I've tried the Moog One, it's the most amazing synth I've ever used!!!

Those presets tell me tons about what’s under the hood of the synthesizer. It isn’t just about Moog Music coming up with their first polyphonic in 35 years. It isn’t just about a big box with a bunch of random stuff. Obviously, the programmers of this sucker had in mind to simultaneously give the player a taste of what was immediately comfortable and familiar along with a stab at giving them some fresh ideas. 9:10 The beginning of that improv reminded me in a good way of “I’m So Excited”. These synthesizers allowed you to *exist*, Doc!

That tune you played is called Highland Aire. It was actually written by Lyle Mays, Pat Metheny’s writing partner, collaborator, and piano player (Rest in Peace). It’s off Lyle’s self-titled solo album, which is one of the best albums ever if you ask me

This synth is seriously funky and also warm. It’s something Prince would have used. One of the first presets reminded me of his “Something in the water does not compute” song. It is is so warm and rich sounding.

Hello Dr Mix; I really enjoyed your demo of the Moog One! The melody that you were playing at 13:12 was not by Pat Metheny, but by his long time partner Lyle Mays from I believe his first album which was titled "Lyle Mays". The name of the song is “Highland Aire” a long time favorite of mine! Not do disparage the demos that others post, because all demos are appreciated, but it’s really nice to see a high end synth demoed by someone that can actually play! Thanks!

This was fun to watch Dr. Mix! Your enthusiasm & humour is a nice antidote for the excessively 'serious' business-like 'corporate' environment in the music industry. :) I enjoyed your reference to the sounds produced by Pat Metheny's fantastic keyboard player, Lyle Mays. I don't recognize the melody you played, but Lyle Mays' Moog-ish solos are all over Pat Metheny's first album, "Pat Metheny Group", and another early album, "American Garage". Those two albums still blow me away, as do most of Metheny's music. Even though I tend to listen to rock music while driving (jazz at home), I recall that I made cassette recordings of those albums & listened to them during many late night drives. :) Good memories. :) BTW, I was able to see Metheny in concert with Lyle Mays in the mid-80s, when Mays used his Moog (and perhaps an Oberheim too), and Metheny was also doing some wonderful things with a guitar synth. The show was in a proper concert theatre & it was obvious that all the musicians really cared about the sound quality of the mix...it was as close to perfect as possible.. Such glorious music they produced together!
