I found that the lower you're tuned, the higher the Sweep knob needs to be. Since I'm mostly in "drop B", I keep it pretty low.. but I also use the same speakers as the Satan cab.
@@joeylizotte7537 I have sweep almost all the way up . I play 8 string . What I don’t understand is why the channel volume needs all the way up to be full and sound normal . I wonder if that was a production flaw they notice after manufacturing of the amp
Dude I must THANK YOU ! I have a amp head collection . And must Satan seemed so thin . I was selling it the day I saw you post this video and say you read the manual . Learning the channel volume must be at 3 o click or more changed the whole game for this amp and me . I found it thin. Not now . They must have messed up in production and figured it out and kept the odd feature. But I kept the amp lol
The uniqueness of this amp is that it's a middle ground between solidstate and tube amp. It has a character of a tube amp pushed with modified RAT. Imagine a solidstate amp that can actually plays great lead tone and open chords. That's Satan amp. A bass player will love you too, this amps gives a headroom for bass player to fill in and shine. A lot of bedroom players sold it as it's not that bass heavy as dual rectifier and doesn't give that air pump kick in the chest effect, but this amp sounds so good in a mix, especially for 7 string death metal. Test it with passive pickups too, imo this amps sounds so much better with them.
I’m the opposite of the commenters that say to play clean and stuff. The thing I don’t like about modern metal tones is the lack of gain. But my styles of tones are 90’s solid state overblown guitars so yeah….to each their own. I just would like to hear the amp with gain on full lol
To be fair tho, the lack of gain can be intentional for stuff that’s more technical and require precise playing, but I agree the more gain the more crushing the tone
Yeah it’s interesting how the trend seems to be less gain in extreme metal lately. I think like most things there’s probably a balance, but if I had to guess it will swing the other way in a few years where people start going ham on the gain again
Funny enough, I sold my Satan 120 and never once wished that I still had it. It's a good amp but there are so many others that I love way more. Great video as always!
Yeah! One of the best amp heads in the world, combined with one of the best boost pedals in the world, with one of the best guitars in the world, with a best chugger in the world, exquisite.
Amazing video as usual 🤩🤘🏻 !! I would really love to see you trying for us the Boss IR-200. I just bought one and I am blown away. It has only one high gain amp (Bogner Überschall) but the way it reacts to IRs is just incredible. I have never experienced this with Line6, Ampero, NUX, Neural DSP and others. I have loaded IRs from the Kristian Kohle Rainbows and Chainsaws pack and IRs from STL tones Libra. I am in love with every IR I am playing which is usually not the case. I don't know which magic they used but I feel like I have plenty of usable killer guitar tones with just one head. There is already a demo from Rabea but it would really rock if we would have something from you !!! Keep on Rockin and cheers from Germany !!!
I want a Randall Satan so badly lol. That, the ENGL Savage Mk. ll, and the Mesa Boogie Badlander are the best sounding metal amps to my ear. Also, as an honorable mention, the EVH 5150.
@@4.9turbo13 The head alone costs over $2k on Reverb. That's more than I spent on my entire rig (Joyo Bantamp Zombie II, Hesu 2x12 vertical, Ibanez Tubescreamer, Epiphone 58 Goth Explorer with EMG 81/85 pickups).
@@Megadeth7811 still a nice setup. Ive got the zombie too, and also got the firebrand. The zombie is toooo bassy for my liking. The firebrand is absolute killer, i never play the zombie anymore
I have the thrasher, which is kinda similar, I usually only use a clean boost and just play with the gain frequency filter knobs, but I find that I don't need a boost most of the time
Man love your channel. I just dont hear what everyone is talking about. It sounds really dry with a lot of high frequency. I do know that in the room things sound way better. Keep up the good work man. 🤘
This is a cool channel, you are a great guitarist so that makes it more enjoyable. I've seen a few other channels where the guitarists are playing the same riffs over and over or just chugs, it gets boring.
This is a massive sounding amp, I like it a lot. Unfortunately, I just can't warm to the crispy, brittle (to me) high end of active pickups. To each his own
Had this amp when they were everywhere on guitar center for 1500 before Ola blew up on youtube.... preferred the Archon & Savage 120 over it all day without any boosts. Oh yeah that Randall Satan blew a 30 cent capacitor that took out a 450$ transformer... my mesa certified tech replaced it & eliminatd the remaining capacitors that weren't even needed. There were 4, one of which blew... for some reason they are in the design but serve no real purpose. Amp done great after that, then I bought a savage & sent it packing 2 weeks later 🤙
Couple years ago this amp was at the top of my list. The sounds you got out of it here show why lol Any chance of a dirty tree vs pentademon comparison? Fully agree with the artwork preference, especially in the red w/black.
@@TaylorDanley this is true, though I saw somewhere a claim that the DT was slightly different and more to the commenters preference. Though, I’ll bet someone will claim active pups with Energizer have rolled highs compared to Duracell. This is a wonder of mine too, especially with the unveiling of the Flesh Rot V2 as of late!
@@Steadybeheady 🤣🤣 yeah there’s always going to be those people. Maybe pepers has had revisions since they made it, but I believe the only difference is Pepers has the switch for the tc circuit on the outside, and the pentademons switch is on the inside. I can’t remember for sure though..
use what you've got......I grew up playing on garbage and I thought I had "arrived" when I finally bought a Peavey Bandit. My current rig is the Randall RX120RH (I prefer analog solid state)
No probably not. I think when people are like “that amp doesn’t need a boost” they don’t understand why you are using a boost… I’m not trying to add gain, I’m adding that aggression you get by hitting the front of an amp with a hot signal. It’s more percussive compressed and aggressive sounding. Typically I’ll actually dial the gain in the amp back to compensate for any gain introduced by the pedal.
Yeah the Satan has been on the list for a long time now. This thing makes it almost impossible to sound bad. Also have you watched Ola put a metal zone to that thing. Its actually insane even he was like wth why did this get so much hate
Nice man, consider swapping preamp tubes! I got a 50 watt Diavlo and it's just a monster. I think the tubes in these type of Randall's make a big difference to the gain and tone you get. Mine had some JJs in it when I got it. I swapped out the preamp tubes with some Mullard ax7s and it definitely increases the amount of gain you can dial in with these amps. Enough no boost needed. With the JJs in there it was fizzy and lacked any balls
Hello Taylor , i just want if you make the sound of Dimebag Darrel with this amp ,i know ola englund is a big fan of pantera , and i don't remember if he make a video sound like dimebag with this amp ... thanks for the video .take care.
The (crazy amount of) string buzz audible through this amp reminds me of Sinister's 1995 "Hate" album... which proves, it's not necessarily a bad thing, if used right.
@@barrygomez5968 No, string buzz is... the buzzing of the the strings, which normally occurs only when you hit the strings too hard or if the truss rod is improperly set up, or if the frets need some grinding. Here, it is audible throughout the whole video (and when boosted, at 7:09 time mark onward, it gets quite extreme), which means that too much of the upper mids and treble from the guitar is getting into the overdriving stages of the preamp. In fact, it's so sharp and distinct that I'm sure this region is heavily boosted in the amp, without any significant low-pass filtering in the high gain channel. Some may like the tone, I'm not a fan of it.
@@paulanderson771 Note also the very bright and sparkling picking sound - IMO this also supports my thesis from the previous comment :) (thinner strings would only make things worse). Cheers
I wish they had a combo amp version! I am a strict bedroom player. And I mostly play via headphones. So I could never rationalize, buying REAL amp equipment. I have all these high end guitars, and pedals. But I am just playing through eith Boss Katana, Peavy Vypr, or head phones through my multi effects processor. But I often wonder what its like, having a real amp.
I had a randall satan, and sold it because it was pretty loud.. I bought a Quad cortex, and it sounds pretty damn good.. got a Skervesen guitar and I had a blast.. but suddenly I saw a satan for sale, found some vids of that tone.. and i just realise I shouldn't have sold it. Gonna try and sell the quad cortex and buy a satan again
I have an acoustic lead g20 solid state amp with a Fulltone OCD as a boost I usually have my bass around 2 to 4 and my mids at 2 and treble around 7.5 and gain around 7 because I play Thrash Metal I hate having so much bass because it ruins the tone in my opinion one of these days I'm hoping I get a Dual Rectifier lunchbox amp or something with tons of gain for I don't have to worry about my tone being so flubby.
I dont think you demoed the amp well Where are the clean tones??? But seriously now this amp has to be one of the most underrated amps of all time. Its so fucking nasty and tight.
