Many people don’t know that some Shinto Japanese Buddhist monks do marry, as they need to pass on the Abbot role to their sons. It’s a family business literally. Then there’s the novice-ship period where a man can enter the temple to serve a short period as a monk, to acquire merits.

@Atheist firstly both of them are not religion, they are dharma. We don't have 1 book 1 God theory. Secondly Buddhism is as much as part of sanathan dharma as much as Sikhism, jainisim and other panths of Hinduism. Learn some history and not the one written by invader and westerners who always had Abrahamic lens of watching the things. Learn it from indigenous scholars and writers who actually are aware of our civilization. No offense.

Buddhism has two major types: 1. Mahayana Buddhism is common in East Asia, like China and Japan. 2. Theravada Buddhism spread to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, etc. The point is that Buddhism is more like philosophy than a religion, and this drama is about a Mahayana Buddhist monk's life. So in Mahayana Buddhism, monks can get married, but in Theravada Buddhism, monks can't get married because Theravada Buddhists mostly follow monosatic lives and strive to become arhats and gain freedom from the cycle of samsara. They are more pure than Mahayana Buddhists, but on the other hand, Mahayana Buddhists may choose to stay in the cycle of samsara out of compassion for others so they can live a nomal life while doing prayers and medication BTW, this is such a good drama, and ML's chemistry is so cute🥺❤️
