I think people are taking this too literally. He is not the most beautiful boy in the world, that is the point, he was objectified and exploited as a child for consumption by adults around him. That is fucked up. That is bad. He's not saying being attractive is what made his life hell, its the adults who found him attractive as a CHILD that made his life hell. They made a label and put it on a child for lust and monetary gain without considering the person he actually was. It is creepy enough to consider alone, they didn't have to curate this a certain way to make you feel anything, its out of respect for his story. People's true thoughts on the internet make me realize every day why predators always get away with it and why victims are continually victimized and blamed over and over again. It's easier to critique Bjorn than the people who made him 'the most beautiful boy'.

I remembered reading how he loved Japan and really enjoyed his time there and expressed that he wanted to visit it again. The film (as well as the novel) Death in Venice is certainly an incredible work of cinema. Thomas Mann’s vision being realized on screen in epic, profound fashion is very much worth watching. That said, I am pretty disturbed by Visconti’s treatment of him and what was put on his shoulders at a young age. I wonder if the gruesomeness of his scene in Midsommar felt cathartic to him, to be able to subvert the image of him as an ideal beautiful form by having his face bashed in brutally in the film. Just me speculating.

This a film that society sorely needs and I hope it spreads worldwide, this could open up a very important global conversation about beauty and what it is that makes a person's worth. I've been trying to dissect this recently in Korean society, this obsession with this unachievable "perfect" beauty and literally idolizing for appearance. It's time a shift needs to be made to scale back and rediscover what it is that makes a human good, what makes one worthy of being idolized, it shouldn't be based in appearance but in character, in empathy, humility, creativty, intuition, curiosity, inquisitiveness, things that once were held in such prowess should be so again

Let me add something onto that already well thought out text, no human should or 'deserves' to be idolised, no matter their achievements. They can be admired and we can be inspired by their bravery but never to the point of idolisation, unless of course you wish for his tragedy to repeat itself eternally, and unless you really don't care about all the good human you one-sidedly decide to idolise. I am a 14 year old girl who recently found this video. It is true, I find him to be very pretty, but I would never go out of my way to fantasize over him in person and see him as an idol withought even knowing him. True beauty is in the soul, how bright it shines and how you walk the path of light. How you express yourself withought harming others and being a role model for goodness.. Withought getting a chance to live a life in which you know yourself can impact you physically and emotionally. Never idolize somone based off of their looks, for that could truly lead you to corruption. That being said, I feel that this boy could have shared much more beautiful things rather than looks... It breaks my heart to know that adults would do such a thing for their own greed. If the man that chose this boy to be in his movie was as beautiful as him, would you idolize him not caring that he impacted this boys life just because he was beautiful? Beauty isn't always in somthing that is appealing to the eye, and even still it should be respected. A fool would pick a beautiful flower to hold it in his house just so that he could see that he holds it- leaving it soon to die and wither. A wise man would let the beautiful flower be, allowing it to live its fullest life. My heart goes to you my friend, you are still yet beautiful within.

that's because it's not only subjective for the most part. a lot of it is objective because it has to do with symmetry, balance, and proportions. there's an actual science behind it. it's just that some people get praised more than usual sometimes. but yes, there's a subjective and objective part to it.
@TheWatev123456789
@TheWatev123456789 2 года назад
@@greyalien826 Aren't those aspects of symmetry and proportion more to do with a face being considered acceptable and average rather than actually beautiful? And is the beauty you're referring to the kind one depicts in paintings and art, or is it the kind when you look at a real person's face?
@greyalien826
@greyalien826 2 года назад
@@TheWatev123456789 possibly to a degree but if you're really arguing that symmetry and proportions don't play a role in attractiveness you're lying to yourself or deceived. i don't really want to get into it because of how obvious it is. art isn't what i was talking about but art is simply an extension of what we consider beautiful and that's usually symmetric, pre much everything we like is.
@TheWatev123456789
@TheWatev123456789 2 года назад
@@greyalien826 I don't think I said that symmetry doesn't play a role in our idea of beauty. But I do think we have different standards for different things. We don't perceive beautiful faces in art the same way we perceive beautiful people in real life or beautiful architecture or beautiful furniture. That's why I asked. I think symmetry tends to be a basic thing we like for something to be acceptable, but I don't think it dominates what we consider really beautiful. And I think we value symmetry more in art than we do in real people. When it comes to people, symmetry seems like something that makes someone acceptable, but if they don't have something particularly interesting or striking about their face, I think we're unlikely to think they're really beautiful. Although again, that's highly subjective. Some people value symmetry a lot more than others. I personally don't find people beautiful just because they're symmetrical. There's usually many more dimensions to it and I think that's influenced by a lot of dynamic variables. In conclusion lol, I think symmetry plays a small role in beautify but a large role in general acceptability.

@@petrichor3647 not the original commenter, but how i interpret their comment is that it's already expected from people in our society that girls will be sexualized from a young age (hence women sharing their experience of being catcalled as young as 8 years old and etc.). as such women, and by extension men, are conditioned to believe that though it's a bad thing to sexualize girls this way, that it is endemic in society and rather than dealing with the real problem (perverse men etc.) people try to teach girls how to "protect themselves", often through contradicting means with other "feminine values". on the flip side, sexualization from a young age (or at any age) is not common for men and boys, so it seems like a shock when it happens. and since now the sex that doesn't experience blatant sexualization much, or at all, sees the story of that happening to someone of their sex, then it "hurts" because it could've been them.
