It's not always that you see a plane with backwards wings that is somewhat super manoeuvrable and pretty advanced. The Su-47 Berkut looks like it was made because 2 comrades wanted to see what would happen if you put together backwards wings, canards and thrust vectoring, but it's more that it seems.
During the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union were trying to develop the next generation air superiority fighter jet, and the Soviet Union together with Sukhoi Design Bureau started the project. They implemented a front sweep wing design, that is very manoeuvrable at low speeds but not that stable at supersonic speeds.
Although it was only a prototype, the Su-47 Berkut paved the way to future aircrafts such as the Su-57 and the Su-35.
