Love this! I have learned so much from your videos and sincerely love and appreciate your aesthetic and designs - never boring, visually appealing and impact! I’m a diy-er and garden enthusiast. I have incorporated rocks and boulders into my garden as well as bumped out my beds. It’s a lot of work but I love it and truly enjoy your videos. I don’t ever have to wade through a lot of blah, blah, blah to get to the content. Thank you again.

Impressed with where you took it. As per the comment below, with any style garden, you want to know what maintenance is involved... Minimalism in the outdoors will clearly require proper preparation and maintenance, because it will only stay "clean" if you keep it clean. Design looks great, though, may lean this way to deal with the huge random boulder in our front yard.

The shrub and tree trimming is a lot of extra work and don't expect your gardener to do it. The pine especially means trimming candles keeping bottom 1/3. The gravel is hard to keep clean of stuff. Blower works for pine cones but I finally found boiling water on the cracks in cement and your gravel will remove the stuff trying to grow in the spring. Walk through an actual japanese garden in a park somewhere if you are in a city to get the vibe. Have no idea where we can purchase the moss but I have natural moss because I live in a wet environment and your gardener will hate it. You are going to have to accept lots of maple leaves in the fall. Keep as mulch if you have it in your back yard over the winter and your gardener will hate that too. Your drainage issues are helped along by making gravel natural drainage channels around your shrubs, etc. Stepping stones must be huge to prevent tipping or you have to put them down with cement. My gardeners, etc take them up to use wheel barrels, etc. and just toss them back on the ground which is very annoying (or they don't put them back). I had lighting but gardeners ruined that too and I gave up. I suggest not having gardeners ever if you have something besides a lawn. I combine the natural plants/trees with the japanese look but I live in the Northwest and our weather is the same. Japanese Anemones grow by root runners and fluff like a dandelion so beware (you only find these in the fall when they bloom). My cherry trees also put out root runners which will drive you crazy. Be sure you know everything about what you plant.

Awesome video, it's about time to binge watch your channel. I really want to rip out what's on the front side of the house/porch and totally redo it. It doesn't help we are busy finishing two bathroom remodels right now. Anyway, I've had it with the trumpet Vines, greenbriers, and other diehard southern weeds next to our front porch, not to mention the way too steep porch steps and now elderberry growing up underneath them.. Arg. GA here. . I can't afford to hire it done. Maybe this fall I can least tear it all out to redo in spring ,'24 It needs a French drain too.

Hi Bobby! Nice video! Thanks for sharing the info. It's always appreciated. Hey, when using gravel or pea stone, how do you control weeds sprouting up through it? How do you contain it? And, would it be wise to get that small stone stabilizer stuff I've recently seen someone use to make it solid/ stationary? If so, what is that stuff and how do you go about using it? Prep and all? Now, here is the meat of my true dilemma, Bobby... I have a 1970s, corner lot, split-level home with the garage located on THE END of the house, meaning,, instead of the garage door opening being located on the front side of the home (i.e., the same side as the front door), the garage door opens on the very end of the house with a fairly long driveway. I like the look of it because it makes the home's living space appear to be much more than it is but, I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to landscape it while on a very tight budget (I mean like, the tightest budget EVER) and will have to do the work myself. It is on a slight hill, with most of the yard space being on the outer perimeter surrounding the house and there is no sidewalk. There's house, then yard, then curb, then street, and I'd like to get rid of a lot of the grass and create some beautiful visual interest that is very low maintenance. There are existing evergreen bushes that I'd love to get rid of but is not in the budget, 3 on the left and repeated on the right, just along the front of the house, flanking the front door, then a sidewalk trailing along the left front side, in front of the 3 large evergreen bushes, which then leads to two smaller evergreen shrubs and an anchor tree of some sort at the end near the driveway and garage door. There's a smallish backyard space that has its own set of issues, the biggest being privacy from the neighbors (who are awesome, by the way☺) and their above-ground pool deck located right next to the fence which of course equals 0 privacy. I've seen a split-level landscaping idea on your channel, but not one with the garage door located at the very end of the house. I'd love to send you photos of it and have you feature it on your channel so that people like myself and others who have this style of home, can gather some of your fantastic ideas, tricks, and tips on how to DIY a landscape like mine without breaking the bank! Bobby...I NEED HELP!!! (☺) Signed, Asinglemomwho'spresentlylowonfundsbutwantsaprettyyard, too!

Hey there! Easiest answer, I can give you is to have me create a design for you! Sounds like you’ve got all kinds of really cool ideas, but need some guidance and that is the best way I know how to do it. Regards to the questions about gravel, I would put down weed fabric and then you can use edging stones to contain the gravel. I have not use the material you’re talking about to solidify it but it sounds like a pretty cool idea and product. The normal maintenance comes with landscape fabric and gravel, which would be pulling weeds or spring when they do sprout up. It should be minimal, but it will happen.
