We went to the Northeast Disc Golf Expo. What an event! I offered free form reviews…potentially bad idea. I became very busy. I form reviewed 104 people and used the opportunity to do a very small case study on the backhand. These are our findings.

Hey, went to check out the rain jacket but there's no dimensions or measurements. Does it run small/large, is it true to size? I want to sponsor this video.

I was one of the last people you coached that day. The entire expo, I watched you give everyone in line a solid, engaging form review. By the time me and my friends got to our review, I expected it to be rushed and you to be a bit tired and burnt out, but instead it was the opposite. Each of us got a solid amount of time with you with some great input on our forms. We all 'Thank You!' and hope to see you and Mikey again in the Northeast.

I'd love to watch a series where you coach an absolute beginner from the ground up. I find it easier to translate drills and stuff when I see someone else with similar issues as me getting them corrected in person instead of seeing someone who already knows how to throw try to show what not to do if that makes sense. Love your content keep it up coach.

I was lucky enough to go to the Expo, so THANK YOU JOSH so much for the form review. I implemented it the next day, and it made a world of difference. I'm building on that parallel X-step to correct my early coiling and walking backwards, and have used that change to tweak other necessary aspects of my form. Also, HUGE shoutout to Mikey for being a swell, funny guy with his fantastic footage, editing, and hilarity! AND for heroically letting me use his hotspot!

I feel this way about forehands. My backhand form is terrible and I don't throw too far but I have some level of consistency with a backhand. I don't think I've thrown a single decent forehand shot over 50 feet since I've started disc golf.

I discovered Tilt was lacking by accident before watching this. I assume it is an issue for very many. What made me discover it was another tip, lead by the elbow, which only felt natural with more tilt. It added 10-20 meters to my distance with less effort. Don't think I'm going to hurt my shoulder as much this season if I get this down.

Raising my hand for the 'The Brace' and 'Over Rotation' categories. For the amount of force I can get behind I disc my distance is pretty lackluster (maybe 320' on a good day) and noticed on film my brace leg bends and I rotate over top of my front leg even when trying to keep my weight back. And then for Over Rotation when I do get a good rip on my throw, it almost always is a late release to the right. Now I know what it is I need to work on

The walking backwards thing is taught by Stokely. His basic back hand drill involves walking backwards. Which is why taking his class kind of messed me up and I almost gave up disc golf until I came across your twirlybird drill. A new hope was born. thanks!

@joeblow2426 Год назад
I had the same experience. From what I was told (it wasn’t SS that was teaching the class) the method teaches that way in order to get people the feeling of turning back properly. It felt totally awkward to me. Nevertheless, SS has helped many people play better Disc Golf.

I am a beginner and struggle still with speed also due to a shoulder problem. Can throw a speed 5 as far as a speed 10 on the backhand (295 feet average) Forehand was horrible and now after 2weeks much more far and consistent (up to 390) Now I found when I stand still on backhand I can throw dead straight😅 and with a Diamond or Musket run up does not add a single meter in distance. Seems my run up needs fixes I cannot feel. Will record me on the next tries and follow ur recommendations. Awesome work!

Question so out of 100 people not one had an issue with follow through? Just curious that's was an issue for me I just found helped a lot I just can't believe and none of them had that issue maybe you just didn't bring it up? Or do you think that's not a big issue? Have a great day y'all

Maybe lack of follow through is a symptom of not doing one of these things properly. Example: what he is talking about at around 14:00.
@Qpods

My hypothesis is that follow through is a natural result of good form, rather than something you should focus on actively as you throw
