There was not much of a rivalry until apartheid ended. NZ never won a series in SA (a few draws though to be fair) but SA did win a series in NZ. I think this record stood until 1996. Beating SA in SA before the end of apartheid was always seen as the hardest thing to do in rugby. The mighty All Blacks did win games and draw series but they never could win a series. Not a pop at NZ, more pointing out just how incredible SA was (and is) as a winning rugby nation, not least when it really matters.

Whats the total win record % between All Blacks and SA? 26-26 to SA in SA. 32-10 to NZ in NZ. 4-2 to NZ in neutral locations.

@@eddieingalls534 Upon readmittance to Int rugby.... South Africa were only a couple of wins ahead of the ABs in all head to head matches, so there clearly was a close rivalry. Trying to pretend that (not winning in Sth Africa) counts for anything is rather pointless, every single rugby playing country knows South Africa cheated like absolute muthafuckers and used the most pathetically biased refs to boost their win/loss ration during internal matches. There's no denying that fact and it's made even more stark when we look at South Africa's win/loss ratio (vs ABs) which quickly went into deficit once they couldn't use home refs to cheat for them. If Die Bokke put as much effort into thinking about the game, as they do trying to look tough and playing dirty, they'd be far better off.
