANT when people are killing others and getting lighter sentences. They are on the cusp of making marijuana legal all over the US though. It’s becoming legal in Ohio and hopefully my state, KY, will soon follow. Unfortunately that does nothing for the people dying senselessly though.
That pos deserves life in prison plus 50 yrs for not caring how can someone hit a person and just keep going because I’m pretty sure that he knew he hit a person
I was hit by a car going 40 miles/hr while walking. She tried to drive away but there was too much traffic and people were taking her plate number down. My shoes flew off my feet and I was lying in the bushes 25 ft away. I was very lucky and received 8 stitches on my elbow and a torn meniscus. The Dr. said 85% of people hit by cars as a pedestrian going at that speed either are crippled for life or don’t make it. She was sober and I felt bad for her due to her husband dying from cancer. That poor innocent woman. 😢 Sending prayers to her loved ones. 🙌🏼🤍🕊️🙏

Please do not forget that the officer is also human. Civilian or police, what is the difference? She's a civilian too if she changes career. I know that she is just forcing herself to deal with it well because of her job. In reality this is all an act. She is acting like an officer because it is her job. In the end she is human same as those 2 other ladies. She will be waking up in the morning thinking about this for a long time to come. I know an officer who has to throw in the towel because of what she had seen causing so much stress
My 20 year old cousin was hit crossing the street and killed. Just hearing the cop say omg about her injuries hurt my heart. We found her shoes at the scene too on the side of the road. Our family has never been the same. It’s only been 5 months. Praying for her family.
Praying for you and your family too. This is such a horrible tragedy. Mini commenters are sharing similar same. The justice system is broke for sure. Justice is for the criminals and not law. Abiding citizens minding their own business going about their day.😢
A month ago I was walking home from a fun night out had taken the light rail home. One street over from my apartment I was hit and run. I’m really glad someone called 911 for me. Don’t remember getting hit just waking up in the ICU, staying there for 5 days and my sister telling me what happened. Brain bleeding, facial fractures, nerve damage, compound fracture broken leg. Needed 50 stitches on my arms and legs surgery to get a metal rod knee to ankle lots of cuts and scraps. I’m still alive could have been so much worse. Family has taken good care of me didn’t go home to my apartment for three weeks.
It disgusts me how he tried to sound innocent because he 'didn't remember a thing'. He didn't remember anything because he drove high on drugs, the rest of his excuse making is irrelevant.
Or, maybe, *_speeding_* should be punished more severely. Are you going to pretend that had nothing to do with this situation? Most of the time I hear about a DUI fatality there is reckless speed involved also. Between DUI and speeding, only one of the charges is treated with anything resembling severity. A DUI, even without any accidents occurring, will typically alter a person's life rather significantly. Really, increased penalties hit the point of diminishing returns somewhere in the 90s or 2000s. Speeding, on the other hand, is still almost always a slap on the wrist. Even if they're going 95 over 55 or 50 over 25.
@vals_loeder you said "dui." You didn't say "speeding." You didn't say "speeding and dui." Of the two, speeding is really the only one that still could have increased penalties without diminishing returns. It follows that you believe the only operative component to this was the "dui" part.
I love that woman with blue and police interaction. That woman with blue is really good person cuz you can see that she was so angry that she was waiting there without sit to hear that if he was arrested or not.
I think you meant someone with the level of his crime shouldn't get 8years. Drunks/Druggies usually get rehab or 1 day--2 years if any time-served. "Simple Possession" rarely gives 1 year.
First, understand that this is the kind of case felony homicide is made for. He was engaged in a felony, I am assuming from his disorientation, as most states consider very high BAC an aggravating circumstance, that increases charges/penalties. But the 8th amendment is not meant to be a pre-incarceration fine prior to you being convicted of the crime. And that's what it has become in most states with bail bondsman. The purpose for bail is historically (like the newish Bruen factors for 2nd amendment cases) to guarantee your appearance in court. Period. Anything else is current practices being used to validate unconstitutional laws that have gradually eroded our rights. There is nothing unconstitutional. The federal Constitution in denying the accused bail, just that IF bail is granted it must be affordable. Now the court system typically requires a good reason to deny bail, which can be general criminal history, how often they reoffend, and the danger they represent to the community. So with a first DUI you get some pretty draconian punishment. But the second one is the one that's going to put you in prison. If you are caught driving at all after a second DUI with your license suspended, now there's a very good case for denying you bail. Once is a mistake, but this is now a pattern that is dangerous to the general public. His addiction to alcohol is tragic. His inability to control how it affects others is criminal.
8 years and some parole for manslaughter, what an absolute joke. That woman was sentenced to death for the crime of walking outside in her own neighborhood and the man who killed her gets a hard slap on the wrist for it.
It broke my heart when they said her throat was completely gone there was no chance of saving her or final words she was literally ripped away from this earth and silenced forever and no one even had a chance to save her or be with her in her final moment
so should he tell that to the family? He is gonna make it up to the family? bring her back to life, bring them a replacement? pretend to be her? im curious
