"i do think they kinda like each other a bit" "i think its very recognizable they do like each other" "for me they are a little bit in love" IM SCREAMING
Eh. The creators are definitely leaning into it, but the Moomin Official RU-vid Chanell is actually run by the Canadian Company Wildbrain, which bought the rights to distribute the 90s Moomin animated series in Canada via RU-vid and share promos for other Moomin media. So they aren't actually involved with the production or anything.
THE WAY I SAW THIS AND IMMEDIETLY STARTED LAUGHING LMFAOOO TYSM FOR MAKING THIS I HAVENT EVEN WATCHED IT YET BUT THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE IDEA EDIT: HOLY FUCK I THOUGHT IT WAS A JOKE I THOUGHT U WERE GONNA DO A FAKE VOICE OVER BUT ITS????? ACTUALLY???????? REAL??????????????????????? HUH??????????????????????????????????????
I completely freaked out (in a positive way) when I heard this part of the podcast it’s just. Bvnmedbvjhdebvjhdevvhjedbv! “For me they are a little bit in love.” !!! Finally! Yes! This! Abhjfgjh4jehrfg!
The 90s series is good but made their relationship kinda weird, maybe it’s just the English dub that made Snufkin sound like a mature man and Moomin sound like a innocent child
If Moomin and Snufkin are supposed to be gay for each other, why did the comic strip (by Tove) make Snorkmaiden Moomin's girlfriend and constantly keep shipping each other together?
1. Same sex relationships were literally illegal in finland at the time (decriminalizd in 1971 - the comic strips launched in 1947). Even to this day there are unfortunately many, MANY people agants lgbt representation...just imagine what would've been back then 2. Moomin's relationship with Snorkmaiden is a blatant parody of overused and pointless straight relationships in media. They epitomize al the wrong tropes, all the stereotypes of two protagonists who date each oher just "because". There's no actual developement (if not in the new series, sorta?) or chemistry. On the other hand there's a lot of pinig and deep love between Moomin and Snufkin, in the books & any other adaptation. You can read it both as romantic or platonic love, but it's deeper than anything he's got going on with Snorkmaiden
@@mumrikvodnik 1) Then, why give Moomin a girlfriend at all? 2) Then, why does the comic repeatedly have heartwarming moments between if them if it's supposed to be a terrible relationship? Also, it would help if the video cited evidence from Tove's actual Moomin works and not a cartoon made almost two decades after he death.
@@a.dennis4835 1. To mock boring heteronormative relationships with no tail and no end 2. Also to mock boring heteronormative relationships with no tail and no end, tbh 😂 The "heartwarming" moments are more of a mockery of corny and timeworn tropes in romance novels On top of that lots of the comics were made by Tove's brother. In the actual books written by her, their relationship is clearly more satirical/unserious while the interactions with Snufkin always have some kind of impact on his character developement and emotional maturity. I'm not responsible for that podcast in particular: they were specifically taking about the new series and direction of the Moomin franchise, but there are many other essays talking about Moomin and Snufkin relationship in the books and other media
@@mumrikvodnik I've only read Tove's comics. There, I didn't really get a sense that the romance between Moomin and Snorkmaiden was meant to be satirical. Did Tove say somewhere that this was her intention?
@@a.dennis4835 She didn't release any declaration because it wasn't the custom at the time. But yeah, from the book it's more clear their relationshp is meant to be funny/satirical. In the last books Moomin even calls her "friend" instead of "girlfriend" like in the first ones. They go from two kids playing lovers to two young adults questioning their place in the world and in their personal interconnections with others
